Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and other elected officials declare Bataan Day in the State of Illinois, City of Chicago and the Village of Skokie

The Philippine Consulate General in Chicago celebrated with the Filipino community and the Filipino and American veterans the 70th Commemoration of Bataan Day in Chicago.

Illinois Governor Pat Quinn issued Proclamation declaring 09 April 2012 as BATAAN DAY in Illinois, and encouraged all citizens to take a moment to honor and remember the men and women who suffered the hardships of enemy captivity while courageously serving their country.

Director Eric Salcedo, Ms. Nettie Lasko were joined by Consul General and Mrs. Leo Herrera-Lim in distributing the Attorney General’s Letter of Recognition to the Officers and Members of the Maywood Bataan Day Organization

Chicago City Mayor Rahm Emanuel likewise declares 09 April 2012 as BATAAN DAY IN CHICAGO and urge all Chicagoans to recognize the sacrifices and heroism made by American and Filipino veterans during the Second World War. Mayor George Van Dusen also proclaims 09 April as BATAAN DAY in the Village of Skokie (Illinois) and urge every resident to recognize the sacrifices and heroism made by the American and Filipino veterans during the Second World War.

Director William Schmutz presented to Consul General Leo M. Herrera-Lim the Proclamation on Bataan Day by City of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel In addition to the Proclamation of the Governor of the State of Illinois, Proclamations on “Bataan Day” are also issued by the Mayors of the City of Chicago and the Village of Skokie. Messages, letters of recognition and greetings are likewise received from Attorney General Lisa Madigan, Secretary of State Jesse White, Philippine Ambassador to Washington D.C. Jose L. Cuisia Jr., U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky, U.S. Senator and Assistant Majority Leader Richard J. Durbin, and Senator Mark Steven Kirk.
