Inclement Weather and Emergency School Closing Procedures TO: AKRON PUBLIC SCHOOL STAFF School Year 2019-2020 Inclement Weather and Emergency School Closing Procedures EARLY DISMISSAL In extreme emergency situations, it may be necessary to close school buildings before the end of the school day. If there is a need for early dismissal, the following procedure will be in effect: Radio/TV stations will be notified and the All-Call Notification System will be activated at least ninety minutes prior to the emergency dismissal time. Selected staff will remain with students who are not picked up or do not have adult supervision at home. School staff (i.e., teachers, office support, and educational assistants) will be released from duty thirty minutes after the students depart unless the immediate supervisor requires the employee’s presence to maintain student safety. In such cases, the staff will be compensated as outlined in their contract. Building principals are to remain in their buildings or at their work sites for the remainder of the scheduled workday unless notified otherwise. Custodians are to be released from duty within sixty minutes of the student dismissal. Second shift personnel are not to report to their work sites unless notified to the contrary. SCHOOL CLOSING When school is canceled due to inclement weather or other emergencies, an announcement of the closing will be broadcast by 6:30 a.m. on the following media: RADIO TELEVISION WEBSITES: WAKR-AM 1590 / WCRF-FM 103.3 CHANNELS 3-5-8-19-25 www.akronschools.com WARF-AM 1350 / WKRK-FM 92.3 Facebook: Akron Public Schools WHLO-AM 640 / WKSU-FM 89.7 Twitter: akronschools WNIR-FM 100.1 / WMJI-FM 105.7 WTAM-AM 1100 / WMMS-FM 100.7 WAKS-FM 96.5 / WONE-FM 97.5 WCLV-FM 104.9 / WQMX-FM 94.9 WCPN-FM 90.3 The All-Call Notification System will be activated to alert students and staff of a school closing. WHEN CLOSING OCCURS, THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES WILL BE IN PLACE: For School Buildings and Educational Programs All schools, including educational programs offered off school sites, will be closed. Building Administrators (Principals, Assistant Principals, and Deans) are required to report to the building from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. School staff who are bargaining unit members are not required to report to work unless stipulated by contract agreement. Day shift Custodial Staff are required to report to work no later than 7:30 a.m. and work four (4) hours to complete building checks and snow/ice removal. All evening shift custodial staff will be required to report to work when called, as needed, on a case-by-case basis, as circumstances dictate. Maintenance problems are to be reported to Robert Boxler, Director – Facilities Services, no later than 11:00 a.m. Administrative Offices include: Administration Building, Distribution, Transportation Center and Maintenance Building. Day shift Custodial Staff for the Administration Building and Distribution Services are to report to work according to their regular scheduled work day and for the remainder of the scheduled work day unless notified otherwise. The Administration Building Switchboard Operator is to report to work. Office support staff may be called into work by the department head, if needed. Staff members who are required to report to work on days that schools are closed due to inclement weather and are unable to do so are to record their absence in AESOP and notify the immediate supervisor and/or the Office of Human Resources. If you have questions regarding this listing, contact your immediate supervisor. Unless directed otherwise, all administrators and non-bargaining professional staff (aka “gray” employees) are expected to report to work. For a complete list of staff who are required to work, please see the Home Page of the Akron Public Schools website: www.akronschools.com. All Extracurricular Activities No extracurricular activities are to be scheduled or conducted either on or off school property on days that schools are closed due to inclement weather. There are NO exceptions. If any injury or mishap was to occur in a school building or facility on a day when schools were closed due to inclement weather, school personnel could be found legally negligent. The district liability insurance would not be in effect. Weekend activities are not to be canceled unless approved by the Superintendent. If schools are closed and it is necessary to obtain a principal’s permit for a weekend activity, the principal is to notify the custodian that a principal’s permit has been granted and a written permit will be issued when schools reopen. We had paid off the building debt and were reaccredited. BOARD OF HEALTH We were planning for a Gala 100th Year Celebration honoring 100 years of public health and preparing to increase the fund balance for events such as a President pandemic. The completion of our sewer project meant our plumbing problems Roberta DePompei, PhD would soon be over. We were excited to look closely at our long-term financial (Stow) stability and our grant/general revenue ratio. With our debt resolved, this President Pro Tempore was the year we were going to streamline programs and address areas of M. Dominic Cugini, BB, BA community need based on the Community Health Improvement Plan. (General Health District) Housing and all social determinants were to be further developed in our Patricia Billow, BS, JD new Strategic Plan. This was our year! It was going to be good!     ENGINEERING STATEMENT This engineering statement is prepared on behalf of Media-Com Television, Inc., licensee of Low Power TV Station WAOH-LP - Akron, Ohio, in support of comments in MM Docket 87-268, the DTV allotment proceeding. WAOH-LP operates on Channel 29 with a maximum peak visual effective radiated power of 60.6 kilowatts utilizing a direc- tional antenna. The draft table of DTV allotments contained in the Sixth Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking in MM Docket 87-268 proposes to allot Channel 29 to Youngstown, Ohio, as a DTV allotment for use by WKBN-TV, whose present NTSC operation is on Channel 27. The WAOH-LP transmitter site lies 21.3 kilometers inside the predicted 43.8 dBu noise limited contour for the proposed DTV operation of WKBN- TV on Channel 29. Thus, it is obvious that continued operation by WAOH-LP on Chan- nel 29 would cause interference to the DTV operation of WKBN-TV proposed in this draft table, since it is impossible to provide the required protection to a cochannel facil- ity, either DTV or NTSC, from a transmitter site located within its protected contour.
