2011‐12 TEAM NOTES

‘TIS THE (NBA) SEASON The Memphis Grizzlies are giving the gift of ‘grit’ and ‘grind’ this holiday season, tipping off their 11th season in Memphis with two rematches with their opponents from their historic run in the 2011 NBA Playoffs… Memphis fell in its season opener on Dec. 26 with San Antonio, 95‐82 on the road, after ejecting the Spurs from the first round of the 2011 Playoffs… Now, the Grizzlies get the same chance at revenge against the , who defeated Memphis last season in a seven‐game conference semifinal series this past May.

SEASON OPENING BLUES Memphis fell in its season opener on Dec. 26 at San Antonio, 95‐82… The Grizzlies have lost all 11 of their season openers since relocating to Memphis and are 2‐15 overall on opening night, last winning the first game of a season in 2000‐01 (Oct. 31, 2000 vs. Seattle)… The loss to the Spurs marked just the second time the Grizzlies have opened on the road since moving to Memphis.

BACK TO THE GRIND The Grizzlies will be looking to renew the excitement of last season’s run through the NBA Playoffs, in which the franchise earned its first seven postseason victories and galvanized the city of Memphis in the midst of devastating floods throughout the Mid‐South region… The Grizzlies went 7‐6 in the playoffs overall, including a 5‐1 home record in front of six sell‐out crowds at FedExForum, knocking out the top‐seeded San Antonio Spurs in the first round and taking the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games in the conference semifinals.

Z‐BO READY TO GO After an extensive offseason training regimen, Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph is ready to build off a 2010‐11 campaign that saw him earn All‐NBA Third Team honors (a career first and franchise first) after averaging 20.1 points and a franchise‐record 12.2 rebounds during the regular season… Randolph also won the January 2011 Western Conference Player of the Month as well as his first three career Player of the Week Awards in 2010‐11… Z‐Bo stepped it up even more during the 2011 NBA Playoffs, posting 22.2 points and 10.8 boards and helping Memphis earn the first seven postseason victories in franchise history… The 11‐year veteran has averaged at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in each of the past three seasons, something no other player in the NBA has done over that span.

THE CORE The Grizzlies are committed to keeping the core of their most successful roster ever, with Zach Randolph, Rudy Gay, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley all having signed long‐term contracts to remain in Memphis and continuing to improve their numbers.
