10 East Allen Street, Suite 202, Winooski, VT 05404 Phone: (802) 655-4800 Toll Free: 1-800-639-7811 vermontpbs.org For Immediate Release Friday, May 1, 2020 Contact: [email protected] | 802-338-2556 Vermont PBS Announces President and CEO Holly Groschner To Retire Groschner Led Station’s Turnaround WINOOSKI, Vt. - Vermont PBS has announced the retirement of Holly Groschner, President & CEO, at the end of current fiscal year, June 30, 2020. Ms. Groschner has served the public media station since February 14, 2015. During her tenure, the station recognized growth in audience, membership, local programming, and community financial support, recapturing its status as a thriving community resource for Vermont. The Vermont PBS Board of Directors has formed a search committee for a national search process to identify Groschner’s successor. Steve Ferreira, appointed by Groschner last September as the station’s Chief Operating Officer, will assume the role of interim CEO following a full board vote at the next meeting of the Board of Directors. “We thank Holly for her dedicated service, leadership and vision,” said Marguerite Dibble, Vermont PBS Board Chair. “When Holly joined Vermont PBS, she agreed to stay for three years. Five years later and now stronger than ever, the Board and Staff of Vermont PBS look toward our next chapter of service to Vermonters.” Highlights of Groschner’s leadership include: • Spearheaded the station’s 2019 relocation to new headquarters in Winooski’s Town Center, including a financial investment in technical upgrades for improved broadcast reliability and expanded digital production technology. • Shifted a 3-5% annual decline in membership to growth of 4-5%, with an increase in average annual donations of 3.7% over the same period. -

Nicole Junas Ravlin chairs the new board of directors, and Marguerite Dibble serves as vice chair. “This past year has really demonstrated how much the community relies on us to share the arts, news, education, culture, local storytelling, and create connections,” said Junas Ravlin. “It’s never been more important to strengthen public media.” “Service, inclusion, and engagement will be at the heart of everything we do,” added Dibble. A new leadership team, composed of executives from both of the legacy organizations, has been named, and the staff has been reorganized into teams with a focus on service, inclusion and community engagement. No staff positions were eliminated as a result of this merger. Alaska Public Media is one of 14 public media stations nationwide to receive a Community Collaboratives for Early Learning and Media (CC-ELM) grant this year, joining 16 other public media stations doing similar work through a community engagement model to help the youngest learners in their communities. This effort is part of a five-year Ready To learn grant awarded to CPB and PBS through the U.S. Department of Education’s Ready To Learn Initiative to advance new tools supporting personalized and adaptive content for children and parents, establish a network of community collaboratives, and conduct efficacy research on the educational resources provided. "Since arriving at Alaska Public Media in the spring of 2016, our team has committed to building strong collaborative relationships with early childhood education partners in Anchorage,” said Ed Ulman, CEO/General Manager of AKPM. “We look forward to working with leading partners including Best Beginnings, Anchorage Libraries, Boys and Girls Clubs, Cook Inlet Housing Authority, and the Anchorage Museum to engage our youngest learners with high-quality PBS KIDS educational content."
