Expanded Spell List Sample file Otherworldly Patron: Kermikk the Slaad It’s time to be a warlock! It’s time to show your might! It’s time to meet your patron at the Slaadi Show tonight! - Sung by a croaking voice in the vastness of Limbo Kermikk is not the most typical gray slaad, if any slaadi can be called typical. Kermikk has broken from the service of his death slaad masters. He has absorbed strange powers from frequent trips between Limbo and the Material Plane that have also affected his mind. Kermikk, for unknown reasons, is now fascinated with show business. While not really attempting to understand the particulars of theatrical production, this slaad counters it with unmatched enthusiasm and absolutely no interest in the consequences of his actions. It’s Time To Get Things Started Like any slaadi, Kermikk is a chaotic individual and that is easily seen in his selection of warlocks. In his eyes, they are the cast of his great variety performance known as the Slaadi Show. What kinds of personalities catch the eye of this planar patron? It may be a half-orc with a fabulous singing voice and a flair for the dramatic. It could be a halfling with splendid dancing skills and subpar comedic timing. It could be a tiefling who performs bizarre feats of daring, such as juggling stirges while reciting a dissertation on the mating habits of merrow. There seems to be no limit to the possibilities. The one uniting factor is that these warlocks found a way to make Kermikk cheer with excitement while flailing his arms about. Warlocks of his patronage claim to hear a distant “Yaaaaaaaay '' come from nowhere when their spells are successful. Expanded Spell List Kermikk the Slaad lets you choose from an expanded spell list when you learn a warlock Samplespell at 1st level. The following spells are added to your warlock sp ell listfile. Kermikk the Slaad Expanded Spells Spell Level Spells 1st jump, Tasha’s hideous laughter 2nd Melf’s acid arrow , protection from poison 3rd stinking cloud , water walk 4th polymorph , watery sphere 5th mislead , insect plague It’s Not Easy Seeing Green Starting at 1st level, Kermikk bestows the ability to find talent that may be hiding out of stage fright. It’s also possible they’re hidden due to a desire to harm you. As a bonus action, your eyes glow green and you are able to see all invisible creatures and objects within a 60 foot range. This ability lasts for a minute, after which you cannot use it again until you have completed a short or long rest. Splatler and Talldorf At 6th level, you can summon extraplanar entities to torment your foes. As an action you call forth two creatures that resemble weird old men. They proceed to mercilessly heckle up to three creatures within 60 feet of you, casting vicious mockery at an increased damage level. The targets must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or take 2d4 psychic damage and have disadvantage on the next attack roll they make before the end of their next turn. After this the entities vanish while laughing at their own insults. Once used, this feature cannot be used again until you have completed a short or long rest. Movin’ Right Along At 10th level, Kermikk’s determination empowers you further. You gain resistance to Samplepsychic damage. You also gain the ability to cast freedom of movem ent file without expending a spell slot. You cannot use this feature again until you have completed a long rest. The Prismatic Connection At 14th level, are able to give your foes a taste of the Slaadi Show. You can use an action to create an image of Kermikk the Slaad himself. This version of your patron appears, sitting atop a nightmarish lilypad. He holds a strange instrument resembling a lute. With a pluck of the strings the summoned Kermikk casts prismatic spray without expending a spell slot. You cannot use this feature again until you have completed a long rest. *This is a parody of a certain amphibious pop culture icon, just in case you missed that. • Eladrin Subrace: Ability Score Increase
limited use of the misty step spell. Since misty step is a 2nd-level spell, this ability is potent enough that the subrace doesn’t need additional traits. This leaves us with the following features for the eladrin subrace: Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1. Elf Weapon Training. You have proficiency with the longsword, shortsword, shortbow, and longbow. Fey Step. You can cast the misty step spell once using this trait. You regain the ability to do so when you finish a short or long rest. Creating a New Race When creating a race from scratch, begin with the story and proceed from there. Compare your creation to the other races of your world, and borrow freely from the traits of other races. As an example, consider the aasimar, a race similar to the tiefling but with a celestial heritage. Example Race: Aasimar Whereas tieflings have fiendish blood in their veins, aasimar are the descendants of celestial beings. These folk generally appear as glorious humans with lustrous hair, flawless skin, and piercing eyes. Aasimar often attempt to pass as humans in order to right wrongs and defend goodness on the Material Plane without drawing undue attention to their celestial heritage. They strive to fit into society, although they usually rise to the top, becoming revered leaders and honorable heroes. You might decide to use the aasimar as a counterpoint to the tiefling race. The two races could even be at odds, reflecting some greater conflict between the forces of good and evil in your campaign. Here are our basic goals for the aasimar: • Aasimar should make effective clerics and paladins.
