2017 Geoff Hall / Paul Bosdet : Photo Courtesy of Tony North Volume 8 : Issue 11 : November 2017 : Maurice Ellison Chairman's Chat For me October included trips to the Isle of Mull and North Wales (via Cheshire), one an enjoyable trip and one a little less so. On the Isle of Mull were the two events, which replaced the cancelled Mull Rally, and I marshalled on the Targa Rally and did my usual radio job on the Rally Time Trial. Both events were well organised given the short time available to achieve them and all the competitors and I enjoyed them. For more on these see my article on pages 23 to 30, “Isle of Mull October 17”. In Cheshire/Wales it was of course the WRGB when I controlled the recce for the Cholmondeley Castle stage on the Wednesday then spent three days based in the North Wales Regional Centre acting as a link between stag- es, the NW Regional Manager and Rally HQ in Deeside. Needless to say I never saw a competing car but then again that’s the usual case when controlling stages on the top of a mountain !! On a positive note, congratula- tions to Elfyn Evans &Daniel Barritt for winning the event, Sebastien Ogier & Julien Ingrassia for clinching the WRC Championship and, best of all, for M-Sport for taking the WRC Manufacturers title. On a negative note, sadly the event once again attracted some less savoury characters, those, spectators and even a media chap, hailing abuse or bottles at marshals or cars having had a few too many sherberts. -

Didier Auriol

Formula Ford 2012 Race Reports
FORMULA FORD 2012 RACE REPORTS ROUND 1: BURI IS THE FIRST ECOBOOST WINNER • Finn takes pole-to-flag victory for JTR and Mygale • Mexican 16-year-old Fabian Welter dominates the Duratec class 7 APRIL 2012 - Flying Finn Antti Buri claimed the maiden honours in the new era of Formula Ford racing, the 23-year-old winning in style for the JTR team at Oulton Park to record the first race victory for an the EcoBoost-powered chassis. Buri led all the way from pole position to take what was also his first win in the category after two seasons of trying. Mygale EcoBoost chassis from four different teams filled the top eight places in round one of the Dunlop MSA Formula Ford Championship of Great Britain, with Buri lopping 2.5s from the old Duratec Formula Ford lap record for the Cheshire track to underline the pace of the new-era car. There was a great race also for honours in the Duratec class today, Mexico's Fabian Welter - the youngest on the grid at 16 - winning on his Formula Ford debut. Buri, who signed with Nick Tandy's JTR team only this week, made his intentions clear in qualifying, posting a best lap a shade over a quarter-second better than that of his closest rival, Jamun Racing's Luke Williams (Sowerby). Jamun's other drivers, Argentinian Eric Lichtenstein and Rotherham racer Jake Cook, lined up third and fourth on the grid, ahead of JTR men Julio Moreno and Cavan Corcoran. It was Williams who appeared to make the better start to the race, pulling ahead of Buri on the run to OId Hall corner. -

I went from a little while back. Unbelievable... I’ve the biggest group of fans here’ By Yash Mudgal Doha lovakian Peter Sagan delivered a masterful fi nish sprint to fi nd rainbow stripes in Doha desert yesterday. SAt the end of a 257.3km race start- ing from Aspire Zone, which featured a display of extraordinary power and persistence, Sagan emerged from the swirling, straining throng of the world’s best sprinters — the 2011 winner Mark Cavendish and 2005 World Champion Tom Boonen – to retain the title he won last year in Richmond, Virginia. Sagan was clearly delighted to take his second consecutive world title in front of a group of his fans waving the Slovakian fl ag at The Pearl, the fi nish line. “I don’t believe it, I’m still in shock,” said Sagan after the fi nish. Sagan took advantage of the Bel- gians, who tore the race into pieces at a long cross wind stretch in the desert on the way back to Doha. The Slovak was one of the last riders to make it in the fi rst echelon in the decisive battle after about 75km into the race. -
