Membership .............................. 6 A race is not an easy thing to put on, but Priest Lake is the longest running sled dog race in the Northwest and I, for one, would like to keep it that way. Jeanne February 2010 IESDA SLEDTRACKS page 2 IESDA Membership Meeting Wednesday Jan. 13, 2010 Golden Corral Members Present: Jeanne Arnold, Bob & Donna Daymude, Richard Hancock, Kim Jordan, Jim & Susie Mal- colm, Tom Palmer, Bob & Jill Wilson, Ann & Bob Yanecek, and guest Parry Branton 1. Minutes - were approved as written 2. Treasurer’s Report - Brendia reported that we have $2365 in the Checking Acct. and $4335 in the Savings Acct. for a total of $6700. 3. Priest Lake Race a. Permit - Brendia has acquired the permit b. Train Grooming - Brendia reported on the progress of repairs to the Cushman. It is expected we will have it ready in time to use for the race. Steve Duran’s 6- wheeler is waiting on parts and may not be available. Brendia will contact Hill’s Resort about getting grooming help from their groomer. c. Concessions - VFW will have their concession booth again this year. They will have food available for breakfast and lunch both days. d. T-shirts - The t-shirts have been printed and are in. e. Parking lot - Sackett excavation will clear the parking lot again this year. It is not expected to cost the club a much as last year. f. Sales Booth - Judy will be running the sales booth again this year. g. Auction & Silent Auction - Donna will call the auction. Donations for both are needed. h. PA System - Bob & Donna will bring the Malamute Club’s PA system. i. Timing - Brendia will be timer. She purchased a new stopwatch which has the ability to store up to 70 times. She will order a second one for the race. j. Gates and Fencing - We have plenty of fencing and do not need new material. Some is stored at the Booth’s and some at the Heintzelman’s. Jim will pick up more lath stakes. Bob D. volunteered to be in charge of gates. k. Outhouses - Brendia will order l. Race Marshall - Richard has volunteered to be Race Marshall m. Contingency planning for poor snow - The course will be evaluated the weekend before the race. A decision will be made by Monday, Feb. 1 whether the course is usable. We don’t need to spend any money clearing the parking lot until we know whether the race is on. Brendia will contact the VFW and make sure they don’t order any food until we are sure we are going to have the race. o. DVD - Jeanne has a friend who will do a DVD of the race.     GREAT LAKES SLED DOG ASSOCIATION The Great Lakes Sled Dog Association (GLSDA) invites you to experience a winter like never before! Mushers from across the US and Canada will travel to participate in multiple sled dog races right here in Northern Michigan. Please join us for a fun-filled season of happy dogs and friendly competition. Don’t forget your camera! GLSDA races are open to the public. Spectators are encouraged to meet the dogs and drivers, watch the teams run, and learn about sled dog racing. Contact us for more info! GLSDA.com [email protected] GLSDA mushers compete in everything from skijoring with one dog to running teams as large as . 10 dogs! Teams run the same trail twice – once on Saturday and once on Sunday. The times are added together to determine the final placement within each class. And, yes, the dogs love it! Like any athlete, they’re conditioned regularly so performing at their best on race day is a walk in Siberian Husky: a purebred dog that visually the park. fits a set standard. They all look very similar because they’ve been bred for decades to maintain a specific look. Alaskan Husky: a type of dog made from combining multiple other types of dogs to increase athletic ability. These dogs vary greatly in appearance – sometimes siblings don’t even look alike. Eurohound: a broad term used to describe dogs crossed with pointer breeds, as the idea originated in Europe. These dogs have shorter coats than the rest and often have floppy ears from their pointer lineage.
