MEDIASET GROUP The Mediaset Group, the leading commercial television broadcaster in both Italy and Spain, is one of Europe’s biggest media companies. Mediaset Italia has been listed on the Milan Stock Exchange since 1996, and Mediaset España on the Madrid Stock Exchange since 2004. The group’s core business is generalist commercial television. In Italy, Mediaset manages three major networks: Canale 5, Italia 1 and Retequattro, while in Spain it controls Telecinco and Cuatro. In Germany the company is the main shareholder of the ProsiebenSat1 television hub. In 2020 the Mediaset Group generated revenues of €2.925 billion. Other Mediaset activities in Italy: • FREE THEMATIC CHANNELS. Mediaset also broadcasts 11 free thematic channels: Iris, La5, Mediaset Italia2, Mediaset Extra, Top Crime, 20, Cine34, Focus, Boing, Cartoonito and the all-news channel TgCom24. • CONTENT PRODUCTION. Every year Mediaset directly produces over 12,000 hours of entertainment, drama, news and sports programmes. It is also engaged in film production and distribution through Medusa Film and in the production of film and TV drama with Taodue. • NEWS PRODUCTION. Each of the generalist channels has its own new programme: TG5, Studio Aperto and TG4 with a total of 13 bulletins every day. The internal news agency NewsMediaset produces news and current affairs content for all of these, as well as infotainment programmes and provides feed for the multiplatform all-news system TgCom24, Italy’s leading online news source. The company Videonews specialises in the production of talk shows and information services for both day time and prime time audiences. • STREAMING ON-DEMAND. “Mediaset Infinity” is the online platform, in a pyramid model, that offers the best of Mediaset’s output and a selection of high-quality on- demand content. The “Mediaset Infinity” pyramid has a broad base offering great free content from generalist TV that can be seen online, live or on-demand. Plus, a ‘light’ subscription provides access to the top of the “Mediaset Infinity” pyramid which offers exclusive content (prime TV, cinema, series and vertical channels) and the best of the UEFA Champions League. • RADIO. With the radio stations R101, Radio 105, Virgin Radio, Radio Subasio and Radio Montecarlo, Mediaset is Italy’s leading radio broadcaster. • ADVERTISING. The Mediaset Group operates with two wholly-owned television advertising companies (Publitalia ’80 and Digitalia ’08) and a 50% stake, with Mondadori, in the crossmedia advertising sales company Mediamond. Publitalia ’80 is the European leader and sells advertising for the three generalist channels (Canale 5, Rete 4, Italia1) and the free thematic channels. Digitalia ’08 is entirely dedicated to the pay offer. Mediamond manages the online activities of both the Group and third-parties, as well as the radio stations and the magazine tiles published by Mondadori. .
