(August 2012) Evleen Michelle Nasir, B.A., Texas A&M University Chair of Advisory Committee: Dr. Kirsten Pullen There is a discursive formation of incapability that surrounds senior women’s sexuality. Senior women are incapable of reproduction, mastering their bodies, or arousing sexual desire in themselves or others. The senior actresses’ I explore in the case studies below insert their performances of self and their everyday lives into the large and complicated discourse of sex, producing a counter-narrative to sexually inactive senior women. Their performances actively embody their sexuality outside the frame of a character. This thesis examines how senior actresses’ performances of sexuality extend a discourse of sexuality imposed on older woman by mass media. These women are the public face of senior women’s sexual agency. -

EMBARGOED UNTIL 8:40AM PT ON JULY 14, 2016 68th EMMY® AWARDS NOMINATIONS For Programs Airing June 1, 2015 – May 31, 2016 Los Angeles, CA, July 14, 2016– Nominations for the 68th Emmy® Awards were announced today by the Television Academy in a ceremony hosted by Television Academy Chairman and CEO Bruce Rosenblum along with Anthony Anderson from the ABC series black-ish and Lauren Graham from Parenthood and the upcoming Netflix revival, Gilmore Girls. "Television dominates the entertainment conversation and is enjoying the most spectacular run in its history with breakthrough creativity, emerging platforms and dynamic new opportunities for our industry's storytellers," said Rosenblum. “From favorites like Game of Thrones, Veep, and House of Cards to nominations newcomers like black-ish, Master of None, The Americans and Mr. Robot, television has never been more impactful in its storytelling, sheer breadth of series and quality of performances by an incredibly diverse array of talented performers. “The Television Academy is thrilled to once again honor the very best that television has to offer.” This year’s Drama and Comedy Series nominees include first-timers as well as returning programs to the Emmy competition: black-ish and Master of None are new in the Outstanding Comedy Series category, and Mr. Robot and The Americans in the Outstanding Drama Series competition. Additionally, both Veep and Game of Thrones return to vie for their second Emmy in Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Drama Series respectively. While Game of Thrones again tallied the most nominations (23), limited series The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Fargo received 22 nominations and 18 nominations respectively. -

Objectives and Contextualisation The course seeks to describe and explain the development of music and the musical phenomenon from the end of the last Baroque until the early decades of the XIX century. Therefore, it will be a contextualized journey through the most important composers, forms, genres, instruments and theories that make up the musical style of the music of the classical and musical classicism. Competences Critically analyse musical works from any of the points of view of the discipline of musicology. Developing critical thinking and reasoning and communicating them effectively both in your own and other languages. Identify and compare the different channels of reception and consumption of music in society and in culture in each period. Know and understand the historical evolution of music, its technical, stylistic, aesthetic and interpretative characteristics from a diachronic perspective. Relate concepts and information from different humanistic, scientific and social disciplines, especially the interactions which are established between music and philosophy, history, art, literature and anthropology. I. Problem For most of its history Spain had been a country of emigration—sending laborers abroad to find employment. But the latter quarter of the 20th century has seen Spain‟s status shift from a country of emigration to a country of immigration, attracting thousands upon thousands of foreign born individuals to live and work in the southern European state. Immigrants to Spain come from diverse locations: From 1995 to 2000, 40.4 percent of the legal foreign residents in Spain were from a European region of origin, followed by 29.2 percent of which were of African origin, 22.3 percent of Latin American origin, 7.9 percent of Asian origin and 0.2 percent from Oceania or other origin.”1 And the number of immigrants keeps expanding, as is evident from this information in a 2005 BBC article: The number of foreigners living in Spain has nearly quadrupled over the last five years. No other European country has experienced such a rapid rise in its number of immigrants. In 2000, there were about 900,000 immigrants registered as living in Spain. [In 2005] there [were] 3.5 million. [From the year 2000-2005] it [was] an increase of almost 400%.2 Of course Spain has had its share of troubles: years of civil strife, a crushing dictatorship led by Francisco Franco and a faltering economy were factors that led to Spain‟s status as a country of emigration as Spaniards left their homeland to find stability and jobs in Northern Europe. However, following the end of Francisco Franco‟s reign and with Spain‟s accession to the European Union (EU), Spain has gone from a sending country to a transit country and finally to its current status as a destination country for migrants. -
