Volcanic activity has taken place exclusively at the southern part of the island, where Cumbre Vieja volcano, the most active basaltic volcano in the Canaries, has been constructed in the last 123 ky. Cumbre Vieja has suffered seven eruptions in the last 500 years, being the last in 1971 (Teneguía volcano). Since the last eruptive episode, Cumbre Vieja volcano has remained in a relative seismic calm that was interrupted on October 7th and 13rd, 2017, by two remarkable seismic swarms with earthquakes located beneath Cumbre Vieja volcano at depths ranging between 14 and 28 km with a maximum magnitude of 2.7. The frequency of these seismic episodes increased in 2020 with the occurrence of five more seismic swarms As part of the volcano monitoring program of Cumbre Vieja, diffuse degassing of CO2 has been continuously monitored since 2005 at the southernmost part of Cumbre Vieja according to the accumulation chamber method.

Central European Geology, Vol. 53/1, pp. 21–42 (2010) DOI: 10.1556/CEuGeol.53.2010.1.2 Microtectonic measurements and interpretation of the Mesozoic formations in the Villány Hills and Görcsöny–Máriakéménd Ridge, Hungary Attila Petrik Department of Regional Geology Eötvös Lóránd University, Budapest Within the framework of a National Research Fund project, different types of scientific investigations were carried out with the aim of a comprehensive paleogeographic reconstruction of the Tisza structural unit. As part of this project microtectonic measurements in the area of the Villány Hills and Görcsöny–Máriakéménd Ridge were carried out. Several publications have already appeared concerning the structural development of the Mecsek–Villány area (Csontos and Bergerat 1988, 1993; Benkovics 1997; Csontos et al. 2002), but in these the Villány Hills and their surroundings played a secondary role compared to the Mecsek Mountains. The goal of the present study was to establish the limits of the structural phases and determine their relative and absolute ages. An important issue has been to clarify to what degree the suggested events of structural deformation could be integrated into regional geologic processes. The tectonic conditions of the area of interest were studied through description and analysis of structural elements of 12 investigated quarries within it. Calculated stress field data were also analyzed. Seven quarries in the Villány Hills, five in the Görcsöny–Máriakéménd area, the data of over 650 striae, 550 joints, various ductile deformation elements (folds, flexures) as well as stylolites, were recorded. Integrating these structural elements into the regional geologic processes was of significant importance. Introduction and geologic background The Tisza Unit (Fig.

  • Strategic Development of Varietal Vineyards in the Czech Republic
ACTA UNIVERSITATIS AGRICULTURAE ET SILVICULTURAE MENDELIANAE BRUNENSIS Volume LX 43 Number 2, 2012 STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT OF VARIETAL VINEYARDS IN THE CZECH REPUBLIC J. Sedlo, P. Tomšík Received: November 30, 2011 Abstract SEDLO, J., TOMŠÍK, P.: Strategic development of varietal vineyards in the Czech Republic. Acta univ. agric. et silvic. Mendel. Brun., 2012, LX, No. 2, pp. 325–334 The paper describes strategic changes in the structure of grapevine (Vitis vinifera L.) varieties grown in the Czech Republic. In 2004–2005, (i.e. a er the admission of the Czech Republic into the EU) expenditures associated with restructuralisation and transformation of vineyards amounted for CZK 25,423 thous. The authors examine the development taking place in this domain within the last 50 years (i.e. from 1960 to 2010) and pay detailed attention to the period of 1989 to 2010. The paper analyses reasons of these changes and tries to describe the future development expected a er 2010. The current production potential of the Czech Republic are 19,633.45 hectares of vineyards. For the time being, there are in average 1.07 wine growers per hectare of vineyards. As compared with 1960, the acreage of vineyards has doubled up and the number of the most frequent varieties has also increased. Within the period of 1989–1990, four varieties (i.e. Müller Thurgau, Green Veltliner, Italian Riesling and Sankt Laurent) occupied more than 60 % of the total vineyards area in the Czech Republic, whereas at present there are altogether 8 varieties (Müller Thurgau, Green Veltliner, Italian Riesling, Rhein Riesling, Sauvignon, Sankt Laurent, Blaufrankish, and Zweigeltrebe) at the nearly the same acreage.
