Cultural and commercial benefits are not mutually exclusive; enhancing cultural, sporting and educational exchanges will promote commercial exchange over the longer term. Jiangmen is well connected by air, rail, road and sea. Five international airports operate within a two-hour drive of the city. It is also a convenient 2.5-hour ferry ride away from Hong Kong. In contrast to the Glebe temple, the stretches down towards the harbour, sits the Sze Yiu Ming Temple is tucked away at the end of a double Yup Kwan Ti Temple. Land subsidence can accelerate the increase in relative sea level, lead to a series of potential hazards, and threaten the stability of the ecological environment and human lives. In this paper, we adopted two commonly used multi-temporal interferometric synthetic aperture radar (MTInSAR) techniques, Small baseline subset (SBAS) and Temporarily coherent point (TCP) InSAR, to monitor the land subsidence along the entire coastline of Guangdong Province. The long-wavelength L-band ALOS/PALSAR-1 dataset collected from 2007 to 2011 is used to generate the average deformation velocity and deformation time series. Linear subsidence rates over 150 mm/yr are observed in the Chaoshan Plain.

My research seeks to describe the effects of monetary inputs from Chinese transnationals - in the form of remittances, donations, and investments - on social and economic transformation in Taishan. To date, the distinct and joint effects of these on ongoing socio-economic developments in China have not been systematically examined. My research demonstrates that transnational remittances, donations, and to a lesser degree investments, have intensive and permanent influences on households, communities and regions. A large proportion of the residents of Taishan receive remittances via transnational ties. Remittances, a primary income source for many recipients, contribute adversely to the stratification of incomes in the community and have a strong influence on the lifestyles and economic strategies of recipients. Large volumes of transnational donations have effectively modernized schools, hospitals, libraries, village planning, transportation and other sectors in local regions. Local governments therefore depend heavily upon such support for the public sector. Meanwhile, transnational investments in industries, few at first but many in recent years, have gradually changed the economic structure of Taishan, stimulating industrialization and increasing demographic diversity by attracting migrant workers from other places.

Mac Crawford Copyright by Gary Lee Klase 2013 Abstract The Chinese liver fluke Clonorchis sinensis is a foodborne parasitic trematode transmitted through the consumption of raw or undercooked fish, and is responsible for a substantial burden of morbidity and mortality in China and other Asian countries. The present study includes two investigations into environmental factors related to clonorchiasis transmission in China. In the first study, a field investigation was carried out in Guangdong province, China to investigate the relationship between water quality factors and the abundance and infection status of the snail intermediate of C. sinensis in rural Chinese fishponds. No host snails were found during the study. From the microbial source tracking analysis it was found that a large proportion of the water samples from fishponds showed evidence of human fecal contamination (84%), pig fecal contamination (40%), and antibiotic resistant bacteria (80%), raising concerns about potential public health risks related to these fishponds. In the second study, the results of a clonorchiasis prevalence study conducted by the Jiangmen City Center for Disease Control in Guangdong province were combined with satellite imagery and geographic information systems (GIS) techniques to investigate the relationship between the proportion of water in the nearby landscape and the risk of clonorchiasis infection.
