We have interpreted this in a broad sense, so that all islands from Trinidad to the Bahamas have been included. Furthermore, we have included Bermuda, even though it is well north of the Caribbean region proper, as a more logical extension of the island fauna rather than the continental North American fauna. This was mentioned by Banks (1902b) nearly a century ago. Country or region (e. g., pantropical) records are included for those species which have broader ranges than the Caribbean area. We have not specifically included the islands of the Florida Keys, even though these could legitimately be included in the Caribbean region, because the known fauna is mostly continental. However, when Florida is known as the only continental U.S.A. -

It is based on both original data and published data dating from 1861 to October 2000. Northern Asia is defined as the territories of Siberia, the Russian Far East, Mongolia, northern provinces of China, and both Korea and Japan (Hokkaido only). The catalogue lists 216 valid species belonging to 41 genera. The following data are supplied for each species: a range character- istic, all available records from northern Asia with approximate coordinates (mapped), all misidentifications and doubtful records (not mapped), habitat preferences, references to available biological data, taxonomic notes on species where necessary, references to lists of regional fauna and to catalogues of general importance. 24 species are excluded from the list of the Northern Asian salticids. 5 species names are newly synonymized: Evarcha pseudolaetabunda Peng & Xie, 1994 with E. mongolica Danilov & Logunov, 1994; He- liophanus mongolicus Schenkel, 1953 with H. baicalensis Kulczyñski, 1895; Neon rostra- tus Seo, 1995 with N. minutus ¯abka, 1985; Salticus potanini Schenkel, 1963 with S. -

ABSTRAKT Pavoukovci jsou ekologicky velmi různorodou skupinou, obývají téměř všechny biotopy a často jsou specializovaní na specifický biotop nebo dokonce mikrobiotop. Mezi specifické biotopy patří také kmeny a dutiny stromů, ptačí budky a biotopy ovlivněné hnízděním kormoránů. Ve své dizertační práci jsem se zabýval ekologií společenstev pavouků a sekáčů na těchto specifických biotopech. V první studii jsme se zabývali společenstvy pavouků a sekáčů na kmenech stromů na dvou odlišných biotopech, v lužním lese a v městské zeleni. Zabývali jsme se také jednotlivými společenstvy na kmenech různých druhů stromů a srovnáním tří jednoduchých sběrných metod – upravené padací pasti, lepového a kartonového pásu. Ve druhé studii jsme se zabývali arachnofaunou dutin starých dubů za pomocí dvou sběrných metod (padací past v dutině a nárazová past u otvoru dutiny) na stromech v lužním lese a solitérních stromech na loukách a také srovnáním společenstev v dutinách na živých a odumřelých stromech. Ve třetí studii jsme se zabývali společenstvem pavouků zimujících v ptačích budkách v nížinném lužním lese a vlivem vybraných faktorů prostředí na jejich početnosti. Zabývali jsme se také znovuosídlováním ptačích budek pavouky v průběhu zimy v závislosti na teplotě a vlivem hnízdního materiálu v budce na početnosti a druhové spektrum pavouků. -

Richman I present here the results of a search through the literature on salticids over the last 10 years for any reference to courtship or agonistic behavior. These include passing references and detailed descriptions. The species are listed alphabetically, along with proper citations, and following this is as nearly complete a bibliography as I have been able to obtain. Changes in taxonomy are noted in the list. It is my hope that this list will be of help to all investigators interested in courtship and agonistic behavior. It will be noted that although I had stated (Richman 1977, 1982) that I thought that Sassacus papenhoei Peckham & Peckham and Metaphidippus vitis (Cockerell) were congeneric, I have still retained them in their old genera. I have since examined specimens of both species from Arizona and have decided that they are too morphologically distinct to be included in the same genus. The general body shape, the structure of the embolus of the males, the epigynal structure, the ventral spination on the first pair of legs, and the different proportions of the male palpi are all characteristics which separate the two taxa. Their courtships are very similar, but this may not be as significant as I thought. Both genera are, however, in the Dendryphantinae. In the following list most references contain data on courtship. -

CASTRO GIL 1 ABSTRACT The aims of this research are to determine the time of year with the highest spe- cies richness to avoid whole-year samplings in future studies, and to contribute to the seasonal dynamics and faunistic knowledge of the spider fauna of the study area. Hence, it summarizes temporal changes in species richness and seasonal activities of spiders collected in several temperate forests sampled using different methods. Results show the May-June transition as the period with the peak in species rich- ness. However, this maximum takes place earlier in the epigeal stratum (May), and later on tree trunks (June). Additionally, lower strata show higher representation of species of long mating periods. Three species, Centromerita bicolor, Micrargus aper- tus and Midia midas are new records for Iberian fauna, while Peponocranium ludi- crum is a new genus record for Spain. Seasonal activities of Nemesia simoni and Labulla flahaulti are described for the first time. Data obtained in two of the sam- pled forests will make it possible to evaluate the efficiency of future short-term collecting protocols for the study area. • KEY WORDS: Araneae, seasonal activity, temperate forests, species richness, Spain. Meanwhile, Central European spiders have undergone substantial changes in abundance and distribution. In this report, an updated Red List is presented and compared with the previous editions from 1992 and 2002, assessing all 879 spider species known to occur in the Czech Republic. For the first time, the abundance, area of occupancy and population trends were calculated for each of the species using the data from the Czech Arachnological Society recording scheme. Twenty-seven species (3% of the total) were classified as Regionally Extinct (RE), 92 (10%) as Critically Endangered, 115 (13%) as Endangered, 155 (18%) as Vulnerable, and 121 (14%) were classified as Least Concern species. -
