DOMAINES ROLLAN DE BY CHÂTEAU ROLLAN DE BY MÉDOC CRU BOURGEOIS 2014 BACKGROUND Acquired from the Old Town Company, Domaine Rollan de By, a leader of the Crus Bourgeois, is one of the most significant properties in the Médoc region. This is due in part to the nearly 500 acres and exceptional terroir located around the area of By. Domaines Rollan de By balances, respecting the local environment while also embracing modern technologies that further enhance these exceptional wines. Château Rollan de By vineyards sit on 128 acres of clayey-chalky soils dating from the quaternary era. The vines are 35 years old on average with a density of 16,000 to 24,000 plants per acre. APPELLATION Bordeaux (Médoc Cru Bourgeois), France VARIETAL COMPOSITION 70% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 10% Petit Verdot WINEMAKING & VINTAGE NOTES Grapes are mostly handpicked and sorted manually in the cellar and WINE ENTHUSIAST 91 April, 2017 with an optical sorting table. POINTS Cold pre-fermentation occurs in stainless steel tanks, long maceration 91 PTS JAMES SUCKLING 2/17 between 40 and 45 days at 82°F in new oak barrels on fine lees. 89 PTS WINE ADVOCATE 10/16 89 PTS WINE & SPIRITS 6/18 Followed by malolactic fermentation and lees stirring in barrels. 88–90 PTS VINOUS 4/15 AGEING First, the wine undergoes micro-bullage or microoxygenation and then is aged on lees with regular bâtonnage during three months. 18 months aged in tanks and oak barrels (95% French oak and 15% American oak). WINEMAKER Jean Luc Marteau TASTING NOTES A very ripe, suave style, showing modern mocha, licorice and black tea aromas that lead the way for a solid core of blackberry and plum, with a velvety finish.
