Sam Heughan was hired to play the founder of Tennent’s Brewery, Hugh Tennent, in a 2010 advertisement campaign for Tennent’s 125th Anniversary. The ads were hilarious and so successful, that Sam continued to play Hugh in 2011 and 2012 ads.

In 2018, —the actor who played Barnes the butler in the Sam Heughan Tennent’s ads (becoming a personal friend of Sam)—was cast to play Governor William Tryon in Outlander Season 4, based on ’s 4th novel, Drums of Autumn.
