He joined the law firm of O'Malley, Harris, Warren and Hill in 1947. He was Vice President of the International Textbook Company from 1949 to 1952. He became director of the Scranton Lackawanna Trust Company in 1952, and then President in 1954. He merged the Trust Company into the Northeastern Bank in 1956. He has served as a Director of many corporations and is presently serving as a Director of: IBM Corporation Northeastern Bank of Pennsylvania Scott Paper Company Sun Oil Company TRUSTEE - Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York CIVIC AFFAIRS Mr. Scranton is the Chairman of the National Conference on Government; Vice Chairman of the Urban Institute; and a member of the Executive Committee of the Trilateral Commission. He has recently served as a member of the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education and a Trustee of Yale University.
