001 PRESS PACK ONE SEASON Season One | Press Pack Season One | Press Extreme E Extreme 002 Introduction What is Extreme E? Extreme E is a radical new off-road racing series, founded by the same visionary behind Formula E, which will showcase electric SUVs and futuristic technologies in some of the world’s most remote and challenging environments. This five-event global voyage will utilise its sporting platform for the purpose of promoting electrification, environment and equality. The series’ goal is to highlight the impact of climate change in some of the world’s most endangered environments, promote the adoption of electric vehicles to pave the way for a lower carbon future, and provide a world-first gender-equal motorsport platform. Season One | Press Pack Season One | Press The first sport to ever be built out of a social purpose, Extreme E aims to minimise environmental impact while maximising awareness, racing in places that have already been damaged or affected by climate change or human interference and taking fans deep into the heart of the most pressing issues facing our planet’s future. Not only that, but Extreme E is also helping the car industry to develop future-facing technology using racing as a platform for road innovation, which accelerates change ten-fold. Extreme E Extreme 003 Introduction Welcome from our CEO Welcome to Extreme E, the most ground-breaking adventure in sport, and most importantly, a sport with huge purpose. It’s been a year of both triumph and, unfortunately, tragedy and in this issue we take time out to remember María de Villota, whose passing in October left a deep void not just in motor sport but in all our hearts. María’s bravery following her F1 testing accident and the dedication she displayed afterwards – not only in promoting female involvement in motor sport but also safety on the road and track – will be missed. Elsewhere, it was a year of great success for women competitors and in this edition we look at Lucile Cypriano’s victory in the VW and commission-supported shoot-out for a place in next year’s VW Scirocco R-Cup and reveal how the FIA European Rallycross Championship has become a haven for female racers. It’s been a great year for CONTACTS: women in all forms of motor sport and IF YOU HAVE ANY COMMENTS ABOUT THIS NEWSLETTER OR we look forward to even more in 2014! STORIES FOR THE NEXT ISSUE, WE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU. -

The Role of Electric Motorsport in the Sustainable Mobility Transition
The Role of Electric Motorsport in the Sustainable Mobility Transition Master Thesis – Master Sustainable Business and Innovation Author: Bram Weggemans Student Number: 6942857 Email Address: [email protected] Supervisor: Dr. Matthijs Punt Second Reader: Dr. Toon Meelen Date: 30-06-2021 Course: SBI-Master’s Thesis Word Count: 19940 Abstract Electric vehicles (EVs) are perceived as a viable technology for the replacement of combustion engine vehicles for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. Transition theory emphasizes that development of sustainable technologies such as EVs can be achieved within niches, which are protective spaces that shield sustainable technologies from mainstream market selection pressures. An interesting environment that has generally been known for innovative developments with regard to mobility has recently seen an increased usage of EVs. This environment is the motorsport. This paper therefore aims to identify the role that the electric motorsport as niche plays in the development of EVs for a transition towards a more sustainable mobility system. In order to fulfil this aim, a qualitative research approach was used where both semi-structured interviews and grey literature was analysed. The electrification of certain categories of the FIA World Rallycross Championship as well as the Extreme E were selected to exemplify the entire electric motorsport. The protective space conceptualisation of Smith and Raven (2012) that focuses on shielding, nurturing and empowering processes was used to conduct the analysis and describe the electric motorsport as a niche. The analysis showed that the electric motorsport as niche shows great capabilities of making contributions towards the development of EVs, but currently is not utilised to this potential. -

Extreme E Confirms Desert Location in Saudi Arabia
EXTREME E CONFIRMS DESERT LOCATION IN SAUDI ARABIA 31 October, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia: Extreme E has today named the third of its five race locations, confirming that the Desert leg of the new electric rally series will take place in Saudi Arabia, with a number of potential routes currently being examined. Alejandro Agag, Founder and CEO of Extreme E, made the announcement alongside His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki AlFaisal Al Saud, Chairman of the Saudi Arabia General Sports Authority and His Royal Highness Prince Khaled Bin Sultan Bin Abdullah AlFaisal, President of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation, at the King Abdul Aziz Conference Centre, Riyadh, during the Future Investment Initiative forum. “One of the major cornerstones of this revolutionary championship is that we will race across terrains and environments that will push the world’s top drivers, teams and engineers to their absolute limits,” said Agag. “For our Desert location, we are taking a real leap into uncharted territory. Heading to Saudi Arabia, home of the world’s largest continuous sand desert among a multitude of extraordinary environments in which to race, gives us unbelievable scope to create an unprecedented challenge for our competitors without creating a negative impact. “The Kingdom’s terrain is stunning and unforgiving, while the heat and conditions will be intense. There is no question that the winning combination of driver and machine will be a deserving one.” Extreme E’s five-race global voyage aims to highlight the impact of climate change and human interference on some of the most remarkable, remote locations in the world, as well as serving to promote the adoption of electric vehicles in the fight to help preserve the environment and protect the planet.
