Extreme E is a radical new off-road racing series, founded by the same visionary behind Formula E, which will showcase electric SUVs and futuristic technologies in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments. BE LOUD – BE WILD – BE REAL PRESS RELEASE May 2, 2019 Molinaro first TitansRX female driver Italian rally talent Tamara Molinaro joins the new TitansRX Rallycross Series for 2019 The 2017 European Ladies Rally Champion Tamara Molinaro will become the first woman to compete in the brand-new TitansRX Rallycross Series. “I am extremely excited and proud to be part of this new Championship! New format, new cars and some of the best drivers in the world, it just sounds great!”, Molinaro said. TitansRX CEO Max J. Pucher said: “We have long been looking for a fitting lady to take on our group of fantastic drivers. When I saw, how Tamara was throwing around the Pantera RX6 Supercar, which she had never driven before, I knew she was the perfect choice. So, I am very happy she has agreed to become part of our lineup and I am convinced, she will quickly adapt to the car and the kind of racing in order to be part of this crew, who will bring the most exciting Rallycross to the spectators and on Eurosport." The Italian first drove a rally car at the age of eleven, thanks to her father Giorgio being involved in rallying. At the start of her career, she was mainly known as a co-driver of former Mitsubishi works driver Gigi Galli. In no time, Molinaro was picked up by Red Bull driver program. In 2013, she gave her driver debut in rallying in her native Italy. Three years ago, she drove an Opel Adam as an all-female course car in the Schneebergland Rallye in Austria with Ilka Minor as her co-driver. -

Con un tiempo de 11:29, el binomio se llevó la primera victoria con una ventaja de 23.73 segundos sobre el sueco Timmy Hansen y la británica Catie Munnings (Andretti United Extreme E). El francés Sébastien Loeb y la española Cristina Gutiérrez (Team X44) pisaron el tercer escalón del podio, a 1:38.09 de los vencedores, lastrados por problemas en la dirección asistida de su coche. En la semifinal encontraron su techo los españoles Carlos Sainz y Laia Sanz, compañeros en el equipo Acciona Sainz XE. Tras su buena sesión de calificación del sábado no pudieron disputar la final en el desierto de Al-Ula. La Extreme E, creada por el español Alejandro Agag y el expiloto brasileño Gil de Ferran, es una competición que busca reunir a diez equipos formados por binomios mixtos que correrán en cinco localizaciones al rededor del mundo y que se han visto afectadas por el cambio climático. -

At the ninth round in Lohéac, the reigning World Champion finished third – the first podium result since his victory in Hockenheim last May. In front of 75,000 spectators, the Swede was only beaten in the final by his countryman Johan Kristoffersson and the French local matador Sébastien Loeb. In the overall standings, Ekström is third behind Kristoffersson and his team mate Petter Solberg – also like EKS in the team classification. Following heavy rain, the final race in Brittany became a mud festival featuring many overtaking moves. “Saturday sun and Sunday rather more swimming and sliding, a varied weekend,” confirmed Ekström. “I’m actually quite satisfied with my third place, but I’m a little annoyed because we weren’t so far from the front. In the dry and in the rain we were just missing a tiny bit, but we can certainly build on the performance.” In Lohéac, Ekström’s team mates Reinis Nitišs and Toomas Heikkinen once again made the semi- final races for the twelve fastest drivers, but drew the short straw at this stage. “After contact with Andreas Bakkerud my wipers stopped working, from there on I was running blind,” summarized Nitišs and added: “I’m disappointed with the result because it doesn’t show our real performance.” Heikkinen missed the final after a collision with Ken Block. -

Transition theory emphasizes that development of sustainable technologies such as EVs can be achieved within niches, which are protective spaces that shield sustainable technologies from mainstream market selection pressures. An interesting environment that has generally been known for innovative developments with regard to mobility has recently seen an increased usage of EVs. This environment is the motorsport. This paper therefore aims to identify the role that the electric motorsport as niche plays in the development of EVs for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. In order to fulfil this aim, a qualitative research approach was used where both semi-structured interviews and grey literature was analysed. The electrification of certain categories of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well as the Extreme E were selected to exemplify the entire electric motorsport. The protective space conceptualisation of Smith and Raven (2012) that focuses on shielding, nurturing and empowering processes was used to conduct the analysis and describe the electric motorsport as a niche. The analysis showed that the electric motorsport as niche shows great capabilities of making contributions towards the development of EVs, but currently is not utilised to this potential.
