The energy demand in Indonesia increases due to a significant growth in population, this fact has diminished the fossil fuel storage as our main non renewable energy source. Recently, there are a lot of researches on renewable energy; one of the most prominent is the development of bioethanol as a result of fermentation of sugar or starch containing materials. Palm sugar as one of the natural sugar sources can be obtained from most of palm trees such as coconut, aren, nipah, and siwalan. This paper explored the potential of Siwalan palm sugar development to be converted into bioethanol as renewable energy source through fermentation and purification processes. Siwalan palm sugar contains 8.658 ml ethanol out of 100 ml palm sugar liquid processed using fermentation and distillation. Bioethanol can further utilized as fuel when it is mixed with gasoline that called gasohol. In the future, it is expected that gasohol can replace gasoline consumption as an alternative energy that can be competitive in term of price in Indonesia. -

To be embargoed till 25 February 2012, 10am MEDIA FACTSHEET Park Connector Network Implemented by the National Parks Board (NParks), the Park Connector Network is an island-wide network of linear open spaces around major residential areas, linking up parks and nature sites in Singapore. It brings people closer to green spaces, enhancing recreational opportunities for all, and is an important part of our plans to transform Singapore into a ‘City in a Garden’. NParks has completed 200km of park connectors around the island, providing users with a network of green corridors and a wider choice of landscapes and distances for recreation. The North Eastern Riverine Loop is the fourth loop of park connectors developed by NParks after the Northern Explorer Loop (2010), Eastern Coastal Loop (2007) and Western Adventure Loop (2009). Over the next five years, the NParks plans to build another 100 km of park connectors. Three more loops of park connectors are in the pipeline. North Eastern Riverine Loop The 26km North Eastern Riverine Loop is situated in the Northeastern region of Singapore, which follows the natural coastline of Punggol Beach and the river banks of Sungei Punggol and Sungei Serangoon on the West and East side respectively. It encompasses Buangkok, Punggol, Hougang and Sengkang Towns. The loop consists of Punggol Park Connector (6.1km), Punggol Promenade (4.9km), Serangoon Park Connector (2.3km), Sungei Serangoon Park Connector (2.1km), Buangkok Park Connector (1.5km) and Punggol Waterway (8.4km – both ways). These park connectors serve to link four parks: Punggol Park, Punggol Waterway Park (along Punggol Waterway), Punggol Point Park (at Punggol Promenade) and Sengkang Riverside Park. -

These are producing from palm trees various parts they are wood based, leaf based fiber based, coir based, etc. The aim of this study is to protect the Palmyra tree and make awareness about Palmyra palm products. The edible and non-edible products of Palmyra palm were analyzed. The edible products are good for health and providing various medicinal and nutritional benefits to the humans. The non-edible products are useful to humans like mat, bags, manuscripts, fiber brushes, baskets, etc. These products are easily available in village area, but these are very important for human life growth. The central and state Government supports are needed for to grow these products. Proper training and awareness program among producers will increase the development of Palmyra palm products and manufacturing industries. Asian Palmyra palm, the source of palm-sugar, is dioecious with a long juvenile period requiring at least 12 years to reach its maturity. To date, there is no reliable molecular marker for identifying sexes before the first bloom, limiting crop designs and utilization. We aimed to identify sex-linked markers for this palm using PCR-based DNA fingerprinting, suppression subtractive hybridization (SSH) and transcriptome sequencing. Methods. DNA fingerprints were generated between males and females based on RAPD, AFLP, SCoT, modified SCoT, ILP, and SSR techniques. Large-scale cloning and screening of SSH libraries and de novo transcriptome sequencing of male and female cDNA from inflorescences were performed to identify sex-specific genes for developing sex-linked markers. Results.
