All contents presented in this book are of entire responsibility of the authors. 5 Prefácio Com um território de 90.680.600 hectares, o Estado de Mato Grosso possui uma gama de bele- zas naturais e rica biodiversidade, abriga atualmente 46 unidades de conservação estaduais que correspondem a 3,2 milhões de hectares. Significativa parte desta biodiversidade é desconheci- da em decorrência da pouca geração e disseminação de conhecimento sobre a mesma. A Estação Ecológica do Rio Ronuro é uma das 5 Estações Ecológicas Estaduais existentes, des- taca-se por se localizar na região central do Estado, especificamente compreendendo a tran- sição entre os biomas Cerrado e Floresta Amazônica (Contato Savana/Floresta Estacional/Flo- resta Ombrófila), característica esta, que lhe confere potencial de abrigar rica biodiversidade o que lhe confere relevância singular dentro do Sistema Estadual de Unidades de Conservação. Em cumprimento ao objetivo pelo qual a Estação Ecológica do Rio Ronuro foi criada: pro- teção dos ecossistemas existentes, desenvolvimento de pesquisas científicas e educação conservacionista; a SEMA-MT, juntamente com a cooperação técnica do Programa Áreas Protegida da Amazônia (ARPA), de pesquisadores da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso (UFMT) e apoio do Programa de Pesquisa em Biodiversidade (PPBIO) somaram esforços no levantamento e catalogação do conhecimento sobre a fauna e flora. As pesquisas cientificas desenvolvidas nesta unidade de conservação ampliaram a base de co- nhecimento sobre a biodiversidade, proporcionou o treinamento de estudantes e agentes co- munitários locais e incentivou estudos de bioprospecção das espécies com potencial que ocor- rem na região, tornando possível esta publicação que reúne os estudos sistemáticos realizados. Mauren Lazzaretti Secretária de Estado de Meio Ambiente do Estado de Mato Grosso SEMA-MT 6 Preface With a territory of 90,680,600 hectares, the state of Mato Grosso possesses a broad range of natural beauty and rich biodiversity and currently houses 46 state conservation units that encompass 3.2 million hectares. A significant part of this biodiversity, however, remains un- known due to limited knowledge generation and dissemination. Rio Ronuro Ecological Station is one of five existing state ecological stations in Mato Gros- so. It stands out for being located in the central region of the state, specifically comprising the transition between the Cerrado and Amazonia biomes (area with Savanna/Seasonal For- est/Ombrophilous Forest), bestowing it with the potential to harbor rich biodiversity and thus unique relevance within State System of Conservation Units. In compliance with the objective for which Rio Ronuro Ecological Station was created – protection of existing ecosystems, development of scientific research and conservation ed- ucation – State Secretary of Environment of Mato Grosso (SEMA-MT), together with the technical cooperation of Amazon Region Protected Areas Program (ARPA) and researchers of Federal University of Mato Grosso (UFMT), and support from Biodiversity Research Pro- gram (PPBIO), contributed efforts to survey and catalog the station’s flora and fauna. Scientific research developed in the conservation unit has broadened knowledge of biodiver- sity, provided training for students and local community agents, encouraged bioprospecting studies of species with potential that occur in the region, and made this publication possi- ble, which brings together all the systematic studies carried out to date. The knowledge gathered in this work will contribute to the processes of environmental edu- cation and conservation of biodiversity, as well as provide academic information for society in general. This knowledge will support the decision-making process for public policies for Rio Ronuro Ecological Station, enable its valorization and acknowledge the ecological pro- cesses that maintain it. Laccariopsis is morphologically close to these genera but distinguished by a unique combination of features: a Laccaria-like habit (distant, thick, subdecurrent lamellae), viscid pileus and upper stipe, glabrous stipe with a long pseudorhiza connecting with Ammophila and Juniperus roots and incorporating plant debris and sand particles, pileipellis consisting of a loose ixohymeniderm with slender pileocystidia, large and thin- to thick-walled spores and basidia, thin- to slightly thick-walled hymenial cystidia and caulocystidia, and monomitic stipe tissue. Phylogenetic analyses based on a combined ITS-LSU sequence dataset place Laccariopsis close to Gloiocephala and Rhizomarasmius. Previous collections were misidentified as Laccaria maritima (Theodor.) Singer ex Huhtinen (Dal Savio 1984) due to their laccarioid habit. The generic attribution to Hydropus Kühner ex Singer by Pacioni & Lalli (1985) was due mainly to the presence of reddish watery droplets on young lamellae and sarcodimitic tissue in the stipe (Corner 1966, Singer 1982).

In this contribution, the families Tricholomataceae and Polyporaceae are presented. Materials & Methods Nomenclature and classification systems This checklist compiled data from the available literature on Tricholomataceae and Polyporaceae recorded for Argentina up to the year 2011. Nomenclature and classification systems followed Singer (1986) for families. The genera Pleurotus, Panus, Lentinus, and Schyzophyllum are included in the family Polyporaceae. The Tribe Polyporae (including the genera Polyporus, Pseudofavolus, and Mycobonia) is excluded. There were important rearrangements in the families Tricholomataceae and Polyporaceae according to Singer (1986) over time to present. Tricholomataceae was distributed in six families: Tricholomataceae, Marasmiaceae, Physalacriaceae, Lyophyllaceae, Mycenaceae, and Hydnaginaceae. Some genera belonging to this family were transferred to other orders, i.e. Rickenella (Rickenellaceae, Hymenochaetales), and Lentinellus (Auriscalpiaceae, Russulales).

Ants are present in human corpses subject to forensic analyses and can also be used in estimation of the post-mortem interval (PMI). Cephalotes clypeatus Fabricius is exclusively arboricolous and occurs only in the American continent. During a field study conducted in the Campus of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas, in December 2003, a laboratory mouse carcass weighing 35,9 g was placed in an iron-mesh cage, which was adequate to collect adult ants. The carcass decomposed in four days. The total of 82 specimens of C. clypeatus was collected, in the first two days of exposure. They were observed feeding on exudates, tissues of the carcass, and on Diptera larvae occurring in the carcass. This species was observed nesting in hollow branches of Senna multijuga (Rich.) H.S. Irwin & Barneby (Caesalpinaceae), which was found one-meter far from the cage. Further investigation on the biology of this Cephalotini must be performed, in order to understand the role of this species in the utilization of animal carcasses, and in the entomological succession process as well.

ABSTRACT Until now almost nothing was known of invertebrates such as wild bees in the Bamenda highland forest region in Cameroon. This study focuses on honey producing bee species which do not possess functional stings. The diversity of the stingless bees in this area as well as their nest biology and behaviour was studied. In all, Six species of stingless bees grouped into four genera exist in the Bamenda afro-montane forests. The four genera are: Meliponula (3 species), Dactylurina (1species), Hypotrigona (1 species) and Liotrigona (1species). The most represented of the species in Bamenda was Liotrigona. Stingless bees were found to have huge variations in habitat preferences and in nest architectures. Nest designs differ with species as well as the habitats. Nest were found in tree trunks, mud walls, traditional hives, in soils or even just attached to tree branches. Brood cells and storage pots differ from species to species.

Author for correspondence: Alfredo Justo, [email protected] Abstract: The phylogeny of Trametes and related genera was studied using molecular data from ribosomal markers (nLSU, ITS) and protein-coding genes (RPB1, RPB2, TEF1-alpha) and consequences for the taxonomy and nomenclature of this group were considered. Separate datasets with rDNA data only, single datasets for each of the protein-coding genes, and a combined five-marker dataset were analyzed. Molecular analyses recover a strongly supported trametoid clade that includes most of Trametes species (including the type T. suaveolens, the T. versicolor group, and mainly tropical species such as T. maxima and T. cubensis) together with species of Lenzites and Pycnoporus and Coriolopsis polyzona. Our data confirm the positions of Trametes cervina (= Trametopsis cervina) in the phlebioid clade and of Trametes trogii (= Coriolopsis trogii) outside the trametoid clade, closely related to Coriolopsis gallica. The genus Coriolopsis, as currently defined, is polyphyletic, with the type species as part of the trametoid clade and at least two additional lineages occurring in the core polyporoid clade. In view of these results the use of a single generic name (Trametes) for the trametoid clade is considered to be the best taxonomic and nomenclatural option as the morphological concept of Trametes would remain almost unchanged, few new nomenclatural combinations would be necessary, and the classification of additional species (i.e., not yet described and/or sampled for mo- lecular data) in Trametes based on morphological characters alone will still be possible.

It is characterized by producing annual, fragile and nodulose basidiomata, a monomitic hyphal system with clamp connections on generative hyphae, hyaline, thin-walled and fusiform to mango-shaped basidiospores (6–7.5 × 2.3– 3 µm), and causing a typical brown rot. In phylogenetic analysis inferred from ITS and nLSU rDNA sequences, the new species forms a distinct lineage in the Antrodia s. l., and has a close relationship with A. oleracea. The present work represents the first part of a series of papers studying the type material of the New World Scarabaeinae deposited in all major museums of the world. The main goals of this series are to locate the whereabouts of those types, designate, when appropriate, lectotypes and neotypes, and illustrate those speci- mens and their labels so that it will be possible for anyone interested to identify species already described and recognize new ones. As a start to this series, we present information on and illustrate the type material of the nominal species- group taxa proposed by the German entomologist Adolf Schmidt in the genus Canthon Hoffmannsegg, 1817, in two papers published in 1920 and 1922. Deposited in five European museums (Berlin, Dresden, Müncheberg, Brussels, and Stock- holm), we were able to find the type specimens of all but one of the 51 names firstly established as new species or new varieties by Schmidt. Of these 50 names, we designate lectotypes for 38. Schmidt also proposed three nominal species in Canthon as replacement names – C.

In view of the importance of sampling these areas, the present study conducted the first butterfly inventory of a coastal area in the state of Paraná. Samples were taken in the Floresta Estadual do Palmito, from February 2014 through January 2015, using insect nets and traps for fruit-feeding butterfly species. A total of 200 species were recorded, in the families Hesperiidae (77), Nymphalidae (73), Riodinidae (20), Lycaenidae (19), Pieridae (7) and Papilionidae (4). Particularly notable records included the rare and vulnerable Pseudotinea hemis (Schaus, 1927), representing the lowest elevation record for this species, and Temenis huebneri korallion Fruhstorfer, 1912, a new record for Paraná. These results reinforce the need to direct sampling efforts to poorly inventoried areas, to increase knowledge of the distribution and occurrence patterns of butterflies in Brazil.
