OPENING DOORS TO HIGHER EDUCATION As an open-access institution, Dutchess Community College welcomes anyone who has a high school diploma and a desire to pursue postsecondary education. Local philanthropy such as the Charles and Mabel Conklin Scholarship for Academic Excellence offers two-years’ free tuition and brings the top ten percent of the most academically talented high school graduates from Dutchess County to the College.

Dutchess was the first college in the state to offer a comprehensive jointly registered transfer program in teacher education (with SUNY New Paltz) covering birth through twelfth grade.

Edington recently announced that “registered nurses who have graduated with an associate degree from DCC’s Nursing Program – are able to take courses toward a BSN – bachelor’s degree in Nursing - through a partnership with our SUNY partner, Alfred State College, affordably and conveniently on the DCC campus and on line.” The College already has 140 students who have received NY State Excelsior Scholarships, enabling them to study tuition-free. assar President Elizabeth Howe Bradley, arrived at Vassar with a Vbackground that would certainly make Matthew Vassar, the college’s founder, proud. He saw the mission of Vassar College, opening in 1861, the dawn of the Civil War, as providing ‘the most perfect education of body, mind and heart.’ At the time, this had only been available to men and Matthew Vassar took the bold step of offering it to women as a single sex institution for more than one hundred years, transitioning to co-ed in 1969. The college has a diverse student body (2,450 students from every region of the U.S. and 55 countries), a distinguished faculty (300 members), and a low student-faculty ratio (8:1).

Today, President Bradley sees Vassar having a role in promoting the liberal arts nationally, using it as tool for interdisciplinary studies and looking outside Vassar to contribute to society. She says, “Matthew Vassar thought boldness was tremendously important, and a Vassar education has empowered alumnae/i to be movers and shakers in many fields, from social services to foreign affairs, as well as the arts.”

The ones who really listen. Ear to the ground, full attention, no distractions, tuned in... listeners. They understand what’s really important. At Nuvance Health, listening is what makes us different. We go beyond hearing what’s the matter, and actually hear what matters to you. We’re helping you feel heard the first time. All the time. Every time. Because when you speak, and we listen… the promise of understanding lives in all of us.
