The presentation foregrounds the artists’ echoing yet diverging approaches to understanding the limits of abstraction, figuration, and dimensionality, offering a formal and procedural conversation between works, that aims to explore how artists have consistently grappled to come to terms with certain pillars of artistic processes and cannons. armory online Elian Almeida Maria Auxiliadora da Silva (Vogue Brasil), 2021 [detail] rodolpho parigi ‘My work grows from a conflict between reality and fiction. • PAULO CLIMACHAUSKA | RONDA NOTURNA Opening: 7Th May, 19H
PAULO CLIMACHAUSKA | RONDA NOTURNA Opening: 7th May, 19h Galeria Leme presents, Ronda Noturna (Night Watch), Paulo Climachauska's first solo exhibition in the gallery, since he started being representated by Galeria Leme two years ago. Paulo Climachauska's works of are deeply rooted in his fascination with the interrelationships between economy, society and art, examining the idea of art as a socioeconomic element and its association with the abstraction of capital and its financial derivatives. The artist always addresses this issue with a 'double meaning', using and subverting icons that are already saturated by the collective imagination as levers to question established forms of interpretation. Be it redesigning the world through the systematic and repetitive action of mathematical subtractions, or using known figures of the gambling and speculation environments, the artist moves freely through the fields of economics, sociology and history. In fact, the evolution of Climachauka's works can be largely attributed to the way he rethinks, reconsiders and deconstructs principles deeply rooted to an ideological apparatus that aims to discredit speeches refuting the status quo. In Ronda Noturna (Night Watch), Climachauska presents a new series of 18 works. The title of the exhibition and homonymous series, use the name of one of the most famous masterpieces of the Dutch painter Rembrandt, painted between 1640 and 1642, whose title in Dutch, De Nachtwacht, is translated into Portuguese as Ronda Noturna. On this painting of monumental dimensions we can see a militia of Amsterdam which is preparing to make a monitoring round of the city. Departing from this iconic scene and using materials such as reinforced glass, mirrors covered with darkening film that inhibits the vision for car interiors and spaces, and composing geometric patterns that recall the many gates and bars of the city of São Paulo, Climachauska composes an exhibition that questions the paranoia of security, surveillance and contemporary control devices.

  • Equilibrios Efemeros Press Release
Lamb Projects inaugurates new art space in Mayfair with the exhibition of contemporary Brazilian artists: #Project II Equilíbrios Efêmeros Tulio Pinto, Carla Chaim and Tete de Alencar Curator Marcello Pisu Opening: 25th November 2014, 6 pm 10 Whitehorse Street, London, W1J 7LJ Lamb Projects, directed by Lucinda Bellm, presents its first show in the new space in Mayfair, curated by Berlin/Sâo Paulo based curator Marcello Pisu. The show displays the installation, sculpture, drawing and video work of three artists, who decline in their practice the topics of dynamic equilibrium between the social, political, environmental, physical, cultural extremes of our time. Curatorial Text Landing in São Paulo, the city looks like a gigantic plate of concrete laid on the brightest, densest of the veg- etations, a layer of inert matter over a fertile ground. This impressively imposing grey creation, though, is not thick enough to make you forget what lies beneath. The merciless opacity and linearity of the dominant archi- tecture, testament of an imported, grandiose ambition for modernity, couldn’t contain the real nature of this land. The roots crack the asphalt in every corner, the sound of the lively soil talks through those who were born here, or feel like they did. The earth here vibrates in its constant stillness. Meanwhile, in the capital Brasilia, completely designed after the idea of an airplane, the sky is the real totalising element, permanent reminder of the absolute power of simplicity. In Rio, you couldn't stop feeling the presence of the ocean even in the highest of the mountains surrounding it.

These objects allude to the fragmentation and dissection of bodies, and the ram to the genealogy of Christ. In a certain sense, it recalls a mural – and, by association, the story of the Last Supper, but transformed into a Resurrection by the indelible mark of blood. Desmembramento (Dismemberment), 2000, with its simultaneously minimalist and grandiose look, seems to exalt both form and subject, although not dissociated from one another. The work also indicates possible relationships between a number of moments in Karin Lambrecht’s trajectory, from different points in her attention to large scale or monumentality, to the ample and free use of materials such as sand, earth, natural pigments, blood, rain, tablecloths, etc., etc., as a way of resolving questions of surface, color, rhythm, and gesture. Questions of painting, that is to say. While still a student at the Instituto de Arte da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, ufrgs, Karin took part in a variety of activities with a clear conceptual bent, such as her drawings at Espaço n.o., a concern that, to my eye, will reappear in her future as a painter, and which she will identify as a center of her work.
