The category 4 Tropical Storm ETA-20 reached the coast of southern Puerto Cabezas in the afternoon of 3 November. With maximum sustained winds up to 240 km/h. According to GDACS, Tropical Cyclone ETA-20 can have a high humanitarian impact based on the maximum sustained wind speed, exposed population, and vulnerability. Based on data of the forecasted tropical cyclone path of wind speeds zones from Joint Research Centre (Issued on 5 November 2020 03:00 UTC), and population data from WorldPop 2020, UNITAR-UNOSAT has prepared a population exposure analysis for the Honduras. About 1% of population of the Honduras living inside wind speed zone of 60-120 km/h and 11% living inside wind speed zone below 60 km/h Population Exposure in Honduras as of 5 November 2020 The population exposure has been calculated using a 100m resolution WorldPoP dataset. This is a preliminary analysis & has not yet been validated in the field. 2 UNITAR-UNOSAT | Tropical Cyclone ETA, Eta-20 | Population Exposure Analysis in Honduras as of 5 November 2020 Honduras population living within the wind speed zone below 60 km/h & within 60-120 km/h in each department. 5 November 2020 at 03:00 UTC Honduras Population Exposed to Sustained Wind Speed Zones Tropical Cyclone Eta-20 (5 November 2020, 03:00 UTC) Population Total Department/Municipality Wind Speed Zones Population <60 km/h 60 - 120 km/h >120 km/h Honduras 1,080,207 1,412 - 1,081,618 Choluteca 24,347 - - 24,347 Duyure 3,890 - - 3,890 Morolica 1,050 - - 1,050 San Marcos de Colon 19,407 - - 19,407 Colon 1,736 - - 1,736 Iriona 1,736 - - 1,736 El Paraiso 456,342 - - 456,342 Alauca 9,701 - - 9,701 Danli 232,927 - - 232,927 El Paraiso 50,040 - - 50,040 Guinope 1,332 - - 1,332 Jacaleapa 4,342 - - 4,342 Moroceli 14,687 - - 14,687 Oropoli 5,993 - - 5,993 Potrerillos 5,092 - - 5,092 San Antonio de Flores 5,251 - - 5,251 San Lucas 1,106 - - 1,106 San Matias 5,685 - - 5,685 Teupasenti 50,213 - - 50,213 Trojes 54,698 - - 54,698 Vado Ancho 37 - - 37 Yuscaran 15,236 - - 15,236 3 UNITAR-UNOSAT | Tropical Cyclone ETA, Eta-20 | Population Exposure Analysis in Honduras as of 5 November 2020 Francisco Morazan 8,779 - - 8,779 Guaimaca 6,781 - - 6,781 San Antonio de Oriente 48 - - 48 San Juan de Flores 1,950 - - 1,950 Gracias a Dios 78,189 - - 78,189 Brus Laguna 1,447 - - 1,447 Puerto Lempira 76,742 - - 76,742 Olancho 510,814 1,412 - 512,226 Campamento 23,129 - - 23,129 Catacamas 137,640 - - 137,640 Concordia 7,007 - - 7,007 Dulce Nombre de Culmi 34,355 - - 34,355 Gualaco 21,559 - - 21,559 Guarizama 8,328 - - 8,328 Guata 8,024 - - 8,024 Jano 586 - - 586 Juticalpa 147,544 - - 147,544 Manto 12,253 - - 12,253 Patuca 29,630 - - 29,630 Salama 4,723 - - 4,723 San Esteban 25,918 - - 25,918 San Francisco de Becerra 11,075 - - 11,075 San Francisco de La Paz 19,823 - - 19,823 Santa Maria del Real 11,228 - - 11,228 Silca 7,993 - - 7,993 Cyclone track: Joint Research Centre (JRC) as of 5 November 2020 Wind speed zones: Joint Research Centre (JRC) as of 5 November 2020, 00:00 UTC Administrative Levels: OCHA, HDX Spatial Demographic Data: WorldPoP (2020), 100 m spatial resolution Analysis: UNITAR-UNOSAT (5 November 2020) Download full excel table here.
