Abstract Conceiving the process of biogenesis as the evolutionary development of highly dynamic and integrated protocell populations provides the most appropriate framework to address the difficult problem of how prebiotic chemistry bridged the gap to full-fledged living organisms on the early Earth. In this contribution we briefly discuss the implications of taking dynamic, functionally inte- grated protocell systems (rather than complex reaction networks in bulk solution, sets of artificially evolvable replicating molecules, or even these same replicating molecules encapsulated in passive compartments) -
An Introduction to the Viruses
Chapter 1 An introduction to the viruses Viruses are obligate intracellular parasites of man, other animals, plants and bacteria. They can only multiply within cells, and thus differ from bacteria, which can multiply in tissues in an extracellular position, and also in artificial culture media in the laboratory. It has always been recognized that viruses are distinct from the bacteria, but originally other groups of infective agents were included among the viruses which are now known to be organisms of a different and more complex nature. These included the Chlamydiae, organisms causing diseases such as lymphogranuloma venereum and trachoma, and the Rickettsiae, the causative agents of typhus and related infections. The specific treatment of infections caused by these two groups of agents will not be considered in this work, which is restricted to the chemotherapy of infections caused by the true viruses. The Chlamydiae and Rickettsiae are complete organisms, with cell walls, which possess both types of nucleic acid, enzyme systems which function within their cytoplasm, and a number of cell organelles. The viruses, on the other hand, possess either DNA or RNA as their genetic material, but not both. In some cases they contain enzymes, but these exert their functions within the host cell after the virus particle has under gone a process of dissolution during the early stage of infection. Except in the case of the arenaviruses, a group which contains the virus of Lassa fever, the virus particles do not contain organelles. A virus is thus much more rudimentary in structure, and relies upon the host cell to provide the systems for synthesizing its components which it does not possess itself. -

Socionics: the effective theory of the mental structure and the interpersonal relations forecasting Bukalov A.V., Karpenko O.B., Chykyrysova G.V. E-mail: [email protected] ) Socionics, the theory of informational metabolism, has developed a whole spec- trum of new intellectual technologies used in personnel management, pedagogic, investigation of interpersonal relations in family, psychotherapy, for formation of effective workgroups and development of artificial intelligence systems. It is de- scribed the basic categories of modeling of the informational structure of psyche and the main principles of modeling of interaction between the subjects as the dif- ferent types of the informational structures. 1. Introduction The scientific basis of Socionics was created in early 70-th of the XX century by Aušra Augustinavičiūtė (Lithuania). Socionics is a further development of Jung ty- pology transformed into a science of 16 psychological types of personality. A. Augustinavičiūtė used A. Kępiński concept of information processes in creating her own informational model of human mind - the “A” (Aušra's 8-element) mod- els. This allowed describing various aspects of personality thinking and behavior by representing personality as a type of informational metabolism (TIM) with indi- cation of its strong and weak sides. This implied the possibility of describing and forecasting not only behavior of IM types, but relationships between such types as well. These relationships are condi- tioned by informational exchange between identical IM functions located at differ- ent positions in the IM model of types. Such description is an advance in the sphere of sciences about human being. -

Socionics was developed in the former Soviet Union and may be regarded as analogous to the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator typology of personality. The main goal of this paper is to present socionics to the English-speaking community, in order to better take advantage of its explanatory potential in the fields of interpersonal communication and psychological disorders. Reviewed topics include aspects of Jungian analytical psychology and Kezpin´ski’s information metabolism theory, upon which Augustinavicˇiut e_ based her model. The virus has exposed, fed off and increased existing inequalities of wealth, gender and race. Over two million people have died, and hundreds of millions of people are being forced into poverty while many of the richest – individuals and corporations – are thriving. Billionaire fortunes returned to their pre-pandemic highs in just nine months, while recovery for the world’s poorest people could take over a decade. The crisis has exposed our collective frailty and the inability of our deeply unequal economy to work for all. Yet it has also shown us the vital importance of government action to protect our health and livelihoods. Transformative policies that seemed unthinkable before the crisis have suddenly been shown to be possible. There can be no return to where we were before.
