AVVERTENZA 11 lavoro, nato come inventario di un « fondo » dell Archivio di Stato geno vese a fini essenzialmente archivistici e non storici, risente di questa sua origine nella rigorosa limitazione dei regesti a quel fondo, pur ricostruito sulla base dell’ordine cronologico dei documenti, e nella sobrietà discreta dei singoli re gesti. Del pari la bibliografia non vuol essere un repertorio critico e non intende richiamare tutte le edizioni comunque eseguite dei diversi atti, ma limita i riferim enti alle edizioni principali, apparse nelle raccolte sistematiche più comu nem ente accessibili, ed a quanto fu pubblicalo del codice diplomatico dell Im periale. Si è ritenuta peraltro utile anche una serie di riferimenti agli Annali di Caffaro e Continuatori per i passi in cui si ricordano i fatti significati dai docum enti del fondo. Il lettore d’altra parte facilmente rileverà che tale appa rato si riferisce con larga prevalenza ai secoli del Medio Evo; il che rappresenta un fatto pieno di significato, anche se la serie dei richiami, come si è detto, e largamente incompleta. Gli indici, alla cui redazione ha direttamente collaborato, col dott. Liscian- drelli ed il dott. Costamagna, anche il Segretario prof. T.O. De Negri, che ha cu rato l’edizione, si riferiscono strettamente ai nomi riportati nei Regesti, ove spesso, per ovvie ragioni, i nominativi personali sono suppliti da richiami anoni mi o da titoli generici (re, pontefice1, imperatore...). Essi hanno quindi un valore indicativo di massima e non possono esaurire la serie dei riferimenti. The Corsini Collection: a Window on Renaissance Florence Exhibition Labels
The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence Exhibition labels © Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, 2017 Reproduction in part or in whole of this document is prohibited without express written permission. The Corsini Family Members of the Corsini family settled in Florence in the middle of the 13th century, attaining leading roles in government, the law, trade and banking. During that time, the Republic of Florence became one of the mercantile and financial centres in the Western world. Along with other leading families, the Corsini name was interwoven with that of the powerful Medici until 1737, when the Medici line came to an end. The Corsini family can also claim illustrious members within the Catholic Church, including their family saint, Andrea Corsini, three cardinals and Pope Clement XII. Filippo Corsini was created Count Palatine in 1371 by the Emperor Charles IV, and in 1348 Tommaso Corsini encouraged the foundation of the Studio Fiorentino, the University of Florence. The family’s history is interwoven with that of the city and its citizens‚ politically, culturally and intellectually. Between 1650 and 1728, the family constructed what is the principal baroque edifice in the city, and their remarkable collection of Renaissance and Baroque art remains on display in Palazzo Corsini today. The Corsini Collection: A Window on Renaissance Florence paints a rare glimpse of family life and loyalties, their devotion to the city, and their place within Florence’s magnificent cultural heritage. Federico da Montefeltro and His Library June 8 through September 30, 2007 Exhibition Labels 1. Double Portrait of Federico da Montefeltro and His Son Guidobaldo Urbino, ca. 1475, attributed to Justus of Ghent or Pedro Berruguete Urbino, Galleria Nazionale delle Marche (Cat. 1) This is the official portrait of the Duke of Urbino, painted after 1474, when Federico da Montefeltro received the Order of the Garter from the king of England and the Ermine from the king of Naples. Federico is wearing both decorations and reading Gregory the Great’s Commentary on the Book of Job (Cat. 3). Job is the supreme example of man enduring trials of faith, fede in Italian—a pun on Federico as one who is “rich in faith.” Both Justus of Ghent and Pedro Berruguete were active at Urbino in the 1470s. 2. Gospels, in Latin Urbino, ca. 1480, written by Matteo Contugi da Volterra and illuminated by Guglielmo Giraldi and workshop (Alessandro Leoni?), Franco dei Russi, and Pietro Guindaleri Vatican City, Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, Urb. lat. 10, fols. 174v–75r (Cat. 2) This luxury Gospels was illuminated by artists from Ferrara. The elaborate miniature, enclosed within an architectural framework, depicts St. John writing on the island of Patmos, with his attribute, the eagle. Within the base, the chiseled initial I (In principio), decorated with gold vines, leads to the first words of John’s Gospel. Below the base are two reversed cornucopias, at whose center figure the arms of Federico—the crowned eagle flanked by the initials F D (Federico Duke). The volume was worthy of being exhibited during the Second Vatican Council in 1962. -

CUOZZO, MPP Thesis Director: Archer St. Clair Harvey, Ph.D. A great many individuals and families of historical prominence contributed to the development of the Italian and larger European Renaissance through acts of patronage. Among them was the Florentine House of Medici. The Medici were an Italian noble house that served first as the de facto rulers of Florence, and then as Grand Dukes of Tuscany, from the mid-15th century to the mid-18th century. This thesis evaluates the contributions of eight consequential members of the Florentine Medici family, Cosimo di Giovanni, Lorenzo di Giovanni, Giovanni di Lorenzo, Cosimo I, Cosimo II, Cosimo III, Gian Gastone, and Anna Maria Luisa, and their acts of artistic, literary, scientific, and architectural patronage that contributed to the cultural heritage of Florence, Italy. This thesis also explores relevant social, political, economic, and geopolitical conditions over the course of the Medici dynasty, and incorporates primary research derived from a conversation and an interview with specialists in Florence in order to present a more contextual analysis. -

Or, le concept d’Etat employé pour désigner un souverain distinct de la personne du Prince remonte au XIIIe siècle en relation avec la doctrine des corporations qui faisait de l’office une persona ficta. Le fait que dignitas non moritur permettait de garantir l’ordre de succession fondé sur un patrimoine commun transmissible dépassant le caractère mortel de la personne du roi2. Mais royaumes et empires n’aboutirent pas forcément à l’Etat. Inversement le roi put fort bien en invoquant sa « certaine science » se passer de tout conseil y compris parlementaire pour légiférer3. Il y a ainsi dans l’histoire de l’Europe occidentale méditerranéenne un développement précoce de l’Etat et à la fois une difficulté insondable à atteindre sa plénitude dans le lent processus qui résulte de la différenciation du politique vis- à-vis de l’économie, de la société et de la culture4. -
