Basic information Date The first day of the Year of the Horse, i.e. 31 January 2014 (Friday) Time 8:00pm to 9:45pm (The spectator stands at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza will be open to ticket holders from 7:00pm) Opening Ceremony The Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, Tsim Sha Tsui Location Parade Route • Starts at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza, proceeds along Canton Road and Haiphong Road, turns right on Nathan Road, proceeds along Salisbury Road, and ends outside the Sheraton Hong Kong Hotel & Towers • TTTwoTwowowo vantage points along the parade route: - Zone 1: The Canton Road pedestrian walkways outside Harbour City/The Sun Arcade - Zone 2: The Junction of Nathan Road and Peking Road/Middle Road pedestrian walkways, in front of Chungking Mansions 2.2.2. Highlights This year marks the 19 th staging of the International Chinese New Year Night Parade. Highlights include: o 34 floats and performing troupes The floats and performing troupes in the procession come from 15 countries/regions: Australia, China, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Korea, Macau, the Netherlands, Singapore, Spain, Trinidad, Barbados, St. Lucia and the USA. There are a total of: - 11131333 floatsfloats, one of which is joining the parade for the first time. - 101010 international performing groupsgroups, eight of which are first-timers, including the team from Barbados, St Lucia and Trinidad; and - 111111 local performing groupsgroups, three of which are first-timers. o Roving performers to perform prior to the night parade 1 Prior to the night parade, from 7:00pm, spectators can take part in a street party along the parade route, featuring enhanced sound and light effects and performances by six local groups, including a bike parade, a marching band, African drumming and different dances. 3.3.3. Spectator stands and ticketing aarrangementsrrangements o Approximately 2,700 seats are available in the spectator stands at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza. o Tickets for the spectator stands at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazza are available at HK$400, $350 and $300. Half-price concessionary tickets are available for Hong Kong senior residents aged 65 or above and children aged three to 11 (concessionary ticket holders must produce evidence of their identity or age upon admission). o Tickets will go on sale from 8:00am on Saturday, 25 January 2014 at the HKTB Tsim Sha Tsui Visitor Centre (Star Ferry Concourse). Each person can purchase a maximum of four tickets per transactiontransaction. Tickets are available on a firstfirst----come,come, firstfirst----servedserved basis. 4.4.4. Live bbroadcastroadcast o The event will be broadcast live on the Jade and HD Jade channels of Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB) between 8:00pm and 9:45pm. 555.5. Float dddisplaydisplay (free admission) o From 1 to 16 February, various floats from the night parade will be on display in Lam Tsuen Wishing Square, Tai Po. 666.6. Performances by international performing ggroupsroups (free admission) o On 1 and 2 February, a number of the international performing groups from the night parade will perform at Lam Tsuen Wishing Square and various hotspots, including ELEMENTS, Maritime Square, Metro City Plaza, PopCorn, Telford Plaza and Pak Shek Kok Waterfront Promenade. Over the past years, the event attracted more than 20,000 local and overseas cyclists to participate in various cycling programmes, as well as professional cyclists from around the world to compete in the International Criterium Race, which was sanctioned by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and The Cycling Association of Hong Kong, China Limited (CAHK). The 50km Ride is the first cycling activity which covers “Three Tunnels and Three Bridges (Tsing Ma Bridge, Ting Kau Bridge, Stonecutters Bridge, Cheung Tsing Tunnel, Nam Wan Tunnel, Eagle’s Nest Tunnel)” in the route. 2.3. Besides, all the entry fees from the CEO Charity and Celebrity Ride and Family Fun Ride and partial amount of the entry fee from other rides/ races will be donated to the beneficiaries of the event.

Winter Season (December - March) is the most relaxing and comfortable time to go to Hong Kong but besides the weather, there's little else to do since the "Sale Season" occurs during Summer. There are some sales during Christmas & Chinese New Year but 90% of the clothes are for winter. Hong Kong can get very foggy during winter, as such, visit to the Peak is a hit-or-miss affair. A foggy bird's eye view of HK isn't really nice. Summer Season (May - October) is similar to Manila's weather, very hot but moving around in Hong Kong can get extra uncomfortable because of the high humidity which gives the "sticky" feeling. Hong Kong's rainy season also falls on their summer, July & August has the highest rainfall count and the typhoons also arrive in these months. The Sale / Shopping Festival is from the start of July to the start of September. If the sky is clear, the view from the Peak is great. Avoid going to Hong Kong when there are large-scale exhibitions or ongoing tournaments like the Hong Kong Sevens Rugby Tournament because hotel prices will be significantly higher.     For discussion on 15 December 2000 LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL Panels of Environmental Affairs and Transport Measures to Address Noise Impact of Existing Roads INTRODUCTION This paper supplements the Legislative Council brief issued to Members on 18 November 2000 concerning a new policy to address the noise impact of existing roads on nearby residents. A copy of the brief is at Enclosure 1. THE NEW POLICY 2. The new policy to address the noise impact of existing roads on residents in the neighbourhood is as follow - (a) engineering solutions, by way of retrofitting of barriers and enclosures, and resurfacing with low noise material, should be implemented where practicable at existing excessively noisy roads in accordance with the guiding principles set out in paragraphs 7 and 13 of the Legislative Council brief; and (b) Non-engineering solutions, such as traffic management measures, should be explored on a case-by-case basis and implemented where practicable at roads where engineering solutions are impracticable or where engineering solutions alone are inadequate in reducing the noise to an acceptable level. PAGE 2 SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION Roads exceeding noise limit 3. According to the assessment of the Environmental Protection Department (EPD), 655 out of 3,000 existing roads in Hong Kong are currently generating noise in excess of the noise limit for new roads of 70dB(A). This does not mean, however, all flats near these 655 roads are exposed to high noise levels. This is because the degree of noise impact would depend on factors including height and location of the flats and any structure that screens the line-of-sight to the road.

    Historic Building Appraisal 1 Tsang Tai Uk Sha Tin, N.T. Tsang Tai Uk (曾大屋, literally the Big Mansion of the Tsang Family) is also Historical called Shan Ha Wai (山廈圍, literally, Walled Village at the Foothill). Its Interest construction was started in 1847 and completed in 1867. Measuring 45 metres by 137 metres, it was built by Tsang Koon-man (曾貫萬, 1808-1894), nicknamed Tsang Sam-li (曾三利), who was a Hakka (客家) originated from Wuhua (五華) of Guangdong (廣東) province which was famous for producing masons. He came to Hong Kong from Wuhua working as a quarryman at the age of 16 in Cha Kwo Ling (茶果嶺) and Shaukiwan (筲箕灣). He set up his quarry business in Shaukiwan having his shop called Sam Lee Quarry (三利石行). Due to the large demand for building stone when Hong Kong was developed as a city since it became a ceded territory of Britain in 1841, he made huge profit. He bought land in Sha Tin from the Tsangs and built the village. The completed village accommodated around 100 residential units for his family and descendents. It was a shelter of some 500 refugees during the Second World War and the name of Tsang Tai Uk has since been adopted. The sizable and huge fortified village is a typical Hakka three-hall-four-row Architectural (三堂四横) walled village. It is in a Qing (清) vernacular design having a Merit symmetrical layout with the main entrance, entrance hall, middle hall and main hall at the central axis. Two other entrances are to either side of the front wall.

    CB(1)98/04-05(01) For information LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL PANEL ON PLANNING, LANDS AND WORKS Area Improvement Plan for Tsim Sha Tsui - Proposed Planning Framework Purpose This paper informs Members of the proposed Planning Framework for the Area Improvement Plan for Tsim Sha Tsui and the three proposed Priority Improvement Schemes for early implementation. Background 2. Planning Department and Transport Department have jointly commissioned the Area Improvement Study for Tsim Sha Tsui (thereafter referred to as ‘the Study’) in January 2004. The objective of the Study is to formulate a comprehensive plan covering improvements to the pedestrian environment, landscape, streetscape and urban design for the area in an integrated manner. Plan 1 shows the boundary of the Study area, together with some key issues identified in the Study. Planning Framework 3. To address these key issues, the Study has proposed a Planning Framework (Plan 2) to serve – (a) as a basis for public consultation; and (b) as a guide for more detailed studies in respect of the individual proposals after duly incorporating views received in the public consultation. 2 4. The proposed Planning Framework comprises six major components, namely – (a) Enhancement of Pedestrian Linkages and Circulation; (b) Designation of Pedestrian Priority Area; (c) Strengthening the attraction of Nathan Road Corridor; (d) Introduction of Urban/Landscape/Streetscape Design Schemes; (e) Improvement on interface with the future West Kowloon Cultural District; and (f) Implementation/Institutional set-up for the improvement schemes. 5.
