Media Release: Thursday 18 th November ROXY MUSIC TO PLAY A DAY ON THE GREEN WITH ORIGINAL LINE UP INCLUDING THE LEGENDARY BRYAN FERRY With support from Nathan Haines Roundhouse Entertainment and Andrew McManus Presents is proud to announce that Roxy Music, consisting of vocalist Bryan Ferry, guitarist Phil Manzanera, saxophonist Andy Mackay and the great Paul Thompson on drums, are coming to New Zealand for one A Day On The Green show only at Villa Maria Estate Winery on Sunday 6 th March. Roxy Music will perform material from their entire catalogue including such hits as, Dance Away , Avalon , Let's Stick Together, Take A Chance With Me , Do the Strand , Angel Eyes , Oh Yeah , In the Midnight Hour , Jealous Guy, Love Is The Drug , More Than This and many more. Distinguished by their visual and musical sophistication and their preoccupation with style and glamour Roxy Music were highly influential, as leading proponents of the more experimental element of glam rock as well as a significant influence on early English punk music. They also provided a model for many new wave acts and the experimental electronic groups of the early 1980s. In 2004, Rolling Stone Magazine ranked Roxy Music on its list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time and the band are regarded as one of the most influential art-rock bands in music history. Roxy Music exploded onto the scene in 1972 with their progressive self-titled debut album. The sound challenged the constraints of pop music and was lauded by critics and popular among fans, peaking at #4 on the UK album charts. -
And Report 133.Pdf
AND 133 Report říjen 2019 Dnes jen telegraficky, abych hned stihl rozeslat tyto novinky a naladil Vás na netrpělivě očekávané koncerty Martina Barre dnes, zítra a pozítří v ČR. Takže si užijte čtení a večer i muziku! -

PERFORMANCES IN SWING: A CULTURAL HISTORY OF WOMEN SINGERS OF BIG BANDS, 1930s-1950s A DISSERTATION SUBMITTED TO THE GRADUATE DIVISION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF HAWAI'I AT MĀNOA IN PARTIAL FULFILLMENT OF THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DEGREE OF DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY IN AMERICAN STUDIES AUGUST 2018 By Jeanette Hall Dissertation Committee: Mari Yoshihara, Chairperson Elizabeth Colwill Jonna Eagle Vernadette V. Gonzalez Richard C. Rath Keywords: big band, singer, jazz studies, music history, intersectionality, performance Acknowledgements This dissertation could not have come to fruition without the help and support of many people. First, I would like to thank Mari Yoshihara for her guidance and mentorship in many capacities throughout my graduate career. She challenged me to think deeply and critically about music and storytelling. I would also like to thank Elizabeth Colwill, who expanded my thinking in the realm of performance studies and who always offered support and enthusiasm for my projects. My gratitude also extends to Jonna Eagle who gave feedback from near and far. Thank you to Richard C. Rath for his guidance and encouragement with my projects, and for always reminding me to keep listening to the sounds of the music. Thank you to Vernadette Gonzalez for her feedback and mentorship, and for her encouragement in those moments when writing a dissertation felt like “running uphill in the rain.” I would also like to express my gratitude to the American Studies department at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa for the institutional support. Many, many thanks to my writing group—Eriza Bareng, Yu Jung Lee, Kevin Lim, Yanli Luo, Sanae Nakatani, Stacy Nojima, Yuka Polovina, and Yohei Sekiguchi—who gave much support and feedback throughout the writing process. -
Explore the Neo Naturists
The Neo Naturists 8 July – 28 August 2016 The Neo Naturists are a performance art group founded in 1981 by Christine Introduction Binnie, Jennifer Binnie and Wilma Johnson. The group emerged from a subculture – connected with but not limited to the New Romantic club scene – which developed in London against a backdrop of intense eco- nomic, political and social change. In the aftermath of punk, and at the advent of the rise of Thatcherism, a vigorous creative energy developed in the UK which sat outside of mainstream culture, creating its own network of agents, economies, activities and events. The Neo Naturists were a part of a wide constellation of diverse cultural figures and sometime collaborators, which included BodyMap (David Holah & Stevie Stewart), James Birch, Leigh Bowery, Jill Bruce, Michael Clark, David Dawson, Peter Doig, Simon Foxton, Boy George, Derek Jarman, Princess Julia, Bruce Lacey, Andrew Logan, Marilyn, John Maybury, Maia Norman, Grayson Perry, Psychic TV, Philip Sallon, Test Department, Jill Westwood, Dencil Williams and Cerith Wyn Evans. We used to go to nightclubs and do performances wearing body paint. Sometimes the performance would be the act of painting each other, sometimes we’d have the paint on already. All the people around us were Blitz Kids doing all that post-punk stuff when it was very trendy to be thin, po-faced and have perfect make-up. We could never really manage that. We were always red and shiny and smiling, and a bit too fat. So we did the opposite and painted ourselves, got i Christine Binnie interviewed by messy and had fun.i Suzanne Cotter, 8 June 2009, Michael Clark, Violette Editions, 2011 The group was established organically. -
