RELAYS IN REBELLION: THE POWER IN LILIAN NGOYI AND FANNIE LOU HAMER by CATHY L. FREEMAN Under the Direction of Michelle Brattain ABSTRACT This thesis compares how Lilian Ngoyi of South Africa and Fannie Lou Hamer of the United States crafted political identities and assumed powerful leadership, respectively, in struggles against racial oppression via the African National Congress and the Student Non-Violent Coordinating Committee. The study asserts that Ngoyi and Hamer used alternative sources of personal power which arose from their location in the intersecting social categories of culture, gender and class. These categories challenge traditional disciplinary boundaries and complicate any analysis of political economy, state power relations and black liberation studies which minimize the contributions of women. Also, by analyzing resistance leadership squarely within both African and North American contexts, this thesis answers the call of scholar Patrick Manning for a “homeland and diaspora” model which positions Africa itself within the historiography of transnational academic debates. -

Stomp And Shout Kids Curriculum development and creative output for an original music and creative play program for kids ages 8 months – 4 years. Our mission is to innovate inspiring and challenging ways to bring music, art, and imagination to kids and their families. Our programming encourages creative thinkers. Laying the ground work for high self esteem, strong team work, problem solving, and big beautiful imaginations. The Studio at Stomp and Shout programs thought provoking (fun!) music, theatre, & improv classes for grades K - 5. Our classes provide instruction in the fundamentals of the performing arts while offering our students opportunities to explore the world they live in through the lens of these imaginative mediums. He was among the first to use reaction times for analyzing hemispheric specializations and interactions in intact and split brain humans. His latest research interests include visual spatial attention and the representation of the body in the brain. My deepest roots lie in the ancient Lombard city of Pavia, where I was born 78 years ago, on May 25, 1935, and in that part of the province of Pavia that lies to the south of the Po River and is called the Oltrepò Pavese. The hilly part of the Oltrepò is covered with beautiful vineyards that according to archaeological and historical evidence have been used to produce good wines for millennia. -

I believe that effective pedagogical theory and structure aligns with that of improvisational theatre models and by examining these models more closely and by comparing them with the theories of predominant educational theorists and psychologists, we will find both commonalities and effective teaching models and strategies. The theory and practice of Viola Spolin and Augusto Boal, supported by the theory of Lev Vygotsky and of Paulo Freire, respectively, provide two examples of non - traditional pedagogy for the secondary classroom.
