Amparanoia stands since 2007 for an authentic southern mestizo sound with the caractheristic and unrivaled voice and appearence of Amparo Sánchez. There is of course the representative warm voice of Amparo Sánchez, that goes so well together with her typical musical style that deals of course with old style cumbia, some carribean reggae tunes, rumba or boogaloo, but even so with a more electronic approach, desert rock, Balkan-influenced songs or pure pop music. Dal:um: Similar & Different GBCD 112 / 4030433611227 / label: tak:til / format: CD / South Korea – Fusion Dal:um is a musical duo based in Seoul, who challenges the sonic possibilities of Korea’s most well-known traditional string instruments: the gayageum and geomungo. Ethereal and otherworldly, Dal:um create a compelling soundworld that treasures subtle dynamics and the space between the notes. Two musicians. Two weighty acoustic stringed instruments. A dialogue between traditional and experimental practices. A melding of both new possibilities and deeply travelled resonances. Dal:um’s beautifully balanced and expansive music is defined by inspired dialogue and creative paradox. Listen. Kudsi Erguner & Lamekan Ensemble: Fragments Des Ceremonies Soufies – L’Invitation a L’Extase 2GN 13 / 0745125354019 / label: Seyir Muzik / format: CD / Turkey – Sufi Lamekan Ensemble, directed by Belgian musicologist and oud player Tristan Driessens, has been a breath of fresh air for the music of the Ottoman Empire since more than a decade now. After releasing three albums and performing of major venues in Europe, the Middle-East and Central Asia, the sextet is back with a brand new album. The ensemble invited ney master, director and Unesco artist Kudsi Erguner to create a project focusing on the renewal of the ceremonial music of the whirling dervishes. The result is an album celebrating Sufi music and poetry in their purest form, rearranged in a new way in order to offer a unique listening experience to Sufi music lovers. Listen. Massimo Giuntini & Silvio Trotta: Libero Arbitrio RMR 254 / 8032584612548 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / Italy – Folk Massimo Giuntini, a musician from Arezzo with a Celtic heart, and Silvio Trotta, a musician from Molise, from Capracotta, immersed in the folk sounds of the south, combine their passion for music in an original search for continuity between the multiple folds of the multifaceted world of folk. The vibrant sounds of Irish uilleann pipes combine with strings steeped in Italian tradition to structure a repertoire that testifies to the possibility of overcoming boundaries in a natural encounter between cultures. The CD also contains many tributes. The song "Nel giardino dei salici" was composed by Angelo Branduardi on a lyric by Irish poet William Butler Yeats. "Il cammino" was composed by Corrado Sfogli (Nuova Compagnia di Canto Popolare) before his death in March 2020. Breton percussionist David Hopi Hopkins is also a guest on the album. Listen. Miranda Cortes: Il Coraggio RMR 251 / 8032584612517 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / France – Accordeon This is a solo work, from A to Z. - The protagonist could only be the accordion, but accompanied by the presence of friends and important guests: Michele and Marco Pucci on electric guitar, Emmanuele Praticelli on cello, Michele Sguotti on violin and viola. Thanks to Simone Faliva for his participation with the evocative power of the electronic dimension. Recorded between the end of August 2020 and March of this year, 'Il Coraggio' is a bold, multiform work. It contains all the passion, commitment and experience of Miranda Cortes: a career full of encounters and collaborations; research in ethnomusicology. Listen to a track. Ivan Francesco Ballerini: Ancora Libero RMR 481 / 8032584614818 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / Italy – Popular The songwriting is light, committed to everyday words and at the same time light-hearted with a romantic appeal with which to face everyday life. This sound of great popular music is inevitably the child of classic listening, decidedly against the digital transgressions of today's many indie scenes. The narrative shifts to everyday life, personal and social examination, between the world that lives around us, measures us, conditions us and what are still our freedoms. Love becomes the hinge and reference point for much of the disc's lyrical inspiration. Listen to a track. Xango Music Distribution Release #13 – 2021 Pagina | 1 Tacabanda: E Continuo A Cercare... RMR 250 / 8032584612500 / label: RadiciMusic Records / format: CD / Italy – Folk-Rock After an absence of more than 15 years they are back with a new work, written and recorded between 2018 and 2019, already released as singles and videos between 2019 and 2020. The need was to crystallise this historical moment with a new production with an evocative title 'E Continuo A Cercare...'. As in the previous records, captivated by new and old sounds, they explore different musical territories until they lose themselves in a vortex of sounds, colours and emotions that cross and mingle, maintaining the irony and curiosity of the beginning. It is a quest that returns to the music of their home territory, Venice. Listen. Boikot: Balkan Acoustic MR 21669 / 8436543123791 / label: Maldito Records / format: CD / Spain – Mestizo If the world has been forced to live an impasse, caused by a virus, Boikot have wanted to act accordingly in this time of home isolation and obligatory reflection. These are not new songs that they present to us on 'Balkan Acoustic', it is not just another album in Boikot's career, it is the result of having lived through exceptional times, circumstances that we would never have thought of living through beyond the screen of a cinema. The new album is the testimony of these strange times, Boikot have wanted to reflect and for this they have chosen to record recreations of indispensable titles from their repertoire with a musical treatment that has nothing to do with their usual punk rock and electrified line. Juanito Makande: La Raiz Del Viento (LP release July 30th, 2021) SATKCD 329 / 8435307612175 / label: Satelite K / format: CD / Spain – Flamenco-Fusion SATKLP 329 / 8435307612182 / label: Satelite K / format: LP / Spain – Flamenco-Fusion 'La Raiz Del Viento' is an acoustic album by Juanito Makande, recorded live and without audince, with which he revisits his most intimate side just as he celebrates his twentieth birthday. A very special album that he has recorded with the masters Josep Pou on piano and Toni Cuenca on double bass, live, with three string instruments, searching for the natural pulse of the songs. His fans had been asking him for an album like this for a long time, with acoustic songs, stripped down, without so many instruments. Recorded in the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana. It is a miracle what these fragile discs have survived: wars with Russia and China, the fire bombings (and worse) of World War II, modernization, the onslaught of Western media. They document, through a dreamlike haze of surface noise, a Japan that had just barely begun to open its doors to the rest of the world. Including gagaku, shakuhachi, shamisen, storytelling, folksong and more. these recordings are a unique glimpse into an ancient culture and an important document of the beginnings of the recording industry. Simple and complex. Alien and familiar. Various: Mien (Yao) – Canon Singing In China, Vietnam And Laos SUBFLP 117 / 0843563134108 / label: Sublime Frequencies / format: LP / Various – Traditional Raw, ethereal, and cosmic -- for fans of Bulgarian choir and Javanese Court Gamelan and Sundanese styles of vocal ascension. Although their name comes from a pejorative Chinese expression that means "dog" or "savage" -- stemming from a legend that they were founded by a dog who saved the life of the daughter of a Chinese emperor and thus was rewarded with her hand in marriage -- the largest branch of the YAO minority call themselves MIEN, which means simply "people". They number four million and are spread over the southern Chinese provinces of Guizhou, Guangxi, Yunnan, and also migrated to Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand over the last centuries. Part of the Miao-Yao (Hmong Mien) group of the Sino-Tibetan ethnolinguistic family, they have many subgroups, defined according to colors of their traditional clothes.
