University of Hawaii at Manoa College Opportunities Program The College Opportunities Program (COP) provides an alternative College Visits pathway for students who want to attend the University of Hawaii at Manoa, but lack the minimum requirements for admission. The Dominican University of COP is a free, intensive 6-week summer academic and residential California program designed to prepare students to be successful as Mon. 10/28 8:30 am (pd. 1) freshmen at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. Students who participate in COP and successfully complete the program The Chinese University of requirements are admitted to UH Manoa in the fall semester and Hong Kong advance to COP’s First-Year Academic Program. To apply visit Mon. 10/28 9:50 am (pd. 2) www.hawaii.edu/cop and complete the application by December 12, 2019. New York Film Academy, Los Angeles Mon. 10/28 11:00 am (pd. 3) Other Important Announcements University of Michigan, AP Exam Fees Ann Arbor AP Exam Fees are currently being collected in the College & Mon. 10/28 1:45 pm (pd. 7) Career Center. The deadline to pay for all AP Exams is Friday, November 1, 2019. Students are required to take the AP Exam for Concordia University, Irvine each AP course they are enrolled in and will need to pay for each Tues. 10/29 8:30 am (pd. 1) AP Exam they will be taking. The exam fee is $94 per exam and the cost for students who qualify for free or reduced lunch is $12 Occidental College per exam. Cash or checks made payable to Moanalua High Tues. 10/29 11:00 am (pd. 4) School are accepted. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch must submit a copy California Polytechnic State of their Free or Reduced Lunch Eligibility Letter by November 1, University, San Luis Obispo 2019 in order to be eligible for the reduced AP Exam fee of $12 per Tues. 10/29 1:10 pm (pd. 5) exam. If the letter is not submitted by November 1st, the student will not be eligible for the reduced AP Exam fee. Claremont McKenna College Wed. 10/30 8:30 am (pd. 3) College Board Fee Waivers Students, be sure to accept your College Board Fee Waiver Western Kentucky University Benefits! If you qualify for a fee waiver, you will need to log in to Wed. 10/30 9:50 am (pd. 4) your College Board account to accept your benefits in order to receive two free SAT registrations, six free SAT Subject Test University of Miami registrations, waived application fees at select colleges, unlimited Wed. 10/30 11:00 am (pd. 5) score sends, and much more! Students who qualify for free or reduced lunch must submit a copy Wabash College of their Free or Reduced Lunch Eligibility Letter by November 1, Wed. 10/30 1:45 pm (pd. 7) 2019 in order to be eligible for the reduced AP Exam fee of $12 per exam. College Tues. 11/19 9:50 am (pd. 2) Intro to College Financial Aid The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling will be Kapiolani Community hosting an Intro to College Financial Aid event on Tuesday, College th November 5 from 6:00 pm to 7:15 pm at Pearl City Library. “Intro Wed. 11/20 8:30 am (pd. 3) to College Financial Aid: Understanding the basics to make informed financial decisions about college” is a community Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard presentation to inform students and their families about financial Apprentice Program aid for college. This free presentation is suitable for high school Thurs. 11/21 12:45 pm (pd. 3) students and their families. Younger audiences are also welcome at attend. Leeward Community College Fri. 11/22 10:15 am (pd. 5) Hawaii Pacific University Preview Day Hawaii Pacific University is hosting a Preview Day for prospective th students on Saturday, November 9 from 8:00am to 1:00pm at Aloha Tower Marketplace. Students are invited to spend the morning and early afternoon with HPU faculty, staff, and current students to learn more about what HPU has to offer. Join them and experience what it’s like to be an HPU shark. The event will begin with breakfast at Pier 9 by Sam Choy, their new dining experience for students and the community. There will be numerous academic presentations to participate in, a student resource fair, and tours of the downtown campus. Silversword Preview Day Chaminade University of Honolulu is hosting a Preview Day for interested students and their families. Learn about small class sizes, generous scholarships, hands-on learning, research experiences, study-away opportunities and so much more. The event will be held on Saturday, November 16, 2019 at 10:00 am. Register online at www.chaminade.edu/previewday.

Hawaii Future Physician’s Symposium Junior and Senior high school students are invited to attend the 15th Annual Hawaii Future Physician’s Symposium. This event features a discussion by several of Hawaii’s foremost physicians who will discuss their particular medical specialty. In addition, a panel of University of Hawaii Medical Students will discuss med school life and insights into their journey through medical school. The event is hosted by Dr. John Olkowski, of EyeSight Hawaii. A $500 scholarship will be awarded to one attending student, details will be announced during the event. The winning recipient will need to be present. Parents are welcome to attend but seats are limited and will be given to students first. See Ms. Himuro in the CCC if you would like to register for the event.

College Planning Workshop The Hawaii Association for College Admission Counseling will be hosting a College Planning Workshop on Saturday, November 23rd from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm at Nanakuli Library. The following topics will be presented: Prepare for the college admission process, Find the right academic fit, social fit, and financial fit, and Understand college financial aid. This free workshop is suitable for high school students and their families. Younger students and their families are also welcome to attend.

Explore Manoa Registration for Explore Manoa is now open! This free event hosted by the University of Hawaii at Manoa Office of Admissions is designed for all Hawaii high school students and their families to learn more about college, preparing for college and to discover the opportunities at UH Manoa. The event will be held on Sunday, November 24th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the UH Manoa Campus Center. Register online at http://manoa.hawaii.edu/admissions/explore/index.html.

Running Start Running Start is a program that allows “eligible” high school students (typically seniors) to take college courses at a University of Hawaii system campus as part of their high school coursework. Students interested in enrolling in Running Start courses for the spring 2020 semester should see Ms. Himuro in the CCC. The application deadlines for the spring 2020 semester are as follows: Kapiolani Community College: October 15, 2019 Honolulu Community College: November 1, 2019 Leeward Community College: November 15, 2019 Windward Community College: October 31, 2019

American Legion Auxiliary – Hawaii Girls State ALA Hawaii Girls State is currently seeking females that are juniors in high school to apply for their youth leadership program. Students will learn first hand the significance and practical application of a civics education through leadership development and consensus building. Apply online at www.HawaiiGirlsState.org. Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation 2019 Scholarship The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Foundation is an organization created to support the development and growth of individual athletes and teams that compete in local, national, and international athletic competitions. All student athletes competing in water sports or volleyball can apply for Ambassadors of Aloha Scholarships. Students must also have at least a 3.0 GPA and be involved in community service. The application is available online at www.dukefoundation.org. Deadline to apply is November 24, 2019.

Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation offers scholarships to Hawaii residents pursuing degrees in Business Administration, or other business-related fields, at any accredited four-year college or university. Four-year scholarships are awarded to students just entering college in increments of $5,000 annually. Assuming eligibility is maintained, a total of $20,000 will be awarded over four years. These awards will cover only the remainder of the student’s originally approved undergraduate program’s cost. The Fukunaga Scholarship Foundation anticipates awarding approximately 10 new scholarships. Visit https://www.servco.com/giving-back/scholarships/ for more information and to apply. The application deadline is February 14, 20 20.

Harriet Bouslog Labor Scholarship Fund The Harriet Bouslog Labor Scholarship was established to demonstrate support for, as well as to commemorate the historic achievements of the ILWU and encourage greater awareness and understanding among young people about the ILWU’s economic, social, and political contributions to Hawaii. The Scholarships provides college opportunities for children of ILWU Local 142 members whose struggles made Hawaii the multi-cultural, multi-ethnic community it is today. The Scholarship is open to the family members of existing and retired ILWU 142 members. You must have applied for admission to, or be currently enrolled at, any of the 10 University of Hawaii system schools (four-year universities and community colleges), on a full-time basis.
