The publication is intended to assist ships operating in ice in all Canadian waters, including the Arctic. This document will provide Masters and watchkeeping crew of vessels transiting Canadian ice-covered waters with the necessary understanding of the regulations, shipping support services, hazards and navigation techniques in ice. Chapter 1, Icebreaking and Shipping Support Services, pertains to operational considerations, such as communications and reporting requirements as well as ice advisories and icebreaker support within Canadian waters. -

Marine Navigation Alert Jeppesen MARINE NAVIGATION ALERTS contain significant information affecting Jeppesen Charts and/or Technology. They are regularly updated at www.jeppesen.com/marinealerts/ Date: October 10 , 2012 Subject: Removal of Canadian charts from C-MAP by Jeppesen products (see Table 1 for a detailed list of charts removed) Affected Products: C-MAP NT, C-MAP NT+, C-MAP (iOS) , C-MAP MAX, C-MAP MAX Pro, C-MAP 4D , C-MAP 4D EMBEDDED, C-MAP MAX EMBEDDED, C-MAP WORLDFOLIO (Passport Charts), C-MAP by Jeppesen MM3D (see Table 2 at the end of this document for a detailed list of affected products) Jeppesen would like to inform its customers operating in Canadian waters that per contractual requirements with the Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS), Jeppesen has removed select charts from its products which were derived from official CHS paper charts. The Canadian Hydrographic Service (CHS) considers these charts inadequate for conversion to digital format, and for use in digital navigation systems (including GPS Chart Plotters). To minimize the impact of this change, areas where charts were removed have been covered with smaller scale charts, whenever possible. As a consequence of removing these charts, Jeppesen has discontinued a number of cartridge codes (see the list of affected cartridges below). HaNNAH,1,2 FRÉDÉRIC DUPONT3 and MICHAEL DUNPHY1 (Received 17 September 2007; accepted in revised form 14 April 2008) ABSTRACT. A tidal model of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago was used to map the strength of the tidal currents, tidal mixing (h/U3), and the vertical excursion associated with the tidal currents that drive water upslope and downslope. The hot spots in these quantities correspond to the location of many of the small polynyas in the archipelago, supporting the idea that the tidal currents make an important contribution to the dynamics of many of these recurring polynyas. The potential link with tidal mixing means that these locations may have enhanced plankton production in the summer.
