The Skatalites (Jamaica. Ska, Rocksteady, Reggae, Jazz) The Skatalites (o The Ska-Talites) es un grupo de origen jamaicano de ska creado en 1964. El nombre está formado a partir de la mezcla de «The Satellites» con la palabra «Ska». Historia The Skatalites están considerados los creadores del ska y, por tanto, influenciadores del rocksteady, del reggae -ya sea early (Skinhead), roots (Rastafarismo)...-, del dub, del dancehall, y del de sus descendientes musicales que derivan de los sonidos tradicionales de Jamaica. Sus primeras grabaciones de ska datan de junio de 1964, aunque estos músicos habían trabajado bastante tiempo antes como banda de estudio para el sello Studio One, grabando principalmente rhythm and blues. Los miembros originales de la banda obtuvieron su formación musical a partir de los músicos de jazz de la isla Jamaiquina.     There's Never Been a More Important Time to Know Our History

    There’s never been a more important time to know our history. Understanding that the fundamental challenges we face as a society today are not dissimilar to those our ancestors faced gives us a fresh perspective on our lives. One of the common threads is music and, with that as its foundation, Sumach Roots (the album and live show) takes audiences on a bold and innovative exploration of Upper Canada’s evolution over the past three hundred years. The brainchild of two-time JUNO nominee and best-selling historian Jason Wilson, Sumach Roots draws from a deep well of sounds— from traditional British folk to bebop jazz and classic reggae—in order to tell the stories of those who built Upper Canada, both literally and culturally. With a top-flight cast of performers joining him on stage, Wilson delves into the late eighteenth century diaries of Elizabeth Simcoe, the impact of the Irish Famine, and the great Toronto fires of 1902 and 1904. With equal measures of humour and pathos, Sumach Roots joyfully illuminates the host/immigrant experience in Upper Canada. The album is a follow up to Wilson’s acclaimed Perennials (2016) and is the second part of his Valley Road Trilogy, a trilogy that celebrates “place” and its importance to history and memory. THE CAST JIM ARMSTRONG – James Pott / various Jim is a classically trained actor with a BFA in Acting from the University of Windsor. His favourite roles in the theatre include Detective Dick in High Park Noir (Simply Twisted Productions), Rosencrantz in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (Hart House Theatre), Jean in Rhinoceros (Seven Siblings Theatre), Ambituoso in Cousins of Corsica (Springworks Festival) and Tom from The Generation Gap (U of T Drama Centre).

Os anos entre o fechamento e a reabertura Agência O Globo foram de muita militância cultural, política e judicial, num movimento que reuniu pessoas da classe artística e políticos comprometidos com as causas culturais. Vencedor de uma ação popular, o Circo Voador ganhou o direito de voltar ao funcionamento, e a prefeitura do Rio de Janeiro ‒ que havia demolido o arcabouço anterior ‒ foi obrigada a construir uma nova estrutura para a casa. Com uma nova arquitetura, futurista e mais atenta às questões acústicas inerentes a uma casa de shows, o Circo retomou as atividades no segundo semestre de 2004 e segue ininterruptamente oferecendo opções de diversão, alegria e formação artística ao público do Rio e a todos os amantes de música e arte em geral. 8 Circo Voador Apresentação Uma característica do Acervo Circo Voador pós-reabertura é que a grande maioria dos eventos tem registro filmado. Ao contrário do período 1982-1996, que conta com uma cobertura significativa mas relativamente pequena (menos de 15% dos shows filmados), após 2004 temos mais de 95% dos eventos registrados em vídeo. O formato do período que este catálogo abrange, que vai de 2004 a 2009, é a fita MiniDV, extremamente popular à época por sua relação custo-benefício e pela resolução de imagem sensivelmente melhor do que outros formatos profissionais e semiprofissionais.

This summer sees a major upsurge in events involving members of The Dub family – Natty HiFi, Jah Lambs & Lions, Makepeace Promotions, Zion Roots, Swindon Dub Club, Field Frequency Sound System, High Grade and more – hence the launch of the new Dub Diary Newsletter at sessions. The aim is to spread the word about forthcoming gigs and sessions across the region, pulling different promoters’ efforts together.
