Regional Qualifying

Regional Qualification Criteria:  8 athletes only for every event made up of the event winner of each zone including Wairarapa and the next best 4 performances. 2 further athletes will be named on standby to cover any withdrawals. o The 100m being the exception – 16 athletes made up of the 2 winners from each zone (including Wairarapa) and the next best 8 performances.  Athletes can compete in a maximum of 3 events- that is 2 track and 1 field or 2 field and 1 track (Plus Relay)  Other events such as Walk, Hammer, Pole-vault, Steeplechase , 300m Hurdles, 4x 400m if sufficient interest will be part of the Wellington Centre programme (details available from CSW)  All athletes are expected to compete in Zone meetings to qualify for participation in Regionals. Any extraordinary exemption request must be made to College Sport Wellington

Meeting Information

ALL OFFICIALS PLEASE READ – It is your responsibility to ensure your students are familiar with this information and understand the rules.

1. No students are to go outside the fenced area of Newtown Park during the day.

2. Competitors who do not compete in their registered uniform will be disqualified.

3. Unless competing, no students are allowed inside the fence area of the track.

4. Keep clear of the areas around the finish line to give judges and timekeepers an unobstructed view.

5. No students are allowed to walk across the centre of the track for safety reasons.

6. Finalists will be posted on noticeboard below the Grandstand and be announced on the public address system.

7. Entries are made on the CSW website by Friday 6 March. All Scratchings to be made to CSW by 12noon Monday 9 March. No late entries will be permitted.

8. Selection of finalists:

100m 2 heats First 4 places and fastest 1 3 heats First 3 places 4 heats First 2 places and fastest 1 9. Athletes must report to the marshalling areas 10 minutes prior to the event start time or as soon as your event is announced. Please remember that if you are competing in both a track and field event at the same time, the track event takes precedence but you should report in to the field judge to let them know that you intend to compete.

10. Electronic Timing: All Track events except 3000m will be timed using Athletics Wellington Photo Finishing Timing System.

11. All track events except 100m will be decided on finishing times.

12. Depending on size of field in some track events, e.g. 3000m, more than one grade may run at the same time.

13. All competitors will be given three attempts in field events. If time permits more attempts will be allowed only for the top six.

14. Up to three entries per school, per event, per age group. U14, U16 & U19 (as at 1st of January of the current calendar year.)

15. 3000m – Up to a maximum of 4 entries per school per age group

16. Each student may compete in a maximum of 3 events (2 track + 1 field or 1 track + 2 field) plus relay
