My name is Andre Altherr and I’ll be your Crisis Director for the Cabinet of Armenia: 1920 committee. I’m from New York City and am currently a Second Year at the University of Chicago majoring in History and Political Science. Despite once having a social life, I now spend my free-time on much tamer activities like reading 800-page books on Armenian history, reading 900-page books on Central European history, and relaxing with the best of Stephen King and 20th century sci-fi anthologies. When not reading, I enjoy hiking, watching Frasier, and trying to catch up on much needed sleep. I’ve helped run and participated in numerous Model UN conferences in both college and high school, and I believe that this activity has the potential to hone public speaking, develop your creativity and critical thinking, and ignite interest in new fields. Devin and I care very deeply about making this committee an inclusive space in which all of you feel safe, comfortable, and motivated to challenge yourself to grow as a delegate, statesperson, and human. We trust that you will conduct yourselves with maturity and tact when discussing sensitive subjects. -

Işgal Döneminde Izmir Metropoliti Hrisostomos (1919–1922)
Trakya Üniversitesi Sosyal Bilimler Dergisi 31 Haziran 2009 Cilt 11 Sayı 1 (31-50) İŞGAL DÖNEMİNDE İZMİR METROPOLİTİ HRİSOSTOMOS (1919–1922) Yrd. Doç. Dr. Bülent ATALAY* ÖZET Yunanistan, Mondros Mütarekesi’ne rağmen İzmir’i işgal etti. Asıl amaç İzmir’in Yunanistan’a bağlanmasını sağlamaktı. XVIII. YÜZYILDA BİTLİS SANCAĞI VE İDARECİLERİ Bitlis Province and Its Governors in 18Th Century
A. Ü. Türkiyat Araştırmaları Enstitüsü Dergisi Sayı 33 Erzurum 2007 -243- XVIII. YÜZYILDA BİTLİS SANCAĞI VE İDARECİLERİ Bitlis Province and Its Governors In 18th Century Dr. Mehmet İNBAŞI* ÖZET Bitlis, Anadolu’da Müslüman Araplar müteakiben de Türkler tarafından erken fethedilen bölgelerden birisidir. Osmanlı hâkimiyetine girmesinde İdris-i Bitlisî’nin büyük rolü olmuştur. Doğuda bulunan Safevî Devleti’nin yayılmacı politikasına karşı tahkim edilen şehir, Osmanlı idaresine sadık olup bölgede etkili yerel aşiret ve kabilelerin idaresine verilmiş ve onlara hükümet statüsü altında farklı bir idare sistemi uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Bitlis sancağının idarî yapısı ile bölgede görev yapmış hanedanlar hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Anahtar kelimeler; Bitlis, Van Gölü havzası, sancak, hükümet sancaklar, XVIII. yüzyıl. ABSTRACT Bitlis is one of the early conquered places by Muslim Arabs and later Turks in Anatolia. After the Turkish-Islam dominance, significant religious and social developments took place in the city. İdris Bitlisi played an important role in order to put the city under the rule of Ottomans. Fortified against the imperial Safevids who are located in the east, the city always remained faithful to Ottomans and given under the rule of effective tribes and clans in the region by applying a different government system. In this study, information about the ruling system and about the dynasties is given. Keywords: Bitlis, Van Lake, Sandjak, Province, Governing provinces, 18th Century. uruluşu ve adının kökeni hakkında kesin bilgiler bulunmayan Bitlis, K Büyük İskender’e atfedilen bir efsaneye göre onun kumandanlarından Badlis tarafından inşa edilen kalenin etrafında kurulmuştur. -

Abstract This paper presents potential honey bee plants in Espiye (Giresun) which can be considered as a guide for beekeepers and researchers. A total of 149 taxa belonging to 125 genara and 48 families were recorded as pollen and nectary sources for honey bee colonies at Espiye (Giresun) region. Among the recorded taxa 58 were Phanerophytes, 57 taxa Hemicryptophytes, 19 taxa Therophytes, 13 taxa Cryptophytes and 2 taxa Chamaephytes. In the recent past, the forest area in Turkey has increased from 20.2 million/ ha to 22.3 million/ha between 1973 and 2015 (OGM, 2013-2015). Very recently, the Forest General Directorate has started to implementing the honey action plan to promote honey production and contribute to rural development (OGM, 2013-2015). As part of the action plan, up to 356 honey forests have been established and now, Turkey is in the second row in the world’s honey production and beekeeping.Turkey produces 92% of the world’s pine honey, specifically in its West Mediterranean and South Aegean regions. -
The Armenian Genocide
The Armenian Genocide During World War I, the Ottoman Empire carried out what most international experts and historians have concluded was one of the largest genocides in the world's history, slaughtering huge portions of its minority Armenian population. In all, over 1 million Armenians were put to death. To this day, Turkey denies the genocidal intent of these mass murders. My sense is that Armenians are suffering from what I would call incomplete mourning, and they can't complete that mourning process until their tragedy, their wounds are recognized by the descendants of the people who perpetrated it. People want to know what really happened. We are fed up with all these stories-- denial stories, and propaganda, and so on. Really the new generation want to know what happened 1915. How is it possible for a massacre of such epic proportions to take place? Why did it happen? And why has it remained one of the greatest untold stories of the 20th century? This film is made possible by contributions from John and Judy Bedrosian, the Avenessians Family Foundation, the Lincy Foundation, the Manoogian Simone Foundation, and the following. And others. A complete list is available from PBS. The Armenians. There are between six and seven million alive today, and less than half live in the Republic of Armenia, a small country south of Georgia and north of Iran. The rest live around the world in countries such as the US, Russia, France, Lebanon, and Syria. They're an ancient people who originally came from Anatolia some 2,500 years ago. -

Kayseri Carpets Tradition Kept Alive
INSTITUTE OF CURRENT WORLD AFFAIRS c/o American Express 15 Sharia Kasr El Nil Cairo, Egypt 14 January 198 KAYSERI CARPETS: TRADITION EPT ALIVE by Kenneth W. Cl Some 50 years ago, a woman from the central Anatolian city of Kayseri sat down at her loom and put the finishing touches to her creation. Into the dark red ari black geometry of her woo! carpet, she had woven a portrait-- herself in a chair holding a baby girl named Gl ("Rose,'' in Turkish). Along the border, she had added the inscription, Yaua _ok Gl._sen, "Gul , may you live a lon time.'' The art of this anonymous woman now hangs in a ayseri carpet shop. You won't find many carpets like it, no matter hew hard you lee. 01d carpets are scarce, being in great demand, and the new ones are mass produced according to standardized designs, leaving no teem for individual expression. Surely, someth.ing has been lest. But ._othe.r respects, modern Kayseri (pop. 315,000) continues "o maintain -key s 700-year- old tradition of producing fine, hand-made carpets. Of he 500,000 looms estimated to be active in the country, 40 percent are located in villages of the Kayser - i region, mak ing it Turk ey' s largest carpet-producing center. These looms produce wool, silk, and artificial silk carpets, all of them hand-knotted, utilizing a technique the Turkish peoples developed sometime before the 13th century (historians argue about exactly when and where the so-called ''pile rug, or carpet, was invented-- the evidence is unclear). -

Giresun Ili 2017 Yili Çevre Durum Raporu
T.C. GİRESUN VALİLİĞİ ÇEVRE VE ŞEHİRCİLİK İL MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ GİRESUN İLİ 2017 YILI ÇEVRE DURUM RAPORU HAZIRLAYAN GİRESUN ÇEVRE VE ŞEHİRCİLİK İL MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ GİRESUN - 2018 i BU VATAN, ÇOCUKLARIMIZ VE TORUNLARIMIZ İÇİN CENNET YAPILMAYA DEĞER. ii Tüm canlılar yeryüzüne geldiği andan itibaren önce çevresini tanır zamanla çevre ile etkileşime geçer.
