At Emmanuel College, we believe in the strength of community and hear often from our students that when they join our extended community of peers, faculty, staff and alumni they are further inspired to develop and excel in all dimensions. We believe that parents and families provide a critical support system and hope this guide provides helpful information to assist you with your family’s transition. Along with the 2017-2018 academic calendar, this booklet provides a brief overview of campus resources and important contact information for key administrative offices and departments. I wish you well as you prepare for your student’s upcoming academic year and arrival to Emmanuel. Sincerely, Joseph Onofretti, Ph.D. Dean of Students TABLE OF CONTENTS Academic Calendar Page 2 Academic Advising // 617-735-9872 Page 3 Academic Resource Center // 617-735-9755 Page 3 Admissions // 617-735-9715 Page 4 Athletics and Recreation // 617-735-9985 Page 4 Bookstore // 617-739-2232 Page 5 Campus Safety // 617-735-9710 Page 5 Career Center // 617-735-9930 Page 6 Center for Diversity and Inclusion // 617-732-1652 Page 6 Colleges of the Fenway // 617-632-2729 Page 7 Counseling Center // 617-735-9920 Page 7 Dean of Students // 617-735-9917 Page 8 Health Services // 617-264-7678 Page 8 Information Technology // 617-735-9966 Page 8 International Programs & Study Abroad // 617-975-9215 Page 9 Jean Yawkey Center // 617-735-9994 Page 9 Library // 617-735-9927 Page 10 Mailroom and Copy Center // 617-735-9933 Page 10 Mission and Ministry // 617-735-9703 Page 11 New Student Engagement & Transition // 617-735-9794 Page 11 Registrar // 617-735-9960 Page 12 Residence Life and Housing // 617-735-9746 Page 12 Student Activities & Multicultural Programs // 617-735-9963 Page 12-13 Student Financial Services // 617-735-9938 Page 13 Vice President of Student Affairs // 617-735-9722 Page 13 1 Academic Calendar // Fall 2017-Spring 2018 September 3 Welcome/Move-In Day September 4-11 Welcome Week activities September 6 Fall 2017 Classes Begin October 9 Columbus Day—No Classes October 13, 14 & 15 Family Weekend October 20 Mid-Term Grade deadline (first-year students only) November 10 Veterans’ Day—No Classes November 21 Residence Halls close at 9:00 p.m. November 22-25 Thanksgiving Break November 26 Residence Halls reopen at Noon December 12 Last Day of Classes December 13 Reading Day December 14-18 Final Exams* December 19 Residence Halls close at 10:00 a.m. January 14 Residence Halls reopen at Noon January 15 Martin Luther King Day—No Classes January 17 Spring 2018 Classes Begin February 19 Presidents’ Day—No Classes March 2 Residence Halls close at 9:00 p.m. March 5-9 Spring Break March 11 Residence Halls reopen at Noon March 30 Good Friday—No Classes April 16 Patriots’ Day/Easter Monday—No Classes May 1 Last Day of Classes May 2 Reading Day May 3-7 Final Exams* May 8 Residence Halls close at 10:00 a.m. *Students must move out of the Residence Halls within 24 hours of their last exam WWW.EMMANUEL.EDU/ACADEMICCALENDAR 2 Academic Advising LOCATION: Administration Building, Room 320 and 322 PHONE: 617-735-9872 E-MAIL: [email protected] HOURS: M-F: 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. RESOURCES: • Provides each new student with an academic advisor who: – Meets with students to review college policies and procedures in scheduled, small-group meetings (AA0101) – Assists new students in transitioning from high school to college life – Provides students the opportunity to participate in “Majors Exploration Program” so they may assess their own personal skills and talents to determine a major through exploring different areas – Collaborates with the Career Center to provide students the opportunity to participate in an assessment that helps them discover possible major options – Works with students to create a four-year plan of study to they are prepared graduate in four years – Discusses study abroad integration with overall academic plan • Directs students to appropriate offices for assistance with various issues Academic Resource Center LOCATION: Lower level of Cardinal Cushing Library, LIB G-04 PHONE: 617-735-9755 E-MAIL: [email protected] HOURS: M-Th: 9:00 a.m.-8:00 p.m. // F: 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. Sun: 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. RESOURCES: • Connects students with Peer Tutors to assist with course work and study skills – Offers study groups to aid students in preparing for major tests and exams as well as drop-in writing help – Appointments can be made in person or on-line (via the portal, ECLearn or at www. emmanuel.mywconline.com) • Provides professional academic support to students through: – Academic Coaches to work individually with students to develop learning and study strategies to enhance academic success – Writing Specialists and Peer Writing Tutors to help students organize and produce effective written work – A Math Specialist to provide individual support for courses requiring math – Disability Support Services (DSS) to coordinate support and accommodations for students with documented disabilities o To receive accommodations, students must meet with the Assistant Director of Disability Support Services.
