Silversea's Successful Venetian Society Voyage 2018 Sets High
SILVERSEA’S SUCCESSFUL VENETIAN SOCIETY VOYAGE 2018 SETS HIGH STANDARDS FOR NEXT YEAR’S EDITION (Miami, FL – November 06, 2018) Silversea’s greatly anticipated Venetian Society voyage concluded emphatically in Lisbon on October 18, following a varied itinerary which incorporated a number of unique, bespoke events. Having departed from Monte Carlo on October 9, 2018, Silversea’s Silver Whisper visited a number of destinations in France and Spain. Hosted by Fernando Barroso De Oliveira, Silversea’s Executive Chairman’s ambassador to the Venetian Society, the annual voyage unlocked authentic events, activities, receptions and other privileges exclusively for the cruise line’s valued Venetian Society. A standout highlight of the voyage, Venetian Society guests witnessed a human tower, constructed on the grounds of the magnificent Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau in Barcelona—an architectural marvel that is protected by UNESCO World Heritage status. The Catalan tradition of building human towers, also known as Castells, has never been staged at this remarkable venue. The captivating presentation, planned and orchestrated exclusively for the guests of the ultra-luxury cruise line, featured a human structure that comprised of approximately 120 performers standing atop one another. It took place during the ship's call in the Catalan capital on October 11. The unique event also included a Catalan-inspired banquet at the spectacular Sala Hipóstila pavilion and private tours of the venue. The human tower was part of an array of enhancements designed to enrich the voyage exclusively for Venetian Society guests. Among other exciting highlights were two flamenco music and dance presentations, ‘Flamenco Fuego’ and ‘Flamenco Notes,’ performed in the ship's elegant Show Lounge. -

Home Line’s ITALIA (ex-KUNGSHOLM) is sailing up the Hudson River to her midtown Manhattan berth. (Port Authority of NY & NJ and HAL) THE PORT OF NEW YORK - WATERFRONT REVOLUTION by Ted Scull 1965, the year our PONY Branch was established, produced a bumper crop of outstanding new ships - Home Lines’ OCEANIC in April, Italian Line’s MICHELANGELO in May and RAFFAELLO in August, and Norwegian America’s SAGAFJORD in October. It was also the first full year that our speaker, Ted Scull, worked at Pier 40, the new North American headquarters for Holland America Line. Pier 40 was not a typical finger pier, rather a square facility with a donut hole in the center for handling freight and passengers. It was designed to save longshoremen jobs on the Manhattan waterfront. At the time, freight traffic was robust, and bookings were good for the passenger ships. But parallel revolutions in shipping were already underway, and sooner than anyone imagined. Containerization would almost completely transform the way cargo would be handled and doom New York’s commercial waterfront in favor of the vast acreage available in New Jersey. -

Silversea Cruises Ann...Sister Ship to Be Built by Fincantieri
SILVERSEA CRUISES ANNOUNCES A NEW SISTER SHIP TO BE BUILT BY FINCANTIERI The cruise line orders one sister ship of Silver Muse Expected to be delivered in 2020 (Monte Carlo, Monaco – September 13, 2017) Silversea Cruises and Fincantieri have announced the signing of a contract worth approximately 310 million euros for the construction of a new ultra-luxury cruise ship. The ship is due to join the Silversea fleet in 2020. The new ship, tentatively named Silver Moon, will be the sister ship of Silver Muse which was delivered in April 2017 at the Fincantieri shipyard in Sestri Ponente (Genoa). At 40,700 gross tons and with a capacity to accommodate 596 passengers on board, Silver Moon will maintain the small-ship intimacy and spacious all-suite accommodation, which is the hallmark of the Silversea experience. The new build will expand Silversea's fleet to 10 ships and will significantly raise the bar in the ultra-luxury segment with a wealth of enhancements to the on board experience while satisfying the uncompromising requirements for comfort, service and quality of the world's most discerning travellers. Among the highlights of the new ship, the “Green Star 3 Design” will be a stand out feature. It is assigned to ships that are designed, built and equipped in order to prevent air and water pollution. Furthermore, the “COMF-NOISE A PAX” and “COMF-NOISE B CREW” are assigned on the basis of the noise levels measured on the ship. Results have shown that new-builds assigned these standards offer the very best levels of comfort to guests on board. -

The Group has made tremendous strides in resuming service both in the United States and globally and is encouraged by the significant improvement in demand and pricing environments for cruises. Resumption of Sailing and Business Highlights The resumption of service is being implemented at a very fast pace. • Already, the Group is operating 29 ships across its five brands, representing 42% of capacity. • By the end of this month, the Group expects to be operating 36 ships, representing over 60% of its capacity. • The Company anticipates having 80% of its capacity in service by end of year 2021. “We’re thrilled to be back on the water at accelerated speed in the US and elsewhere. After 16 months of being at a virtual standstill and another painful financial result this quarter, the flywheel is clearly picking up momentum,” said Richard D. On Friday, July 22, 2016, the only active commissioned sailing vessel “USCG Cutter Eagle” is scheduled to arrive at approximately 11:00am in Downtown Norfolk, docking at Otter Berth next to the future Waterside District. The ship will depart at approximately 10:00am on Monday, July 25, 2016. Arrival and departure times are approximate and are subject to change due inclement weather. Built in Germany in 1936 and taken as reparation by the United States at the close of World War II, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the Stars and Stripes.
