Founded in May 2016, this plant emerged as a model project in the tourist state with a capacity to segregate 150 tonnes garbage per day which will be expanded to 200 tons very soon. Apart from waste segregation, the plant is known for its surplus production of electricity from waste which is approximately 7000 Kw every day. Indian Coast Guards, Kochi The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) protects India’s maritime interests with jurisdiction over the territorial waters of India. It has a wide range of task capabilities for both surface and air operations. Founded in the year 1978 under the Ministry of Defence, the Coast Guard works in close cooperation with the Indian Navy, the Department of Fisheries, the Department of Revenue (Customs) and the Central and State police forces. Visiting the Indian Coast Guard base at Kochi and interacting with the officers there was in itself a thrilling experience for the delegates. PROJECTS Cochin International Airport The Cochin International Airport Limited(CIAL) hosted GGY delegation and facilitated an interactive session with various senior officials. The inspiring journey of CIAL was shared with the delegates. The world's first fully solar energy-powered airport (as recognised by the UNEP), it now carries the fourth highest international passenger traffic in India. It is also the first greenfield airport in India to be developed under a public-private partnership and was funded by nearly 10,000 non-resident Indians from 30 countries. Thank you for respecting the hardwork of this author. About the Book Narendra Modi, the present Prime Minister of India, is a true blue RSS (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh or National Volunteers Organization) swayamsevak or volunteer. More importantly, he is a product of prachaarak system, a unique institution of RSS. More than his election campaigns, his conduct after becoming the Prime Minister really tells us how a responsible RSS worker and prachaarak responds to any responsibility he is entrusted with. His rise is also illustrative example of submission by author in this book that RSS has been able to design a system that can create ‘extraordinary achievers out of ordinary people’. When the first edition of Secrets of RSS was released, air was thick with motivated propaganda about ‘Saffron terror’ and RSS was the favourite whipping boy as the face of ‘Hindu fascism’. Now as the second edition is ready for release, environment has transformed radically.

Contents Foreword p2/ Preface p3/ Overview p4/ Current initiatives p12/ Challenges and way forward p25/ International examples p28/Sources p32/ Glossary p36/ FICCI Security Department p38 Smart border management: Indian coastal and maritime security September 2017 www.pwc.in Dr Sanjaya Baru Secretary General Foreword 1 FICCI India’s long coastline presents a variety of security challenges including illegal landing of arms and explosives at isolated spots on the coast, infiltration/ex-filtration of anti-national elements, use of the sea and off shore islands for criminal activities, and smuggling of consumer and intermediate goods through sea routes. Absence of physical barriers on the coast and presence of vital industrial and defence installations near the coast also enhance the vulnerability of the coasts to illegal cross-border activities. In addition, the Indian Ocean Region is of strategic importance to India’s security. A substantial part of India’s external trade and energy supplies pass through this region. The security of India’s island territories, in particular, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, remains an important priority. Drug trafficking, sea-piracy and other clandestine activities such as gun running are emerging as new challenges to security management in the Indian Ocean region. FICCI believes that industry has the technological capability to implement border management solutions. The government could consider exploring integrated solutions provided by industry for strengthening coastal security of the country. The FICCI-PwC report on ‘Smart border management: Indian coastal and maritime security’ highlights the initiatives being taken by the Central and state governments to strengthen coastal security measures in the country.

Vivekananda Shila Smarak Ek Bharat Vijayi Bharat Vivekananda Kendra Gratefully Remembers and Invites the Hundreds and Thousands Who or Whose Families Had Contributed to the Building of The Grand Vivekananda Rock Memorial at Kanyakumari in 1970 To Celebrate the 50th Year of the Memorial [1970-2020] And Renew the Association Swami Vivekananda on the last bit of Indian Rock “Sitting on the last bit of Indian rock—I hit upon a plan: Suppose some disinterested sannyasins, bent on doing good to others, go from village to village, disseminating education and seeking in various ways to better the condition of all, down to the last person—can’t that bring forth good in time?” “We, as a nation, have lost our individuality, and that is the cause of all mischief in India. We have to give back to the nation its lost individuality and raise the masses.” (In a letter written to Swami Ramakrishnananda on 19 March 1894) Swami Vivekananda’s mission for rejuvenation of Bharat began with the plan he had hit upon when he sat on “the last bit of Indian rock”. Now, thanks to the invaluable contribution from all of you, a beautiful memorial - to recall Swami Vivekananda beginning his mission for India - now stands on that last bit of rock. The Memorial, built by a truly national effort put together by the monumental work of Sri Eknath Ranade; the man behind the mighty work, was dedicated to the nation in September 1970. 3 As Swami Vivekananda had his inspiration from the rock, Eknath Ranade took inspiration from the memorial built on the rock to found the Vivekananda Kendra which has now grown into a mighty spiritually oriented service mission manned by thousands of karyakartas.

  • Protocols – Victim Assistance Units
PROTOCOLS FOR THE VICTIMS’ ASSISTANCE UNITS UNDER THE GOA CHILDREN’S ACT Anita Haladi, Former Vice-Chairperson, Goa State Commission for Children (The following is a brief summary of the draft protocols for the VAU that was submitted by the Goa State Commission for Children to the Government of Goa in April 2007. The draft was prepared through a consultative process with NGOs, the police, prosecution, the CWC, JJB and child rights activists in order to create a collaborative effort towards child protection) The rationale for creating VAUs under the GCA was to offer assistance to children in difficult circumstances and children who are victims of child rights violations, by a team of multi- disciplinary professionals in order to provide support and guidance to both the victim and the law enforcement agencies, using a child-friendly rights based approach. The GSCC recommended the setting up of at least one VAU in each district (as provided for under the GCA) that would comprise of a co-ordinator, three case workers, two legal officers and a counsellor for each VAU. Protocols for rescue, ensuring that the rights and dignity of a child are protected through the procedures of filing and processing of complaints with the police and the children’s court and for the rehabilitation of a child whose rights have been violated The recommendations include the need for training for each member of the VAU, adequate support infrastructure for the VAU and the Forensic Examination Unit, protocols for the members of the VAU, the police, the prosecution, the NGOs and the institution established under the JJ Act, and for the rescue of children who have been or are potentially being trafficked.
