The Government of India has announced the list of winners of the National Sports Awards 2020, as per the recommendation of the Selection Committee headed by Justice (Retd.) Mukundakam Sharma (former Judge of Supreme Court of India). They will receive the award on National Sports Day on August 29. This is for the first time that 5 players have been selected for this award. National Sports Awards 2020 – Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Winner: The Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, officially known as Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award in Sports and Games, is the highest sporting honour of the Republic of India. Instituted in 1991–1992, this award is being conferred for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four years. It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. The award comprises a medallion, a certificate, and a cash prize of ₹7.5 lakh. The first recipient of the award was Chess Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand, who was honoured for the performance in the year 1991–92. This award is being conferred for consistent outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over a period of four years. Since the year 2001, the award is given only in disciplines falling under the following categories: Olympic Games / Asian Games / Commonwealth Games / World Cup / World Championship Disciplines and Cricket Indigenous Games Sports for the Physically Challenged 27 sportsperson have been selected for the ARJUNA AWARD 2020. The award is named after Drona, often referred as “Dronacharya” or “Guru Drona”, a character from the Sanskrit epic Mahabharata of ancient India. The award is named after Dhyan Chand (1905–79), an Indian field hockey player who scored more than 1000 goals during a career which spanned over 20 years from 1926 to 1948. It is awarded annually by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. As of 2019, the award comprises a statuette, a certificate, ceremonial dress, and a cash prize of ₹5 lakh. Parakram Diwas means Courage Day. Netaji was born on January 23, 1897. The Central Government and the Bengal Government are to begin the yearlong celebrations of 125th birth anniversary year on January 23, 2021. Contents Netaji started a newspaper called “Swaraj”. He had written a book called “The Indian Struggle”. The term “Jai Hind” was coined by Netajji Subhash Chandra Bose.
