It seeks to better understand the implementation of Pentecostal- Charismatic (PC) Christianity in 21st century urban Alaska. While social activism and outreach form a significant portion of the success of Pentecostalism in Alaska (as anywhere else), my research shows that it is also substantially due to the appeal of ritual to newcomers. In particular, I suggest that there are forms of spiritual possession and spirit embodiment that need to be examined in relation to the attractiveness of Pentecostalism in Fairbanks. There is a gap in academic literature pertaining to Pentecostal rituals. Recent anthropological studies have focused primarily on notions of conversion, rupture, empowerment, and modernization. My research complements these studies by shedding an unprecedented light on Pentecostal processes of ritualization. Participant observation and interviews were used to examine ritual activity and the nature of spiritual gifts within PC Christianity in Fairbanks. vi Table of Contents Page Signature Page     Preorcjah Vol. 2(1), 2017 www.ezenwaohaetorc.org Assemblies of God Mission in Igboland, 1970-2016: A thematic x-ray Patrick Enoch Nmah Abstract Assembles of God church provides a particularly intriguing context for a study of the church in Igboland. The purpose of the study is to find out why the Assemblies of God Mission (AGM) is no longer waxing strong vis-à-vis during its emergence. Findings showed that there are a lot of bickering and bigotries among the pastors and the lay. The crave for materialism is seriously affecting the spiritual life of the church. Methods of approach are historical and descriptive coupled with primary and secondary sources. Keywords: Mission, evangelism, charity, Igboland, and development and expansion Introduction The missionaries of the Europeans had settled down for the task of “civilizing” the indigenes, a process of westernization usually mistaken for Christianity, abandoning the pneumatic values of the Kerygma. It was this negligence that agitated the minds of Harris, Braide and American Evangelicals to launch aggressive evangelism in the early twentieth century. The legend Augustus Ehurien Nwogu of Old Umuahia in Abia State was a product of this early 20th century church development. The crisis thus generated in him led to his reconversion from Niger Delta Pastorate (NDP) to the faith Tabernacle Congregation (FTC). He Nmah Preorcjah Vol. 2(1), 2017 later separated from the FTC to form the church of Jesus Christ (CJC), which shortly became Assemblies of God Mission in Igboland (Ndubuisi, 1997). The main objectives of this study is to discuss the effects of bickery, materialism, lukewarm attitude towards mission and evangelism, and how they have created unnecessary rivalry, hatred, envy, spiritual barrenness and administrative bankruptcy.

Price n the eve of Armistice Day in November 1926, the Defenders of the Christian Faith hosted a series of lectures in Wichita, Kansas, about the dangers of modernism, evolution, and textbooks that they asserted replaced sound religion with “the philosophy of evolutionary doctrine.” Founded just a year earlier, the Defenders hoped to use a series of daytime lectures at South Lawrence Baptist Church, followed by evening sessions at the city’s Arcadia Theater, to expose a dangerous secularism that was undermining American society. Local papers Ofound that the daytime events seemed to involve internecine conflicts among clergy, as when Rev. Morton Miller, chairman of the convention, railed against modernist bishops in his Methodist Episcopal denomination.1 The evening events, however, were dominated by the event’s star speaker, Minnesota Baptist preacher W. B. Riley. Wichita had seen its share of traveling evangelists, most notably Billy Sunday, who had conducted a six-week revival event in 1911.
