Ostgutcd15 Engl Title: V.A. - FÜNF Label: OstGut Ton Cat.No.: OSTGUTCD15/LP07 Formats: 2CD/7 x 12“-Box Release Date: 25.10.2010 Distribution: Kompakt Barcode: 2CD:880319426124 Vinyl-Box: 880319425219 Ostgut Ton releases this unique compilation of music crafted from field Key selling points: recordings made inside the two Berlin clubs Berghain and Panorama Bar. The concept and original recordings were made by the Berlin - This compilation will be based producer Emika. Over a period of two months Emika created the released as a double cd recordings in the clubs while they were closed to the public and edited and a limited 7 piece vinyl them into a library of sounds. The library was then given to all the box (1500 units) Ostgut Ton artists, but also to club associates like DJ Pete aka containing 24 exclusive Substance, Dinky, Cassy, Margaret Dygas, Ryan Elliott and Scuba new tracks by 23 different using his SCB alias, to make music with. This release marks the artists celebration of the label's five year anniversary. - All tracks contain field recordings from within Emika's idea started from feeling the whole building resonating from the Berghain and Panorama music being played, which lead to the question: which sounds exist Bar exclusive to this here when there is no party? Intrigued by stories of how the club spaces release and sound systems influence the resident DJ sets and productions, - A tour by the labelʼs Emika was curious to explore what music could be made from the roster will support the building itself. Berghainʼs sound technicians Krischan Makswitat and release in the fall and Silvio König, helped to record the entire light rig including the strobe winter of 2010/2011 lights, which in itself sounds techno. Other interesting sources to record were the large cooling rooms used for storing thousands of drinks in bottles. The ventilation systems in these rooms make incredible sub frequencies mixed with the sound of the bottles vibrating against each other. The club also contains large swings made from metal which creak and moan at the slightest of movements. >>>>>>>>> Ostgut GmbH/Ostgut Ton | Rüdersdorfer Str. 70 | 10243 Berlin, Germany Phone: +49-30-29 36 02 54 | Fax: +49-30-29 35 18 30 | Email: [email protected] | Web: www.berghain.de In total the library comprised over four gigabytes of sounds, and the artists were not given restrictions on how to make music from the library. The tracks on this compilation consist of each artists signature production aesthetics and feature debut solo productions by our residents Fiedel (one half of seminal Berlin based outfit MMM), Boris and Prosumerʼs long term production partner Tama Sumo. All together this release highlights the special and inseparable relationships between the label, club space, and collective of artists. Notes to editors: 1.Emika and Ostgut Ton label manager Nick Höppner, as well as select artists will be available for interviews. 2.Emika is a recording artist with Ninja Tune, London. 3.Not all the tracks on the compilation are made exclusively from the sounds. • An Oral History of Berlin Minimal Techno
Menu Search Red Bull Music Academy Daily An Oral History of Berlin Minimal Techno A look back at the stripped-down subgenre that defined the German capital from 1998-2008 September 7, 2018 By Joshua Glazer In 1998, the rave scene that gripped Germany after reunification was at its apex. What had started in the literal underground spaces of post-GDR Berlin after the fall of the Wall had gone mainstream, with millions of young people celebrating the colorful culture of electronic dance music all across the country. But the techno utopia envisioned by many as the new millenium approached was already starting to come undone. The trend was swiftly co-opted – ironically, by some of the same capitalist forces that had defeated the communist system a decade earlier. The bubble soon burst, and many of those truly dedicated to the music were forced to rebuild. The result was something that was the opposite of rave’s over-the- top excess, a movement that idealized a minimalist aesthetic in sound, visuals and fashion. It was a lifestyle that resisted the unbridled exuberance of rave in favor of something more sustainable – and sustain it did, with tracks that filled whole sides of vinyl and parties that went on for days at a time. Berlin became the center for this new creative community, drawing in techno practitioners and aficionados from around the world who came for the party and stayed for the ease of living made possible by cheap rents and easy access to artist visas. “Minimal” became the buzzword around this scene, and while overindulgences were aplenty in freewheeling afterhours, the “arm, aber sexy” (poor but sexy) slogan coined by then-mayor Klaus Wowereit could not have been a more accurate appraisal of Berlin’s appeal.

  • Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: an Analysis Into Graphic Design's
Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres by Vivian Le A THESIS submitted to Oregon State University Honors College in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems (Honors Scholar) Presented May 29, 2020 Commencement June 2020 AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF Vivian Le for the degree of Honors Baccalaureate of Science in Accounting and Business Information Systems presented on May 29, 2020. Title: Visual Metaphors on Album Covers: An Analysis into Graphic Design’s Effectiveness at Conveying Music Genres. Abstract approved:_____________________________________________________ Ryann Reynolds-McIlnay The rise of digital streaming has largely impacted the way the average listener consumes music. Consequentially, while the role of album art has evolved to meet the changes in music technology, it is hard to measure the effect of digital streaming on modern album art. This research seeks to determine whether or not graphic design still plays a role in marketing information about the music, such as its genre, to the consumer. It does so through two studies: 1. A computer visual analysis that measures color dominance of an image, and 2. A mixed-design lab experiment with volunteer participants who attempt to assess the genre of a given album. Findings from the first study show that color scheme models created from album samples cannot be used to predict the genre of an album. Further findings from the second theory show that consumers pay a significant amount of attention to album covers, enough to be able to correctly assess the genre of an album most of the time.

  • Politics of Electronic Music Purism: Social Space and Label Authenticity in the Netherlands
Politics of electronic music purism: Social space and label authenticity in the Netherlands Master Thesis Student Name: Marko Polovina Student Number: 465938 Supervisor: Erik Hitters Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University Rotterdam June, 2018 i Abstract Since electronic music’s emergence in the mid-1980s, the genre has gained considerable recognition as an unusual and an interesting case study for cultural production dynamics and socio-cultural values in regards to what is considered authentic. The scene in the Netherlands has seen large-scale consumption of more mainstream/accessible off-shoots of electronic music genres such as trance, techno, and house for over two decades. The most significant case studies on electronic music are presented by Thornton (1995) and Hesmondhalgh (1998), generally taking a more broad approach in understanding these definitions within the electronic music dance industry; both share key ideas of technology innovation and convergence of these practices within identity. This thesis attempts to look at the label perspective of the Dutch scene because of its independent and historical connotations associated with the music genre, similarly done by Grote (2014) and Strachan (2007) in other locations and genres in the label perspective. The fact that these labels are independent, but aesthetically appear small-scale, despite at times being the large-scale producer of certain genres, creates a dissonance in the way that cultural capital can be clearly created in this world. Bourdieu’s (1993/1996) cultural capital, specifically the social space aspect, along with Bruno Latour’s (1996) actor network theory is used to understand how music labels in the Dutch electronic music industry in Amsterdam and Rotterdam construct their identities in this network of influences and social space, what they distinctly value as authentic, and ultimately how they perceive authenticity in the current electronic music scene.

At Pineapple Lab in Makati, he showcases his photographs from 80s East Berlin. Photos by SVEN MARQUARDT/GOETHE-INSTITUT PHILIPPINEN/FACEBOOK Manila (CNN Philippines Life) — Lightning struck the walls of the infamous Berlin nightclub, Berghain, but instead of fleeing, the people on the massive dance floor stripped naked, and raved on. The air conditioner broke. The emergency lights went on. Nobody realized what was happening until the music stopped and the lights went o, according to eyewitness reports from several music news sources. The club turned into a sauna filled with topless girls and boys, most of whom were earlier waiting in line outside the club for hours just to get in. No matter how hot the place would get, they would stay. And they would stay long after the sun rises. After all, Berghain is the “world’s most famous” club, as many would call it, with the strictest and most arbitrary door policy. The club’s atmosphere of freedom and hedonism, the top- tier sound system, extensive opening hours (from Saturday midnight to Monday morning), and A-list techno DJs have drawn crowds from all walks of life.
