I thought this book did a good job of being an all things for all people so that from whichever path the Outlander lover followed to the companion they received something for it. A wonderful companion to the Outlander series full of synopses, explanations, discussions about sex and violence in writing, essays on her writing style and writing in general, information about costumes, cookery and herbs, maps and floor plans of relevant places, and a comprehensive annotated Gaidhlig glossary and pronunciation guide. Besides getting to read snippets from some of the books, there is a lot of interesting information about the Gaelic language, the making of the show and the medicine of the past vs today. This is a must read for any Outlander fan. It's in sections by book title so if you need a reminder about a character or place from a specific book, all you have to do is look up the book's title. I have multiple ones, all for favorite series that have a companion book out. Any additional comments? Claire and Frank, who spent the first seven years of their marriage separated by war, are on their second honeymoon in Scotland when the story begins. After visiting the sacred stones at Craigh na Dun, Claire is swept back in time to 1741 Scotland and encounters a band of Scottish Highlanders who abduct her to Castle Leoch, where she continues to care for one of their injured party, Jamie.     Diana Gabaldon in conversation [MUSIC PLAYING] SPEAKER: In advance of the opening of our major exhibition, Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobites, writer Diana Gabaldon visited the National Museum of Scotland to talk about her work. Hear her in conversation with fellow writer Lin Anderson as she discusses the origins of the best-selling series, Outlander, which revolves around the Jacobite challenges. Discover how she combines history and fiction in her novels, even bringing Bonnie Prince Charlie himself to life. [APPLAUSE] LIN ANDERSON: Well, your reaction when Diana came into the room was much the same as my own. When I got the email asking me to do this, I couldn't believe I could be as lucky. In 1998, my husband and I were in Venice, and at that time Marco Polo Airport was quite a small affair. It's got much bigger since then. And we were on their way back from a week, and my book was finished, and I thought, I wonder if they've got a book in the airport. It was a tiny little, almost a cupboard of a book shop, and I looked for the English language books, and there were six in a shelf. And there was this one called Cross Stitch, and actually what drew my eye first of all it was nice and thick. I thought, it will last me. And I pulled it down and I read the back of the book, and I thought somebody's written about Scotland. Wow! And I took the book with me, and I loved it.
