  • A Review of Famous Songs of the Past 'Fascinating Facts' July 2020
A Review of Famous Songs of the Past ‘Fascinating Facts’ July 2020 Track 1 It’s Now Or Never A song recorded by Elvis Presley in 1960. The melody of the song is adapted from the Italian 'O Sole Mio", but the inspiration for it came from the song, "There's No Tomorrow" recorded by U.S. singer, Tony Martin, in 1949. In the late 1950s, while stationed in Germany with the U.S. Army, Presley heard Martin's recording. He told his music publisher about the song. He found songwriters, Schroeder and Gold, who wrote the lyrics in half an hour. Selling more than 20 million records, the song became number one in countries all around the world and was Presley's best selling single ever and it was written in half an hour! Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977) was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is commonly known by the single name Elvis. He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King". Born in Tupelo, Mississippi, Presley moved to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family at the age of 13. He began his career there in 1954, working with Sun Records owner Sam Phillips, who wanted to bring the sound of African American music to a wider audience. His energized interpretations of songs, many from African American sources, and his uninhibited performance style made him enormously popular—and controversial. In November 1956, he made his film debut in Love Me Tender.

Song Exploder Sparks - This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us Episode 211 Hrishikesh: You’re listening to Song Exploder, where musicians take apart their songs and piece by piece tell the story of how they were made. My name is Hrishikesh Hirway. (“This Town Ain’t Big Enough for Both of Us” by SPARKS) Russell: We're big, uh, cinema buffs, so I think we've always had this kind of rationale that in making pop songs, you're able to make the most elaborate movie in your own mind in a three-minute song. Hrishikesh: That’s Russell Mael. He and his brother Ron Mael are the legendary duo, Sparks, from Los Angeles. Over the last 50 years, they’ve released 25 albums. They’ve collaborated with Giorgio Moroder and Franz Ferdinand, and influenced bands like Joy Division, Faith No More, Björk, and countless others. There’s a new documentary about them called The Sparks Brothers made by one of my favorite directors, Edgar Wright. His films include Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Baby Driver, and Scott Pilgrim vs the World. The new documentary premiered at Sundance this year, and comes out in theaters this Friday, June 18th. Here’s what Edgar Wright says in the intro of the film. Edgar: Sparks. How did this glam rock anomaly become a band with a career spanning 5 decades? How can Ron and Russell Mael be successful, underrated, hugely influential and overlooked all at the same time? And where does one even start with 25 studio albums and nearly 500 songs? Hrishikesh: We’re gonna start with just one song.

This pdf was last updated: Nov/04/2010. Spencer Davis Group With an outstanding line-up and a splendid mix of new originals, old hits and classic songs the legendary pop group and forerunner of British Invasion are back on tour. Line-up Spencer Davis - guitar, vocals Miller Anderson - guitar, vocals Eddie Hardin - organ, vocals Colin Hodgkinson - bass, vocals Steff Porcel - drums On Stage: 5 Travel Party: 6 Website www.spencer-davis-group.com Biography Wales-born guitarist, harmonica player and vocalist Spencer Davis became one of the elder statesmen of mid-1960s British rock. Together with his group, the Spencer Davis Band, which he formed in Birmingham in 1963, he scored with chart-topping hits, "Keep On Running" and "Somebody Help Me", in the UK and top ten hits, "Gimme Good Lovin'" and "I'm A Man", in the United States. The band, which featured teenaged Stevie Winwood on vocals, guitar and organ, his brother, Muff Winwood on bass and Peter York on drums, continued to mix commercial pop tunes and blues-inspired R&B until the Winwoods departed in 1967. After briefly sharing a duo with guitarist Alun Davies, he moved to California in 1970. Remaining active as a musician, he recorded a solo album that quickly went out of print, formed a new blues-pop band, Davis, York, Hardin and Fenwick in 1973 and an acoustic blues band with Richard Landis and Peter Jameson. For much of the remainder of the 1970s and early-80s, Davis worked behind the scenes. After working as a consultant for a California video company, he worked as an independent producer and publicist for Island Records, where he helped to guide the early careers of Robert Palmer and Bob Marley, and served as head of A & R for a small Hollywood-based independent label.

This three-CD box is a beautifully packaged collection from 1984, 1985, and 1988, with the CDs pressed on black and resembling mini-LPs, even with grooves painted on the face. What the box fails to note is that all three of these live albums have been previously released with the same titles, although under different artists' names. And that aspect of the project muddies the waters for the fans -- and even for York himself. Disc one is from October 1, 1984, and features 14 tracks titled Live Together with Spencer Davis and Colin Hodgkinson Available On: participating.
