  • COMMUNITY NEWS April 2018
COMMUNITY NEWS April 2018 This community newsletter is sent out monthly on behalf of tawalink.com, Tawa’s community website since 2002. Other sources of online community information in Tawa: www.neighbourly.co.nz • www.facebook.com/VibrantTawa • www.facebook.com/tawacommunityboard YOUR CHANCE TO NOMINATE SOMEONE FOR OUR CIVIC AWARDS It’s good to say thank you! The Tawa Community Civic Awards allow us to publicly thank those in the Tawa community who volunteer in some way or another to improve the quality of life for the rest of us. Most of us know people who assist in sports clubs, schools, churches, or perhaps a community group. All you need to do is to forward their name and a few details of the community service they provide. In return the Tawa community will show its appreciation with a certificate which will be presented to them by the Mayor of Wellington at a special ceremony in early June. The Tawa Community 2016 nominees Board has run these awards every second year since 2006. Also included is the Tawa Rotary Young Employee Award. You can nominate online at www.wellington.govt.nz/rd/tawa (as from later this week). See more information, including the names of past nominees, at http://www.tawalink.com/tcca.html NEW TAWA COMMUNITY LIAISON GROUP Mandy Russell, Tawa Community Centre advocate, has sent out an invitation to local community representatives to attend the first meeting of the Tawa Community Liaison Group. “This is an exciting new initiative to encourage a variety of community groups, organisations and businesses to connect and network, share ideas, knowledge and resources, highlight any issues or opportunities, and keep each other ‘in the loop’ about things happening in your organisation.

  • Closing the Loop--Improving Energy Management in Schools. Energy Research Group Report. INSTITUTION Victoria Univ
DOCUMENT RESUME ED 286 274 EA 019 665 AUTHOR Isaacs, Nigel; Donn, Michael TITLE Closing the Loop--Improving Energy Management in Schools. Energy Research Group Report. INSTITUTION Victoria Univ. of Wellington (New Zealand). SPONS AGENCY New Zealand Dept. of Education, Wellington. PUB DATE Jul 87 NOTE 117p.; Portions of the appendices contain small. broken print. PUB TYPE Reports - Research/Technical (143) EDRS PRICE MF01/PC05 Plus Postage. DESCRIPTORS Computer Oriented Programs; *Cost Effectiveness; Databases; *Electronic Control; *Energy Audits; *Energy Conservation; *Energy Management; Foreign Countries; Fuel Consumption; *Heating; School Maintenance; Secondary Education; Utilities IDENTIFIERS *New Zealand ABSTRACT A study of the energy savings potential in New Zealand schools demonstrates that considerable reductions in energy costs can be achieved through energy management. An initial examination of available 1985 light, heat, and water expenditures for 268 secondary schools (84 percent of the secondary schools in New Zealand) is followed by the selection of a number of schools for detailed investigation and for action. Three Wellington and four Christchurch schools were monitored with electronic dataloggers during winter 1986, both before and after action had been taken to improve energy management. In all cases remedial work was cost-effective, with pay-back times of not more than 2 years and in some cases of a few months. Savings in heating fuel costs through improved management ranged from 30 percent to 50 percent, far exceeding original estimates. Techniques used included walk-through energy audits, replacement of timeclock boiler controls with self-adaptive optimum start/stop controllers, runhour meters, and repair of faulty controls. Recommendations for further action are given, and a basic approach to an improved energy management program for the Department of Education is outlined.

  • COMMUNITY NEWS June 2015
COMMUNITY NEWS June 2015 This community newsletter is sent out early each month on behalf of tawalink.com, Tawa’s community website which has been supported by the Tawa Residents’ Association since 2002. More regular community updates are available if you join more than 1660 other Tawa residents on neighbourly.co.nz. You can opt for daily updates or weekly updates from that site. ANOTHER LIQUOR OUTLET IN TAWA? You may already be aware of the proposal to set up a new liquor store where the fruit & vege shop used to be at 172 Main Road, Tawa. The applicant is wishing to sell liquor under the business name Tawa Liquor Centre every day from 9am to 11pm. For some people a further liquor outlet is not necessarily a big deal, and gaining a tenant for an otherwise empty shop is a distinct benefit. On the other hand, there have been various concerns raised on Neighbourly. Anyone is entitled to lodge a written objection if they have solid grounds for doing so. More information in this regard is set out on the WCC website at http://wellington.govt.nz/services/consents-and-licences/alcohol-licensing/ have-your-say-on-licence-applications/object-to-an-application You will need to give valid reasons for opposing the granting of a liquor license to this business. These may include: • the number of outlets already selling alcohol in Tawa • the proposed opening hours of the outlet • the location directly opposite the Salvation Army Centre which ministers to people with alcohol addictions If you do intend to lodge an objection, it should be sent to the Secretary of the District Licensing Committee at [email protected] by 5pm on Wednesday 24 June.
