Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday, October 15, Francis canonized 35 new . These 35 are called the "Martyrs of Natal," . This group consists of 30 , laymen and children who were killed in 1645 during a wave of anti-Catholic persecution; and the "Child Martyrs of Tlaxcala," who were three children who were among Mexico's first native converts killed for refusing to renounce the faith; and St. Angelo da Acri, an Italian Sunday Readings Capuchin known for his defense of the poor, and St. Faustino Miguez, a Spanish priest who started an advanced school for girls at a October 22, 2017 time when such education was limited almost exclusively to boys. You 1st Reading: 45:1, 4-6 know, here in the parish, we talk a lot about the saints, especially during the week on 2nd Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:1-5b their feast day, because the examples of the saints are such great inspiration to us. Gospel: Matthew 22:15-21 The lives of the saints can inspire us to live heroic lives as they did. As these martyrs October 29, 2017 refused to deny their faith in Brazil during Christian persecution, shouldn't we do the 1st Reading: Exodus 22:20-26 same in our time. Maybe we are not facing death, like they did, but we are certainly 2nd Reading: 1 Thessalonians 1:5c-10 facing Christian persecution in our often non-Christian world of today. So we say, stay Gospel: Matthew 22:34-40 firm in the faith and grow stronger in the faith. The world needs good saintly example, that you can give. During the Mass homily said that without a loving Parish Staff relationship with God, Christian life can become empty and "an impossible ethic, a Father Lowell Will, Pastor collection of rules and laws to obey for no good reason." He continued, "This is the Email: [email protected] danger: a Christian life that becomes routine, content with 'normality', without drive or Rev. Mr. Thomas Lambert, Deacon enthusiasm, and with a short memory." This is why we continue to stress that we Email: [email protected] pray, come to Mass, live our faith radically in our world of today, because we need to Youth Music Minister, Position is Open go one step further and so to build a love relationship with Jesus then just getting Mrs. Kristin Maurer Brenner, Pianist worship over and obeying the rules of the Church. This is a wonderful preparation for Mrs. Debbie Pounds, Organist the coming feast of All Saints. Let us also become saints !!!! Mrs. Katie Vollmer, DRE Thanks for another successful Fall Raffle -- Our total income was $22,050, and Email: [email protected] expenses were $7,864. So the profit was $14,186. This is a great benefit to our Maggie Phillips, CRE, Sacraments Building Fund. We would liked to have made a little more, but due to everything Ph: 897-2606 else going on in the parish, I think this was a tremendous success. So again thanks to Janet Hirsch, CRE, Gr. 7-12 all who bought and sold tickets. As we said, even if you didn't win the cash prizes, Email: [email protected] we are all winners by your participation and willing spirit, and by benefitting Mary Ann Miles, RCIA, Pastoral Ministry our Building Fund. This continuous our parish growth and unifies our parish. Email: [email protected] Stewards of God's Grace Diocesan Capital Campaign -- Our volunteers are Barbara Forehand Carter, Administrative continuing to make their visits -- or you can make arrangements to meet in the Parish Email: [email protected] Assistant Hall or even before or after Mass, whatever is convenient to both of you. You can bring your donation to the Social Hall at St. Shirley Byrd, Custodian-StC Clement or the Parish Hall at St. Rupert today. This was very convenient for Ph: 431-4772 parishioners last Sunday. We may plan another one or two of these. The schedule Denice Martin, Custodian & Hall within the Campaign calls for a Sign-up in the Pews for November 11 for those who Ph: 853-5726 Coordinator-StR received no information or pledge card. We may do this or not. Things seem to be Ed & Ginny Shields, Sacristans-StR going rather smoothly. We may not reach the goal the diocese set for us, but your Ph: 853-3291 generosity continues to inspire me. Remember 50 % of the income that comes in, comes back to us. We will use that to reduce the loan from the diocese for the Parish Council building of our new church. This should help us a great deal. All Souls Day Services -- Next Sunday, October 29. Each Service consists of the Father Lowell Will, President [email protected] rosary, prayers for the deceased, especially for the ones who died during the last Tom Beckman,Ch [email protected] year, and a short litany.
