16 • GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF AMERICA • 2021 TROPHIES We are excited to present the trophies for the 2021 GRCA National Specialty. The Tier trophies are custom designed stained-glass pieces depicting what our beloved breed does best. Our first-place trophies are a laser etched box and pen; and our second through fourth place trophies are themed hand painted china ornaments.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS DIANE BLASIUS Diane Blasius, owner of Mungo Works, has created many trophies for Golden Retrievers, using Tiffany style-stained glass, painted porcelain and tiles, and sculpture. Prior to starting Mungo Works, Blasius worked as a book and magazine illustrator for publishing companies. She works in watercolor and pigment-colored pencils to create fine pet portraits on commission, and has created logos for Nationals, as well as artwork for Field Spaniel Yearbook covers. Diane Blasius and her husband showed and bred their Field Spaniels for many years until Mungo Works was born in 2009. Her work has been collected internationally and was featured a number of times in Dog Gone Art Magazine, a digital magazine. She is delighted to be selected again to create trophies for this Golden Retriever National.

ROGER KIBBEE Roger Kibbee formerly was the artist for Laura Rogers Designs. He is an award-winning wildlife artist; however, Kibbee is most known in the AKC dog show world for his outstanding canine art. All of his artwork begins with acrylic, watercolor or pen and ink, and the finished work is then used in screen printing or laser engraving on high quality garments, wood and gemstones. Currently, they offer designs for more than 120 AKC Dog Breeds.

KATHY ZIMMERMAN Kathy Taylor Zimmerman of Snook Z Graphics is a free-lance illustrator and designer in St. Petersburg, Florida offering original art, illustration, advertising and much more. She specializes in whimsical designs in wood, glass and bisque and is well versed in both animal and marine wildlife. Born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida, Zimmerman is an 8-year cancer survivor and lives with her husband, John, of almost 40 years in their St. Petersburg home. She enjoys spending time with her two grandsons, playing with her Dachshund, Sophie, who thinks she is a Golden Retriever and working in her garden. 2021 • GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF AMERICA • 25 2021 GRCA NATIONAL SPECIALTY GROOMING RESERVATION FORM

Grooming reservations that were made for the 2020 National Specialty are being carried over for the 2021 National Specialty. However, if you did request a refund over the summer, you will need to resubmit your request. Download Grooming Reservation Form

Important Dates Reservations Open: February 1, 2021 Cancellation Deadline without Penalty: September 15, 2021 Grooming stalls will be available starting October 24, 2021. Free Grooming Areas: Free grooming areas will be available with NO electric. Set ups in free grooming will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Set ups must be removed daily at the conclusion of judging. Since free grooming will not be inside stalls, there is a limit of 4 dogs at each free grooming site.

Reserved Grooming Stalls: 160+ indoor grooming stalls in 3 brand-new, climate-controlled grooming buildings. Each stall is equipped with state-of-the-art wall to wall anti-fatigue matting and a built- in overhead fan. The stalls are 12’ x 14’ with one 20-amp electrical circuit. Please bring your own extension cords.

Bathing areas with hot and cold water are located indoors at the end of designated rows of stalls. Please bring your own shampoo and towels. If you would like grooming stalls next to or across from a friend, you will need to send your reservations together and specify your request on both forms. If you are sharing a grooming space, you will need to list the names of those who are sharing with you. All names will be listed on a master roster which will be posted. Pursuant to WEC rules, which are mandated by the USDAA, fire marshal and emergency evacuation code requirements, there can be no more than 8 dogs in a stall and no more than 2 grooming tables in each stall. Shavings and x-pens are not allowed inside the grooming building. Individuals using any grooming space must sign a liability waiver.

Regarding the 20-amp electrical circuits: If you are sharing space, two dryers can usually be run together at 20 amps, but both dryers should not be started at the same time, since their simultaneous initial (start-up) draw would probably exceed 20 amps. Please check your dryers running amperage and make sure you and your partner will be able to run your dryers together without exceeding 20 amps. WEC will provide one free reset per blown circuit NOTE: there will be a $30 charge for subsequent resetting of the same circuit thereafter. There are to be no electric appliances in the grooming stalls i.e., no coffee pots, microwaves, toasters, etc. If your grooming tables do not have rubber caps on the legs and your tables cut into the new floor matting, you will be responsible for the cost of repairs to the surface. 2021 • GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF AMERICA • 31 NON-REGULAR CLASSES (INVOLVING MULTIPLE DOG ENTRIES) Note: Non-regular classes involving multiple entries may be judged before or after Best of Breed. As the judge’s decision in these classes will be based on the merits of more than one dog, no one of the dogs making up the entry judged first in the class will be eligible to compete for Best of Breed or Best of Opposite Sex to Best of Breed by virtue of having won the class. STUD DOG CLASS AND BROOD BITCH CLASS: Each entry is allowed two get unless otherwise specified. The merits of the Stud Dog or Brood Bitch are not considered in the placement of the entry. It is the quality of the get that forms the basis for the judge’s decision. All get must be examined and gaited. The Stud Dog or Brood Bitch must also be examined to determine if there is a condition that would require disqualification or excusal under the Rules, AKC policy or the breed standard. All get must be entered in a regular class in order to be eligible to compete in the Stud Dog or Brood Bitch Class. Handlers of the Stud Dog or Brood Bitch, and all get being exhibited, must wear armbands. Ch. 11, Sec. 8 of the “Rules Applying to Dog Shows” provides that “a castrated male may be entered as a Stud Dog in the Stud Dog Class and a spayed bitch may be entered as a Brood Bitch in the Brood Bitch Class. SWEEPSTAKES & VETERAN SWEEPSTAKES TUESDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2021, ALL DAY GRCA SWEEPSTAKES GUIDELINES The mission of the GRCA Sweepstakes is to provide a competition where breeders and owners can showcase their puppies and veterans. It was established to encourage owner/handlers to show their own dogs and to share the results of their breeding program, the potential of their young dogs and the longevity and structural soundness of their veterans with other breeders and exhibitors. ALL SWEEPSTAKES CLASSES INCLUDING VETERANS AND BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES HANDLER: The handler of a Sweepstakes exhibit must be either the owner, co-owner, breeder or member of their immediate family as they are listed on file with the American Kennel Club as of the closing date for the show for which the Sweepstakes entry is being made. Immediate family is defined as husband, wife, mother, father, brother, sister, son, daughter, or legal domestic partner. Stepchildren and legal wards are also included in this definition. In-laws and grandchildren are not considered to be immediate family members. No other individual may take the entry into the ring during judging or check-in. The following individuals are excluded from showing an exhibit in sweepstakes unless they are the sole owner registered with the AKC or co-own the entry with a member of their immediate family (as defined above) or a legal domestic partner: • Any individual listed as an agent on any dog in any regular or non-regular class at this or any other show in the previous two years. • Any individual with an Agent number including, but not limited to an AKC Registered Handler Number or Professional Handlers Association (PHA) number. To avoid confusion or question, it is recommended that a photocopy of the registration certificate be included with the entry for a co-owned exhibit. Disabled or physically challenged handlers are encouraged to show their own dogs and every effort will be made to accommodate them. Some things which might be done to assist them are: making sure the ring gate opening is wide enough for a wheel chair; making sure the surface is as level and smooth as possible; placing slower handlers at the end of the line or having them gait their dogs together; allowing someone else to push an exhibitor’s wheelchair, providing they do not handle the dog; making sure stewards and judges face a handler who is hearing impaired when speaking to them; permitting the use of crutches or canes.

32 • GOLDEN RETRIEVER CLUB OF AMERICA • 2021 BEST IN SWEEPSTAKES CLASSES: It is required that the same person who showed the dog to a first place in a Sweepstakes class will also show the dog in the Best in Sweeps class. However, if that person should have more than one dog in the Best in Sweepstakes class, someone else is permitted to show the additional winner. That person should meet the handler definitions above. Only in cases where there is not another owner, co-owner, breeder, co-breeder or immediate family member available, should another person take the dog into the Best in Sweeps class. It is understood that there would be no financial benefit to that individual. Individuals who have an AKC Handler number, a PHA number or are listed as agent on any dog in the regular or non-regular classes may not show a sweepstakes entrant unless they are the sole owner registered with the AKC or co-own the entry with a member of their immediate family (as defined above) or a legal domestic partner.
