This venture uses adaptation theory as well as postmodernist and postcolonial theories to examine how women and men are represented in the adaptations as well as how contemporary audience expectations help to create the identity of the characters in the films.

    Current Affairs 2013- January International The Fourth Meeting of ASEAN and India Tourism Minister was held in Vientiane, Lao PDR on 21 January, in conjunction with the ASEAN Tourism Forum 2013. The Meeting was jointly co-chaired by Union Tourism Minister K.Chiranjeevi and Prof. Dr. Bosengkham Vongdara, Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Lao PDR. Both the Ministers signed the Protocol to amend the Memorandum of Understanding between ASEAN and India on Strengthening Tourism Cooperation, which would further strengthen the tourism collaboration between ASEAN and Indian national tourism organisations. The main objective of this Protocol is to amend the MoU to protect and safeguard the rights and interests of the parties with respect to national security, national and public interest or public order, protection of intellectual property rights, confidentiality and secrecy of documents, information and data. Both the Ministers welcomed the adoption of the Vision Statement of the ASEAN-India Commemorative Summit held on 20 December 2012 in New Delhi, India, particularly on enhancing the ASEAN Connectivity through supporting the implementation of the Master Plan on ASEAN Connectivity. The Ministers also supported the close collaboration of ASEAN and India to enhance air, sea and land connectivity within ASEAN and between ASEAN and India through ASEAN-India connectivity project. In further promoting tourism exchange between ASEAN and India, the Ministers agreed to launch the ASEAN-India tourism website (www.indiaasean.org) as a platform to jointly promote tourism destinations, sharing basic information about ASEAN Member States and India and a visitor guide. College for Women, by Vishal Bhardwaj. It starred Ajay Devgan, Saif Ali Khan, Vivek Oberoi and Kareena Kapoor in the Narnaul M/Garh, Haryana, lead roles, supported by Naseeruddin Shah, Konkona Sen Sharma and Bipasha Basu. The director Vishal India Bhardwaj himself composed the entire music for the film, including the background score, with lyrics by Gulzar. The film is set in Meerut, a town in Western Uttar Pradesh. Keywords: Omkara, drama film, Shakespeare’s Othello Introduction The film was showcased in the Marché du Film section at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival along with a book on the making of Omkara. H Ph. D Research Scholar in English T. K. M College of Arts and Science,University of Kerala Karikode, Kollam Abstract Popular Indian film industry has been dominated by men in all its fields. Even though women are involved in all roles including as film producers, film critics, actresses, directors etc., generally, they have been underrepresented and used for the purpose of generating erotic pleasure. This underrepresentation mainly happens in films which are directed by men. Recently, the number of women film makers has been increasing. Majority of films which are directed by women represent women true to their self, projects their problems and works for their betterment. Thus, by analysing certain Indian popular films, the present research paper projects the main notions that such movies try to present and how far those movies are different from those movies which are produced and directed by men. Keywords: Representation, Women, Popular Movies. Introduction In the past, female representations were underrepresented and subjected to the concept of male gaze. Even though there are ‘super woman’ characters in popular films, women are still sexualised. The film sector visages a constant difficulty to trace a sufficient aspect to balance both the sexualisation and betterment of sturdy women. Although representations of women characters have been improved in recent years, the rapid change in attitude happened in the popular Indian industry with the arrival of women directors and script writers.
