NOTES FROM RANDY STEINER, IBCC Vol u me , Is s ue PRESIDENT…. October 2018 As the solstice just rolled by, and we have had the Harvest moon, the cooler Inside this issue: temperatures are saying fall is really here. It is getting close for some cars to take President’s Notes 1 their winter nap, or have some loving work done to them while the days are short and the weather cold. And there will always be those brave souls driving their Volunteer of the Month 1 into the deep of winter. It means the holidays will be soon upon us. Make sure to put the Christmas party on your calendar for this year. It is on IBCC Board Members 2 th December 8 which seems early, but it makes it the second Saturday in the month. Upcoming Events 3 With the passing of September, it means we have wrapped up the Southwest Idaho Brit Car Events 4 All British Field Meet. What a stellar event this year! With the Morgan Owners Group Northwest bringing in several great Morgans, and several others from other Ladies 2nd IBCC Tea 4 groups, we had a field of 15 to celebrate the 50 year anniversary. The Triumph 250 Directory Picture Re- 5 also had it’s 50th birthday and there were many great cars in attendance. quest 59 cars in McCall and 108 cars and motorcycles in Meridian. Great growth from last New Members 5 year. IBCC Summer Tour 6 I would like to thank the following clubs for coming out and participating with us. 2019 Morgan Owners Group Northwest, Portland Triumph Owners Association, TYEE Coffee Happenings 7 Triumph Club, Reno British Car Club, Seattle Area Owners Association, Triumph Wedge Owners Association, and Wasatch Mountain Jaguar Register. Moss Motors (by Oct. 8 15) 3 Fun Things I would like to also thank West Abbey Road for coming and playing some great music for us. IBCC Board Meeting 8 Minutes I have to give a huge shout out to Rick and Liz Mills for everything they put into the show in McCall and Meridian. It was a huge success and the feedback I have seen 2018 SWIABFM 9-10 shows it was well appreciated by all. SWIABFM Results 11-12 Last but not least there was a crew of very helpful individuals which helped set up McCall Car Show 13 the tent, get cars parked and keep registration, raffle and donations flowing. The Second Annual IBCC Ladies’ Tea – 9/22/18

Ladies, if you missed this event, you missed something special! A group of 10 of us from the IBCC, including Michelle Rolfe and her friend, Bev, Kay Dougall, Kay Whitmarsh, Sue Evans, Kathie Seideman, Becky Nich- ols, Sandi Long, Margaret Bell, and Liz Mills got togeth- er and had such a nice, relaxing afternoon: sipping tea, eating delicious food, and chatting about all different subject matters. We indulged in tea sandwiches, scones, crumpets, clotted creams, jams, lemon curd, lemon squares, tarts, and, of course, tea. Oh my, so much food, but it was all wonderful!. It was so fun to spend time getting to know each other better; often the club coffees are busy and we don’t al- ways get to visit with everyone. We discovered there is a love of books, adventures (skiing, zip lining, roller coasters, jumping out of a plane, traveling, etc), and there are those that are happy to keep their feet on the ground! And, of course, there is a love of Little British Cars! Thank you to Margaret Bell for hosting this event! Thanks to Sandi Long for organizing the tea and making so much food! I (Margaret) would also like to thank Becky Nichols for the pretty party favors (I admit I ate the chocolate already) and Sandi for making book- marks! So make a note to yourself for next year! Don’t miss the Ladies’ Tea. We don’t know who will host it or where it will take place, but it really is a great treat to spend time with friends, new and old, and just relax and enjoying this fabulous British custom. Oh, and if any of you run into Bill Dougall at a coffee, ask him about his Flymo!

Subject: Three fun things Deadline: Oct. 15, 2018

British car club leaders, enthusiasts and friends,

I’m working on the next couple upcoming Moss Motoring magazines and there are some fun opportunities for your car club members to have a chance to participate in. It would be a huge help to me if you would share the following request for photos, stories and also questions. I appreciate this so much! If material submitted is used in the magazine, I get the pleasure of placing a credit to their Moss Motors account with a gift of $50 (or more if the content is longer). My email address is: [email protected] 1. Winter LBC Garage Scenes I was sent a delightful story that reflects a winter memory from years ago and I’d love to show some imagery that captures and adds to the blustery Christmastime spirit of it. It’s tricky finding winter photos with British sports cars. If you have a winter photo with your car—either on the road or being worked on in the garage/shop—this would be a big help! And do include a short paragraph or two that helps describe the scene. Thank you! If possible, please send photos that are a pretty big file size. That will make my graphic designer’s day. 2. Best of Friends Are you great friends with someone primarily because of British cars? Here’s your chance to send in a pic (or two or three) of the two of you and embarrass them with a story of your antics together. 3. Ask Graham Robson Moss Motoring has had the privilege of a regular column by Mr. Graham Robson. He’s a great guy with encyclopedic knowledge, who aims to please. He asks me regularly if there’s anything I’d like for him to write about. I asked if he’d be will- ing to answer questions from Moss customers and he replied: I don't mind being involved in an 'Ask Robson' dialogue, just so long it doesn't mean me having to advise on things like the best Lucas fuse to use for a 1954 MG TD, or the best tyres for a Triumph TR4. My expertise, if there is one, is not to know everything technical, but to know most things historical, the persons once involved, and the whys and wherefores of the British 'classic car' industry … Send me the questions you’ve always wondered about and I’ll pick out some good ones for Graham! Thank you so much!

IBCC Board Meeting The 3rd quarter IBCC board member meeting was held August 30th. Board members in attendance were Randy Steiner, Rick Mills, Elaine McAfee, Sandi Long, and Becky Nichols. Other IBCC members in attendance were Suzie Steiner, Max Long, Jim Hahn, Bob Hurtt, Wes Seideman, and Rod Nichols. The first order of business was to welcome Bob Hurtt as our new vice-president. Bob graciously volunteered to fill the vice- president vacancy. As vice-president, he will be in charge of the club regalia. Next, Suzie recapped Summer Tour. It was noted that the club lost money on Summer Tour 2018. This deficit was largely due to low attendance. One topic that was brought up for discussion was the possibility of the club alternating years for the Summer Tour and SWIABFM. (Ex: Summer Tour one year and SWIABFM the next). After some discussion on this, we moved on to this years SWIABFM. Rick presented information on The Village and progress being made. He indicated that every year The Village has taken away stuff. Rick asked for volunteers for the field meet. The IBCC Christmas Party was on the agenda, but as it was getting late it was decided to table that until the next board meet- ing.

2018 SWIABFM

2018 SWIABFM is in the rear view mirror. It was a great suc- cess! We had 59 cars make the show in McCall with 35 peo- ple enjoying the cruise on the lake. There were 107 LBC’s and 4 motorcycles at The Village car show.

A special thanks to those who helped with parking: Lynn Gardner, John Scott, Jim Hahn, Bill Dryden, Jim Evans and Rod Nichols – also, Dennis Baxter, Mike Crane, Rod Nichols who helped with parking in McCall.

The good job that they did was noticeable by everyone who came to see the cars. Many people commented on how well organized the event was, and they could see all the hard work that was put into it and appreciated all who helped contribute to making this a wonderful event.

Thank you, also, to the following volunteers who helped to put the show together: Rod and Becky Nichols, Liz Mills, Jim Hahn, Jim and Sue Evans, Bill and Sue Dryden, Randy and Suzie Steiner, Greg and Margaret Bell, Peter Van Dorne, Lynn and Jan Gardner, Wes Seideman, Rob and Francine Winkle, Bill Siewert, John Timko, Don and Linda Huffman, Gerry Kulm, John Scott and Stan Lee and others we may have missed. Thanks to Brian and Erin Storey of Storey’s Garage for the $100 cash award drawing for the people who registered on or before August 15th. Thanks to Keely Mills and Alex Phan for capturing both days on video and conducting interviews with some of the show participants.

Lex and Donna Bernstein of the McCall Auto Club were such a huge help, too!! They hosted a fabu- lous meet and greet Friday evening in McCall at Lex’s beautiful shop for all the weary travelers coming from various distances. They also provided the tent for the registration table on Saturday morning. Thank you both for all your support.

Thank you to Rick Mills for putting hours of effort into such a great event!! S P O K E ‘n’ W O R D Page 10

Below are just a few of the comments we have received. As I have said, the success of SWIABFM is largely due to everyone who came out and brought their cars to the show! Thank you all!

Rick et al - speaking for myself and, I'm sure, the rest of the Portland/Washington bunch, allow me to thank you guys for a most enjoyable and worthwhile event. I'm glad my Morgans [I had two there as it happened since my mechanic was a "walk-in" with my 1966 4/4] were part of such a well-planned and executed meet. The awards, one of which sits proudly on my mantle as I type, are truly unique and speak to the energy and devotion of the Ida- ho folks. As well as more than a bit of skill and patience, I might add! Very special, indeed. Thanks again, David David Crandall, MOGNW, Portland, OR, Email – 9/22

We had a wonderful time in McCall & Meridian. Thank you for your generous hospitality and excellent event. We drove 1192 miles with our 61 Morgan without any glitches. It just keeps on purring and we love our drives in it. Our bodies were both a little tender a few days after, but well worth the trip. Thank you again so much, for all your hard and dedicated work on the field meets & dinner.

Rodger & Linda Huntley, MOGNW, Milwaukee, OR, Email 9/22

Thank you, thank you, thank you for developing and hosting this event. It was our first year attending and we were really impressed with all facets of it. It was fun and exciting. We met very interesting and enjoyable people. The McCall show was quite relaxed and intimate, and the Village venue was unique and elegant. Saturday evening party was great fun. All the hard work you and the rest of the team did to create this success is highly appreciated. We will be promoting this meet to the local British-car-club members. Paul & Steffi Rollins, MOGNW, Vancouver, WA, Email 9/20

We began telling others about this event even before we left Idaho to return home and have continued to do so. While it may not have been the largest British Field Meet it most definitely was the best executed by a wide, wide margin. In addition, we met some truly wonderful, warm, welcoming people. We are already impatient to do it again next year! Thank you for all your hard work, for the invite and most of all for how welcome you made us feel.
