Southern Route From Split(Kl3) (departures on 07 June and 23 August 2014) Route: SPLIT – OMIŠ/PUČIŠĆA – KORČULA – LASTOVO – Ravnik (Green cave) – KOMIŢA/VIS – Biševo (Blue cave) – STARIGRAD – BOL – SPLIT Saturday SPLIT – OMIŠ/PUČIŠĆA Departure from Split at 13:00h followed by a lunch on board and a swim break. Continue to Omiš or Pučišća on Brač island. Omiš is a picturesque town surrounded with steep rocky mountain cliffs, where the river Cetina flows into the Adriatic sea. Here you can experience Cetina river rafting or Cetina Canyon zipline, climb to the old fortress above the town, play volleyball on the beach or simply take a walk through the old town of Omiš and discover the glorious long history through the many historical monuments. Pučišća is a typical Mediterranean place, situated on the northern side of the Brač island at the bottom of the deep bay. It is cradle of the world‟s famous stone of Brač. There is a possibility of visiting a stone-masonry workshop, one of the few stone masonry workshops left in Europe. Enjoy the domestic food, wine and famous olive oil of this coastal village. Overnight in the port of Pučišća. Sunday OMIŠ/PUČIŠĆA – KORČULA By the time you reach the deck in the morning, Omiš/Pučišća will already be behind us. After a morning swim in the crystal blue sea, we cruise toward Korčula; the birthplace of Marco Polo. Lunch will be served either on the tip of the Pelješac peninsula (near Lovište) or in the quiet bay of Kneža on Korčula. Afternoon arrival in Korčula for sightseeing of this exceptional town. According to legend Korčula was found by Trojan hero Anthenor in the 12th century B.C. On this island you can find more legends, tales and monuments than anywhere else. In the evening we recommend you visit one of numerous konobas or enjoy the stunning views of the mailand from the numerous cafes and bars. Overnight in Korčula. Monday KORČULA – LASTOVO As a prelude to more cruising we suggest a short walk through the open market in Korčula where you can buy fresh fruit to enjoy during the day. We continue our cruise towards Lastovo, the furthest, inhabited island in Dalmatia, which Romans called the Imperial island. Docked in Ubli port, one has the opportunity to visit the protected Nature Park or visit the biggest town on the island – Lastovo. The Island is surrounded by many smaller islands, with plenty of secluded bays suitable for snorkeling, but also known for many little churches and unusually shaped chimneys. Overnight in Lastovo. Tuesday LASTOVO – Ravnik (Green cave) – KOMIŢA/VIS Early morning departure towards Vis island, which was closed to tourists for many years. Vis was, because of its unique geographical position, a strategic harbour for the navy. Because of this isolation, Vis has a special charm of the „Mediterranean as it once was‟ which makes it really interesting to see. Near Vis, there is the little Ravnik island, where the Green cave is situated. It was named after the unusual light that reflects in the sea from the hole on the top of the cave. After a short swim, depending on the weather conditions, we sail further to the town of Komiža or Vis for overnight. Komiža is a typical Mediterranean place on the western part of the island, where the fishery on the eastern part of the Adriatic coast began. Enjoy the walk through the narrow alleys and rich heritage, or maybe on one of the pebble beaches with fresh water springs, that stretch along the whole eastern side of the Komiža bay. The town of Vis is situated on the northern side of the island and it was developed near the remains of the ancient Issa, first urban centre in Croatia, formed by the Greeks in 4th century B.C. Visit the remains of the Roman Baths, City museum or take a walk enjoying the view on the beautiful Villae Rusticae situated along the coast. Wednesday KOMIŢA/VIS – Biševo (Blue cave) – STARIGRAD Early in the morning we cruise towards the little Biševo island to visit the Blue cave, a magnificent natural phenomenon. As sometimes weather conditions can be very unpredictable, the possibility of our visit will depend on those conditions, however you will be notified of this by the crew. After a short visit to Komiža/Vis town, we continue towards Stari Grad on the Hvar island, the sunniest Adriatic island. Free afternoon to explore this unique town. The famous Stari Grad Field is the oldest in Croatia and the best preserved example of ancient Greek system of agriculture. Together with the old town it is a part of world heritage protected by UNESCO. Thursday STARIGRAD - BOL After breakfast we cruise towards the beautiful Brač island and the famous town of Bol. Swimming is planned at the most famous beach in Dalmatia – Zlatni Rat (the Golden Horn - its gravel promontory shifts from side to side as the wind and waves constantly change in shape).

  • DESERTMED a Project About the Deserted Islands of the Mediterranean
DESERTMED A project about the deserted islands of the Mediterranean The islands, and all the more so the deserted island, is an extremely poor or weak notion from the point of view of geography. This is to it’s credit. The range of islands has no objective unity, and deserted islands have even less. The deserted island may indeed have extremely poor soil. Deserted, the is- land may be a desert, but not necessarily. The real desert is uninhabited only insofar as it presents no conditions that by rights would make life possible, weather vegetable, animal, or human. On the contrary, the lack of inhabitants on the deserted island is a pure fact due to the circumstance, in other words, the island’s surroundings. The island is what the sea surrounds. What is de- serted is the ocean around it. It is by virtue of circumstance, for other reasons that the principle on which the island depends, that the ships pass in the distance and never come ashore.“ (from: Gilles Deleuze, Desert Island and Other Texts, Semiotext(e),Los Angeles, 2004) DESERTMED A project about the deserted islands of the Mediterranean Desertmed is an ongoing interdisciplina- land use, according to which the islands ry research project. The “blind spots” on can be divided into various groups or the European map serve as its subject typologies —although the distinctions are matter: approximately 300 uninhabited is- fluid. lands in the Mediterranean Sea. A group of artists, architects, writers and theoreti- cians traveled to forty of these often hard to reach islands in search of clues, impar- tially cataloguing information that can be interpreted in multiple ways.

  • Herpetofaunistic Diversity of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago (Croatian Adriatic)
University of Sopron Roth Gyula Doctoral School of Forestry and Wildlife Management Sciences Ph.D. thesis Herpetofaunistic diversity of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago (Croatian Adriatic) Tamás Tóth Sopron 2018 Roth Gyula Doctoral School of Forestry and Wildlife Management Sciences Nature Conservation Program Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Faragó Sándor Dr. Gál János Introduction In recent years the Croatian islands, especially those of the Cres-Lošinj Archipelago became the focus of research of herpetologists. However, in spite of a long interest encompassing more than a hundred years, numerous gaps remain in our herpetological knowledge. For this reason, the author wished to contribute to a better understanding by performing studies outlined below. Aims The first task was to map the distribution of amphibians and reptiles inhabiting the archipelago as data were lacking for several of the smaller islands and also the fauna of the bigger islands was insufficiently known. Subsequently, the faunistic information derived from the scientific literature and field surveys conducted by the author as well as available geological and paleogeological data were compared and analysed from a zoogeographic point of view. The author wished to identify regions of the islands boasting the greatest herpetofaunal diversity by creating dot maps based on collecting localities. To answer the question which snake species and which individuals are going to be a victim of the traffic snake roadkill and literature survey were used. The author also identified where are the areas where the most snakes are hit by a vehicle on Cres. By gathering road-killed snakes and comparing their locality data with published occurrences the author seeked to identify species most vulnerable to vehicular traffic and road sections posing the greatest threat to snakes on Cres Island.

  • Hrvatski Jadranski Otoci, Otočići I Hridi
Hrvatski jadranski otoci, otočići i hridi Sika od Mondefusta, Palagruţa Mjerenja obale istoĉnog Jadrana imaju povijest; svi autori navode prvi cjelovitiji popis otoka kontraadmirala austougarske mornarice Sobieczkog (Pula, 1911.). Hidrografski institut JRM, Split, 1955. 2 T. Duplanĉić Leder, T. Geoadria Volumen 8/2 87-130 Zadar, 2003. POVIJESNO-GEOGRAFSKA OBILJEŽJA ŽUTSKO-SITSKE OTOČNE SKUPINE1 AMOS RUBE FILIPI UDK: 908(497.5-37 Šibenik)(210.7) Stručni članak Professional paper Primljeno: 2003-06-24 Received: Rad o hrvatskim jadranskim otocima Žutu i Situ i pripadajućim otocima obuhvaća analizu osnovnih geografskih (geomorfoloških, klimatskih, biogeografskih, ekonomsko-geografskih, antropogeografskih) obilježja ovog dijela kornatske otočne skupine u zadarskom arhipelagu. Ključne riječi: otok Žut, otok Sit, Kornati, otok Murter, Sali, Zadar, geografska obilježja The paper about Croatian Adriatic islands Žut and Sit and their pertaining islets comprehends the analysis of basic geographic (geomorphologic, climatic, biogeographic, economic-geographic, anthropogeographic) characteristics of this part of Kornati insular group in the archipelago of Zadar. Special attention is paid to historical-geographical archival materials and to data about exploiting and colonization of these islands. Total land area makes 19.2 km2 (28.3% land surface of Kornati). Nowadays without permanent population, this insular group had significance of pasture, olive growing and fishing zone in millenary evaluation and exploitation, which was carried out by proprietary families from Zadar and, in the recent centuries, by islanders from Murter and other neighbouring islands.

  • Socio-Geographic Transformation of Ist Island, Croatia
Geoadria Volumen 8/2 67-86 Zadar, 2003. SOCIO-GEOGRAPHIC TRANSFORMATION OF IST ISLAND, CROATIA ANICA ČUKA UDC: 911.3(497.5 Ist) DAMIR MAGAŠ Original scientific paper Dept. of Geography, University of Zadar Izvorni znanstveni članak Odjel za geografiju, Sveučilište u Zadru Primljeno: 2003-10-09 Received: Ist Island is one of the small inhabited Croatian islands (9.65 km2) which experienced strong socio-geographic transformation in the second half of the 20th century. Statistical data about the number of population, different demographic structures, dwellings from different censuses and data about land use in 1900, 1951 and 2003 are analysed in the paper. The comparison of these data helps to reconstruct the processes of deruralization and deagrarisation. It is obvious that today Ist Island is among islands with strong economic regress despite suitable natural- geographic basis for further development of tourism as the most perspective economic sector. The development of agriculture is limited because of the small share of arable land.

Obala kralja Petra Krešimira IV., 2 23000 Zadar, Hrvatska e-mail: [email protected] toci Ilovik i Sv. Petra, a sukladno tome i razvoj ovih dvaju otoka tijekom antike i ranog srednjeg vijeka. Ključne riječi: otok Ilovik, otok Sv. Petar, plovidbeni pravci, ranokršćanske crkve, rimski nadgrobni natpis Prilikom arheoloških istraživanja 2009.

  • Prometna Povezanost
Tourism Introduction Zadar County encompasses marine area from Island Pag to National Park Kornati and land area of Velebit, i.e. the central part of the Croatian coastline. This is the area of true natural beauty, inhabited from the Antique period, rich with cultural heritage, maritime tradition and hospitality. Zadar County is the heart of the Adriatic and the fulfilment of many sailors' dreams with its numerous islands as well as interesting and clean underwater. It can easily be accessed from the sea, by inland transport and airways. Inseparable unity of the past and the present can be seen everywhere. Natural beauties, cultural and historical monuments have been in harmony for centuries, because men lived in harmony with nature. As a World rarity, here, in a relatively small area, within a hundred or so kilometres, one can find beautiful turquoise sea, mountains covered with snow, fertile land, rough karst, ancient cities and secluded Island bays. This is the land of the sun, warm sea, olives, wine, fish, song, picturesque villages with stone- made houses, to summarise - the true Mediterranean. History of Tourism in Zadar Tourism in Zadar has a long tradition. The historical yearbooks record that in June 1879 a group of excursionists from Vienna visited Zadar, in 1892 the City Beautification Society was founded (active until 1918), and in 1899 the Mountaineering and Tourism Society "Liburnia" was founded. At the beginning of the XX century, in March 1902 hotel Bristol was opened to the public (today's hotel Zagreb). Most important period for the development of tourism in Zadar County lasted from the 60's - 80's of the 20th century, when the majority of the hotel complexes were erected.
