My Almost Famous Family Released: March 2010 Senior Development Producer TV, Interactive, and Multiplatform …some selected work Legend of Dick and Dom: Questalot I pitched, developed and produced this totally gross, ludicrously disgusting, and outright hilarious webcam game experience to promote and deepen audience relationship with the Legend of Dick and Dom brand on CBBC. Built by: Fish in a Bottle Released: May 2011 Legend of Dick and Dom: Questalot Released: June 2011 An amusing, very silly, interactive webcam game experience that allows kids to form a more personal relationship with the brand and its characters by playing a series of unusual quick-play games – based on the kinds of things the Princes get up to on the TV show. In each of the games the user can use their webcam to help Dick and Dom win a particular ingredient for their potion. Each game was devised to challenge a user’s range of motor skills. Loads of different funny video clips of Dick and Dom are triggered depending on a user’s success level during game-play. http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/games/questalot-game ple: Game Exam ’ Puss Pokin ed any puss fill Pop as m you k’s face as boils on Dic 3 can. The Cartoon Works I developed and produced this very silly, immersive flash game experience to house all our CBBC cartoons under one roof, promote the key brands, and allow our audience to play games and directly interact with their favourite characters on CBBC. This innovative online space was devised specifically to power our brands and empower our users. Built by: TBC Scheduled Release: January 2012 CBBC Art Studio Scheduled Release: January 2012 Identifying a Channel Need With the demise of ‘SMART’, and ‘Adventure Rock – Creative Studios’, there was a hole appearing in CBBC’s public service output: to encourage creativity and self- expression. With the audience turning to the “Like” pages on Facebook as a place to produce, share, and discuss UGC for major brands, it was clear there was a crucial need for a place to facilitate great UGC across CBBC. Art Studio gives brand owners with a way to draw on our audience’s creativity through calls to action. Gives users their own space to collate and display all their artwork from across CBBC. Enables users to share and collaborate with friends. Enables CBBC to evolve the message boards into a vibrant social creative hub 15 CBBC Art Studio Example Games/Apps Alien Maker Use the Art Studio to respond to the CTA for Sarah Jane, e.g ‘Create an Alien’, ‘Redesign the Tardis’. Notes 2 A Quotation of Normality – The Family Myth 1 . A less obvious antecedent that The Simpsons benefitted directly and indirectly from was Hanna-Barbera’s Wait ‘til Your Father Gets Home (NBC 1972–1974). This was an attempt to exploit the ratings successes of Norman Lear’s stable of grittier 1970s’ US sitcoms, but as a stepping stone it is entirely noteworthy through its prioritisation of the suburban narrative over the fantastical (i.e., shows like The Flintstones , The Jetsons et al.). 2 . Nelvana was renowned for producing well-regarded production-line chil- dren’s animation throughout the 1980s. It was extended from the 1960s studio Laff-Arts, and formed in 1971 by Michael Hirsh, Patrick Loubert and Clive Smith. Its success was built on a portfolio of highly commercial TV animated work that did not conform to a ‘house-style’ and allowed for more creative practice in television and feature projects (Mazurkewich, 1999, pp. 104–115). 3 . The NBC US version recast Feeble with the voice of The Simpsons regular Hank Azaria, and the emphasis shifted to an American living in England. The show was pulled off the schedules after only three episodes for failing to connect with audiences (Bermam, 1999, para 3). 4 . Aardman’s Lab Animals (2002), planned originally for ITV, sought to make an ironic juxtaposition between the mistreatment of animals as material for scientific experiment and the direct commentary from the animals them- selves, which defines the show. It was quickly assessed as unsuitable for the family slot that it was intended for (Lane, 2003 p.

  • October 2008 Comedy Channel Highlights
www.comedychannel.com.au OCTOBER 2008 HIGHLIGHTS THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW WORLD PREMIERE Thursday October 2 @ 8.30pm Continues Thursdays at 8.30pm Merrick and Rosso are back on the box where they belong, with the keys to the Foxtel car - and enough fuel in the tank to really cause some chaos! They’ll finally return to their broadcasting birth place at The Comedy Channel with THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW. So what’s on the cards for the new show? Each week the boys will front up before a live studio audience with their unique take on anything and everything. From what’s happening in the world of news to the big questions: Can you deep fry a watermelon? On THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW, celebrities will make regular guest appearances from in-studio interviews to recorded comedy pieces to show you a side of them never before seen. Into the mix will go plenty of studio audience interaction and more mayhem and stupidity than is legal in three states. For perhaps the first time, Merrick Watts and Tim Ross will truly focus the energy and excitement of their legendary sell-out live comedy shows and bring that force to the electric television. It’s hotter than Gordon Ramsay’s kitchen, is sure to top Brendan Nelson’s approval ratings and it’s ‘wronger’ than an Austrian family get-together. THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW will allow nobody to be immune from their parodies and sketch comedy. Finally, as Merrick and Rosso are keen to point out, “Put simply, the show is Morcambe and Wise meets The Star Wars Christmas Special at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting during The French Renaissance… on a weeknight.” Buckle up Australia, for a riotous half hour of THE MERRICK & ROSSO SHOW.
