When the time came to look for property, there was a vacant lot on Holly and Cedar. The committee made contact with the land owner, who informed them that her grandfather would be very proud to know that a “Jewish Synagogue” would be built on his property. EDOS has since served continuously as a hallmark of for our Community. Our Shul is noted for its daily Minyanim, Shiurim, including its long running Daf Yomi program. Our Shul is instrumental in the creation and continuance of the Eruv, Bikur Cholim, Chevra Kadisha, Rose Hill Cemetery, all three Day Schools, and other important organizations. Our tradition has much to say in favor of those who dedicate themselves towards the betterment of others. For example, the book of Daniel, when - וּמַצ ִ ְדּ ֵ יקי הָר ִ ַבּים כּכּוֹכ ִ ָבים ְ לעוֹלָם וָעֶד ,discussing the end of days, comments and they that turn the many to righteousness as the stars forever and כל המזכה את הרבים אין חטא states פרקי אבות ever. Similarly, the Mishna in Anyone who brings merit to the many, sin does not result - בא על ידו from him. These are examples of the beneits afforded to the individuals who devote their time to public service.

בבא מציעא דף פה‘) While this is a very high level to achieve, the Talmud tells us that there is a higher level of the person who teaches (עמוד א Torah to others. This person not only acquires the right to sit in the heavenly study hall, but they also have the ability to reverse negative decrees. Tonight, we gather to honor those who have earned the title of communal teachers of Torah. While we have a deep appreciation to all of those who dedicate their time and efforts to the community, it is appro- priate that we focus on those who provide the highest service to to our community - those who share with us their Torah knowledge.

For the past 55 years, EDOS has distinguished itself as a Shul that emphasizes the primary importance of consistent, well attended Minyanim and regular Torah learning. Without the dedication of tonight’s honorees, this would not be possible.

Therefore, on behalf of the EDOS community, I would like to thank the honorees and bless them with years of good health to continue to serve .כלל ישראל our community and the entire DearMe Friends: age from the Presiden

For the past 55 years, EDOS has played a leading role on the center stage of Jewish life in Denver. From its humble beginning in 1962, with only 13 members, EDOS has grown to be the premier centrist orthodox Synagogue on the East Side of Denver. For all these years, our Shul has continued to provide uninterrupted and well attended daily, Shabbos, and Yom Tov Minyanim. Our daily Shuirim, Daf Yomi class, the annual Summer Kollel, Shabbatonim, Scholar in Residence weekends, and other programs, are a continued source of pride to our members. Our Shul has also promoted and encouraged the mem- bers to be involved in Chesed and Community work.

The theme of this year’s dinner is, the learning, teaching, and dissem- inating of Torah. For many years now, EDOS has been more than just a Shul. Through our many daily and weekly Shiurim, guest speakers, Scholars in Residence, Summer Kollel, etc, we have become a beacon of light and a bastion of spreading Torah to the Denver community. This task was, and continues to be, accomplished through the efforts, dedication, and commitment of many volunteer Torah Scholars, from within and outside our community. The Shul would like to take this opportunity to recognize and thank all those who have given their time and effort to help us spread Torah to the Denver community.

Under the rabbinic leadership of Rabbi Rapp, our Shul continues to be recognized nationally as a bastion of Torah, Teillah and Chesed. Let us pray and hope that we continue to lead the way and provide a steadfast message of “Torah Im Derech Eretz” for many years to come.

Mazal Tov to all the Honorees Me age from the Board of Directors Mazal Tov to EDOS on its 55 years. During these 55 years, EDOS has been a beacon of Torah, Teillah (praying), Limud (learning), and Chesed (acts of kindness), instilling valuable lessons to the generations that have passed through these doors. This year we are honoring our Eitzei Torah, those who are actively involved in conducting our Shiurim in deep- ening our knowledge of Torah. If there is something we aren’t providing, and you would like to see it at EDOS, please approach us. There would be nothing more that we would like to do then to increase Torah Learning at EDOS.

Tonight, we are celebrating and recognizing EDOS’ 55 years of community leadership. Over the last 55 years, the mem- bers of EDOS have toiled in building a Shul. Ultimately, through their hard work the Shul has become a cornerstone of the community, allowing EDOS today to continue down the path of building & supporting Torah, Teillah, and Tzedakah throughout the entire Denver.

Thank you to our dear friend and Executive Director, Rabbi Akiva Stern. We know how hard you work for our beneit all year long.

Thank you to our tireless leader, our President, for your compassion and commitment to the Shul. You’re appreciated more than you know.

Thank you to all the Shul committees. EDOS would not function without you.

And thank you to the Dinner/Journal Co-chairs and committee for making this an outstanding evening.

It’s an ideal that we don’t take lightly, and it is certainly something that we are proud to provide to our members and the greater community. It is our hope that not only is this something that will continue to expand at rapid growth, but moreover be an impacting force that will continue to inspire and touch all our members and friends throughout the community for many years to come. It’s for this reason why we launch tonight a Siyum of Tanach. Our goal is to make a Siyum by Shavuos time. Our hope is that the entire community from Men, Women, Children will participate in learning together with a celebration of unity taking place at the Chag of celebrating Torah that of Shavuos. We are truly blessed to be able to be amongst friends and family who together make up the best community in the world, and, furthermore, be part of an institution that has impacted so many individuals in so many positive ways. While theEntertainment: world of has become saturated withYehuda “Shlomo Style” performances Gr and performers, n none have captured the hearts and souls of audiences around the world with the soft-spoken success of Yehuda Green. Born to a prominent Chassidic family in , Yehuda received his irst exposure to the music of Reb Shlomo Carlebach at the age of ive. Despite his tender age (or perhaps because of it), Yehuda immediately connected with Shlomo’s sincere --almost spiritual, soulfulness on a truly “organic” level. Rather than imitate it, his youth- ful innocence and exuberance enabled him to “absorb” its essence into his “musical DNA” and ultimately into his signature performance style.

It wasn’t until almost two decades later in New Hill England, when Yehuda had the privilege to share the stage with his “Rebbe” (to this day Yehuda describes himself as a Talmid (student) of the saintly Rav Shlomo”, rather than just a singer of his songs). Those fortunate enough to have been in the audience that evening describe an event that transcended any concert they’ve been to before or since. Clearly Shlomo sensed in Yehuda a “”kindred spirit” --someone who shared his “voice” and deep regard for the power of the “Niggun”(song). That night evolved into a relationship that became the musical equivalent of “the passing of the torch”. Despite his perpetually busy performance schedule, Shlomo made it a point to join Yehuda at least three times a year in Israel for standing room only performances that became “the hottest ticket in town”--regardless of who else happened to be in town.

Those now legendary performances led to an inevitable invitation to the famed Carlebach Shul on ’s upper West Side, where Yehuda’s honest, earthy style immediately set him apart from the countless singers who incorporate interpretations of Shlomo into their performances. Perhaps the greatest compliment of all came about 10 years ago when Yehuda was chosen to lead services during the “Yomim Noraim”. Like the legend who inspires him both personally and professionally, Yehuda’s fan base is a “living lesson” in Jewish demography. The audiences at his sold-out concerts are comprised of people from Williamsburg to Westchester. Attend a Yehuda Green concert and odds are that you’ll ind yourself sitting between a traditionally dressed resident of Skver on one side, a clearly Mizrachi type from Teaneck, NJ on the other and a “Uman yarmulkeh” clad Lower East Side hipster behind you.

Like Shlomo, the honesty of Yehuda’s music unites our people as only our almost universal love of song can. Re- gardless if it’s an intimate Kumsitz or a sold-out concert, Yehuda’s style evokes an emotionally response that few if any performers can match or, as he describes it--with a level of modesty that invariably brings his “mentor” to mind; “Music is about honesty--not affectation...since childhood my music and singing just naturally went in Shlomo’s direction...it’s that “Emes” that connects with audiences and Baruch Hashem lets them respond on a much deeper level.” People often say that Yehuda Green is “more Carlebach than Carlebach”. While we can’t attest to the validity of that obvious paradox, we can say that the feeling and message that Shlomo Carlebach put into his music has carried through to Yehuda Green. We are beyond thrilled to have Yehuda Green with us. Thank you to all the individuals without whom this journal wouldn’t be a reality. We are forever grateful to you. The journal is only as amazing as the ones who put it together. We thank you for your dedication and support

Vayikra 19:32 “Rise up before the one who studies Torah”. From this translation comes the tradition of honoring those who teach and know G-d’s Law. We are able to fulill this commandment today, either in its literal form, to rise up before the gray headed and honor the aged, or its traditional form, to honor those who teach Torah.
