Prof. Dr. Ferdan Ergut June 2014, 294 pages One of the foundational origins of the Turkish Republic was the drastic change in the demographic composition of Anatolia following the Balkan Wars of 1912-1913 and World War I. This change was a result of factors such as the deportation of Armenians, the exchange of populations between Turkey and Greece and the high number of deaths in successive wars. All of them greatly altered the composition of the population. The change in the demographic composition of Turkey corresponded to a significant era in Turkish history: the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the establishment of the Turkish Republic as a nation state. Thus, this process of demographic transformation became significant in the socio-economic foundation of the new Republic. The present study aims to analyze the socio-economic impacts of this demographic change, especially Armenian deportation, on the sanjak of Kayseri. In this respect, it starts with an assumption that the characteristics of the local forces had a decisive role in the development of the process in the localities. The basic questions that this dissertation addresses are: How were the population policies of the Ottoman government, especially Armenian deportation, implemented in Kayseri? To what extent the local dynamics and factors, like the social and economic features of the city, and the character of the governors, shaped the execution of these policies? Finally what were the iv implications of this demographic transformation on the social and economic life of the inhabitants of Kayseri? Keywords: The Armenian Deportation, Abandoned Properties, Kayseri, Conversion to Islam v ÖZ BİR KENTİN DÖNÜŞÜMÜ: KAYSERİ’DE SAVAŞ, DEMOGRAFİK DEĞİŞİM VE VURGUNCULUK (1915-1920) Gözel Durmaz, Oya Doktora, Tarih Bölümü Tez Yöneticisi: Doç Dr. Ferdan Ergut Haziran 2014, 294 sayfa Balkan Savaşları ve Birinci Dünya Savaşı süresince yaşanan demografik dönüşüm Türkiye Cumhuriyeti’nin kurucu temellerinden biri olmuştur. The contributions of Oktay Özel and E. Attila Aytekin were particularly crucial in the development of this study. They were always ready to read the drafts and made constructive criticisms during the dissertation writing process. I am especially grateful to Oktay Özel for his encouragement and guidance throughout my research. Without his support and trust to me, this work would not come to an end. I would also want to thank Hilmar Kaiser who was very kindly directed me to research in the Prime Ministry Ottoman Archives. Without his encouragement, I could not begin a thesis based on archival research. He spent much time to improve my knowledge regarding the literature and never hesitated to answer my questions. He read the draft and made constructive criticisms to my study. I am also grateful to Kaan Durukan who read the draft and contributed greatly to the improvement of this dissertation with his comments and suggestions. I would also like to thank Bedross der Matossian, Talha Çiçek and Simon Payasliyan who have generously sent a copy of their studies to me. I wish to express my gratitude to The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey (TUBITAK) for supporting me with scholarship for five years. My name is Andre Altherr and I’ll be your Crisis Director for the Cabinet of Armenia: 1920 committee. I’m from New York City and am currently a Second Year at the University of Chicago majoring in History and Political Science. Despite once having a social life, I now spend my free-time on much tamer activities like reading 800-page books on Armenian history, reading 900-page books on Central European history, and relaxing with the best of Stephen King and 20th century sci-fi anthologies. When not reading, I enjoy hiking, watching Frasier, and trying to catch up on much needed sleep. I’ve helped run and participated in numerous Model UN conferences in both college and high school, and I believe that this activity has the potential to hone public speaking, develop your creativity and critical thinking, and ignite interest in new fields. Devin and I care very deeply about making this committee an inclusive space in which all of you feel safe, comfortable, and motivated to challenge yourself to grow as a delegate, statesperson, and human. We trust that you will conduct yourselves with maturity and tact when discussing sensitive subjects.

Dr. Bülent ATALAY* ÖZET Yunanistan, Mondros Mütarekesi’ne rağmen İzmir’i işgal etti. Asıl amaç İzmir’in Yunanistan’a bağlanmasını sağlamaktı. YÜZYILDA BİTLİS SANCAĞI VE İDARECİLERİ Bitlis Province and Its Governors In 18th Century Dr. Mehmet İNBAŞI* ÖZET Bitlis, Anadolu’da Müslüman Araplar müteakiben de Türkler tarafından erken fethedilen bölgelerden birisidir. Osmanlı hâkimiyetine girmesinde İdris-i Bitlisî’nin büyük rolü olmuştur. Doğuda bulunan Safevî Devleti’nin yayılmacı politikasına karşı tahkim edilen şehir, Osmanlı idaresine sadık olup bölgede etkili yerel aşiret ve kabilelerin idaresine verilmiş ve onlara hükümet statüsü altında farklı bir idare sistemi uygulanmıştır. Bu çalışmada, Bitlis sancağının idarî yapısı ile bölgede görev yapmış hanedanlar hakkında bilgiler verilmiştir. Anahtar kelimeler; Bitlis, Van Gölü havzası, sancak, hükümet sancaklar, XVIII. yüzyıl. ABSTRACT Bitlis is one of the early conquered places by Muslim Arabs and later Turks in Anatolia. After the Turkish-Islam dominance, significant religious and social developments took place in the city. İdris Bitlisi played an important role in order to put the city under the rule of Ottomans. Fortified against the imperial Safevids who are located in the east, the city always remained faithful to Ottomans and given under the rule of effective tribes and clans in the region by applying a different government system. In this study, information about the ruling system and about the dynasties is given. Keywords: Bitlis, Van Lake, Sandjak, Province, Governing provinces, 18th Century. uruluşu ve adının kökeni hakkında kesin bilgiler bulunmayan Bitlis, K Büyük İskender’e atfedilen bir efsaneye göre onun kumandanlarından Badlis tarafından inşa edilen kalenin etrafında kurulmuştur.

  • The Armenian Genocide
The Armenian Genocide During World War I, the Ottoman Empire carried out what most international experts and historians have concluded was one of the largest genocides in the world's history, slaughtering huge portions of its minority Armenian population. In all, over 1 million Armenians were put to death. To this day, Turkey denies the genocidal intent of these mass murders. My sense is that Armenians are suffering from what I would call incomplete mourning, and they can't complete that mourning process until their tragedy, their wounds are recognized by the descendants of the people who perpetrated it. People want to know what really happened. We are fed up with all these stories-- denial stories, and propaganda, and so on. Really the new generation want to know what happened 1915. How is it possible for a massacre of such epic proportions to take place? Why did it happen? And why has it remained one of the greatest untold stories of the 20th century? This film is made possible by contributions from John and Judy Bedrosian, the Avenessians Family Foundation, the Lincy Foundation, the Manoogian Simone Foundation, and the following. And others. A complete list is available from PBS. The Armenians. There are between six and seven million alive today, and less than half live in the Republic of Armenia, a small country south of Georgia and north of Iran. The rest live around the world in countries such as the US, Russia, France, Lebanon, and Syria. They're an ancient people who originally came from Anatolia some 2,500 years ago.

These looms produce wool, silk, and artificial silk carpets, all of them hand-knotted, utilizing a technique the Turkish peoples developed sometime before the 13th century (historians argue about exactly when and where the so-called ''pile rug, or carpet, was invented-- the evidence is unclear).

T.C. GİRESUN VALİLİĞİ ÇEVRE VE ŞEHİRCİLİK İL MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ GİRESUN İLİ 2017 YILI ÇEVRE DURUM RAPORU HAZIRLAYAN GİRESUN ÇEVRE VE ŞEHİRCİLİK İL MÜDÜRLÜĞÜ GİRESUN - 2018 i BU VATAN, ÇOCUKLARIMIZ VE TORUNLARIMIZ İÇİN CENNET YAPILMAYA DEĞER. ii Tüm canlılar yeryüzüne geldiği andan itibaren önce çevresini tanır zamanla çevre ile etkileşime geçer.
