While we have grown accustomed to the Solo Nationals being close by, obviously the big news is the Runoffs coming to our home track, Heartland Park. This gives us a great opportunity to invite our friends, relatives and business associates to come see what we do on the weekends in the atmosphere that only the Runoffs can offer. While our drivers will have their stories of glory or despair, most of the fun to be had and stories from the parties will come from our workers. The list of KC Region members working this years Runoffs include Ken Kern, Eric Linhoff, Bill Rinke, Chuck Austin, Hal Kemrite, Linda Henson, Alex Clark, Doug Gill, John & Phyllis Nelson, Peter Wilke, Char & Ken Keith, Victor Laviola, Neava Ford, Brian Harris, Nancy John- son, Sharlene Smith, Norma Williams, Chuck Austin, Joel Fish, Steve Nafus, David Bennett, Steve Rob- erts, Dena Smith, Ken Snyder, and Mike Asselta. In addition to these people we also have 7 individuals that have earned leadership positions at the Run- offs through their hard work and performance this past year. This “Magnificent Seven” include: Ken Ragan, Co Chief ES Course Marshall – Gini Ragan, Assistant Chief Timing & Scoring – Robert Thomp- son, Chief ES / Rescue Firefighters – Bill Johnson (older), TV Observer - Chris Keith, Assistant Chief Flagging – Buzz Fisher, Tech Steward – Dale Smith, Tech Supervisor Formula and Sports Racers. Congratulations to these 7 and all of our workers on a great year. This year’s Runoffs is another oppor- tunity to show everyone what great people we have in the Kansas City Region. At our October general meeting we will special guests Pego Mack, SCCA Rally Manager along with Mike Dickerson and Rich Biretta. Many of you know Mike, our clubs Manager of Region Development and Rich Biretta who helped us with our first rally last year. Pego will talk about the USRRC, how we can be involved and the clubs expanding Rally program. KVRG elections will be held at our November Board meeting, November 28th. Dear SCCA Media Partners, Welcome to what is truly a new era of the Sports Car Club of America, as the SCCA National Champi- onship Runoffs heads west for the first time in 46 years to Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. This event, made possible with the help of our friends and partners at Mazda and the Sports Car Rac- ing Association of the Monterey Peninsula (SCRAMP), was met with questions at its announcement that have been answered in a big way, with more than 530 drivers on the entry list and a rejunvenaton of the west coast program all season long. While we haven’t been west of the Rockies since River- side International Raceway in 1968, it’s hard to believe it will be that long before we return again. The question on everyone’s mind, even more than usual, is who is going to win? Are there hidden gems on the west coast who may be making their first Runoffs appearance that will make a name for themselves on the national stage, or will the traditional contenders learn a new track quickly enough to hold their titles? My guess is that we’ll see some of each.

Auto racing 1 Auto racing Auto racing Sebastian Vettel overtaking Mark Webber during the 2013 Malaysian Grand Prix Highest governing body FIA First contested April 28, 1887 Characteristics Mixed gender Yes Categorization Outdoor Auto racing (also known as automobile racing, car racing or motorcar racing) is a motorsport involving the racing of automobiles for competition. History The beginning of competition Motoring events began soon after the construction of the first successful gasoline-fueled automobiles. The first organized contest was on April 28, 1887, by the chief editor of Paris publication Le Vélocipède, Monsieur Fossier. It ran 2 kilometres (1.2 mi) from Neuilly Bridge to the Bois de Boulogne. It was won by Georges Bouton of the De Dion-Bouton Company, in a car he had constructed with Albert, the Comte de Dion, but as he was the only competitor to show up it is rather difficult to call it a race. Another solo event occurred in 1891 when Auguste Doriot and Louis Rigoulot of Peugeot drove their gasoline-fueled Type 3 Quadricycle in the bicycle race from Paris–Brest–Paris. By the time they reached Brest, the winning cyclist Charles Terront was already back in Paris. In order to publicly prove the reliability and performance of the 'Quadricycle' Armand Peugeot had persuaded the organiser, Pierre Giffard of Le Petit Journal, to use his network of monitors and marshalls to vouchsafe and report the vehicle's performance. The intended distance of 1200 km had never been achieved by a motorised vehicle, it being about three times further than the record set by Leon Serpollet from Paris to Lyon.[1][2] Auto racing 2 Paris–Rouen: the world's first motoring contest On July 23, 1894, the Parisian magazine Le Petit Journal organized what is considered to be the world's first motoring competition from Paris to Rouen.

At the age of 18, Brandon worked his way up to the open-wheel racing scene. After racing many years in the karting ranks, Brandon jumped into the newly developed open-wheel Formula SCCA cars in 2003.
